Today, June 27, 2025, was my first and last time visiting the store known Plato's Closet. Upon entering the store, I was quickly reminded of a Salvation Army vibe. Going forward, I'll give my brand new (tagged) or gently worn to a homeless shelter, which is what I should've done in the first place. The website is vague on the process of selling items so naturally when I walked into the store, I had a few questions. The associate who assisted me wasn't helpful or friendly. I dropped off a brand new pair of running Nikes along with the receipt in the box as well as a pair of never worn new Cole Haan leather loafers, and a pair of new shorts that I purchased from Old Navy... all three items had tags on them. I was handed a receipt and told to come back when I received a text message from the store with NO EXPLANATION of how items were determined in selling price. At this point in the transaction, I became frustrated and turned around and left the store. About 45 minutes later I received a text message to return to the store. I was told that my three items were worth $12 and that the Cole Haan shoes will not be accepted because they are not a current trend. WHAT?! Leather loafers aren't on trend? Anyone looking to sell their new or gently used items would fair better selling them on Poshmark. You live and you learn. read more

I was told by an employee that due to their rule of not accepting plastic bags they couldn't take my clothes.I returned the clothes in reusable bags only to see a customer come into the store with two plastic grocery bags and one reusable bag and their clothes were accepted.i got 10$ for 4 items which isn't bad but the policy made my first time experience confusing. read more

Honestly they never seem to buy new clothes. The racks are filled with outdated items yet turn away new with tags that are from 2024

First of all nothing online says anything about the bag rules, I was there a couple months ago and they took my stuff in the bag I had, this time I had two full bags of clothes (same bags) and they turned it away. I had a few bags of Lulu items and they turned them all away saying they were outdated, but accepted the stretched out crop top from pink. They only took 4 things from my bag that I brought in, most of which was old pink. I got 15 dollars for everything they took and explained that they're just "being picky" now. It doesn't matter how old Lulu is unless it's damaged it always sells. it's absurd. Workers have no idea what they're doing when picking what clothes are popular or sell the best. read more

Not worth the time and energy. Just dropped off two baskets of guys clothes size small and medium. Most from PacSun, American Eagle and Nike. They took 11 items and for $34. Go somewhere else. The employee are not friendly or up to date on fashion. The store has a very strong odor of food from the ethnic grocery store next door. This used to be a great place to buy and sell now it's just not worth it. It's has obviously been bought by someone who doesn't know what they are doing. I do not recommend! Very very disappointed. The one employee is the absolute worst. I have no idea what her name is but she's rude and not helpful in the slightest. She's of Indian descent and is very judgy and if I see her in there when I go want to shop I just turn around. Worst part is I think she's a manager. She works weekdays during the day shift, hope this helps someone else avoid her. read more

I used to love this store but it has gone so downhill. The shelves are lined with cheap wholesale items and the quality of the clothes are terrible and outdated. I just went for the first time in months and it is so disorganized, cluttered, and hard to maneuver around. read more

I'd honestly give it a 0 if i could. I'm not sure if there's new management or what but this place is horrible. I went in with 2 baskets of clothes to sell. I had shoes bags jewelry everything. I waited an hour and a half for my items to be complete, which was fine. The part that wasn't fine was when I went to my car I realized the shoes i was trying to sell were no longer in my basket nor did they buy them. I began looking through my baskets and realized that I had items that weren't even mine to begin with in my basket. Also all my clothes were thrown back into the basket when I brought them folded and organized. When I went back in to complain all my missing items were in a "bought" basket with someone else's name on it. 45$ worth of items they were going to buy, which were mine with another persons name on it. I feel lucky that I came back in before this other person got paid for my items. Very unorganized and messy. I've never seen this location messier than it was today. It may have been an honest mistake, but the employees seemed very confused and seemed like they took on more than they could handle and were trying to just get it done quickly instead of correctly. Says it opens at 9 so i came at 9:30. When i got there i realized it was closed and it said on the door it opened at 10:00 so i just sat in the parking lot until they open. The manager got there at 10:00 on the dot. walked in locked the door and didn't turn on a single light while looking at me the whole time. I figured it would take a couple minutes to open but now it's 10:30 and still no open. i've been here for an hour and still not a single light on. Ridiculous. Whoever is working right now is awful. You open at 10:00 and you don't even show up until 10:00 and by 10:30 still not open???? Now i look online and it magically changed to 12pm after looking an hour ago abs it saying 9. disgusted. read more

new workers suck. pretty sure i seen them selling contact lenses in there. how tf does that even work. i tried selling them a basket of clothes and one of the shirts had the tag still on it saying it was $80. they tried to buy it for $1.80. lmao. they put a sign on the front door saying they aren't accepting clothes when you've already dragged your basket all the way up there just bc they wanna sit behind the counter and chat with their friends. never open on time, never have the dressing room opens, and honestly smells in there. super slow up front i suggest you have someone stand in line fine you while you finish shopping easily takes them 10 minutes for one check out. brought in a basket full of new things and they didn't take any of it but i always see the most beat down ragged linty stuff on the hangers. not like you can really look thru anything when they have it completely shoved and stuffed on a rack. did i mention it smells read more

This place deserves ZERO stars if I could. Poor customer service from the chick who "went through" my stuff, she didn't even say hi or hello just straight to business "have you sold here before?". I highly doubt she sifted through my items because she would've seen that the "styles were within a year" that they were "looking for". I came in with a whole box of clothes and shoes and in the end they only bought 4 shoes for $5. A complete ripoff and waste of my time. 75% off items already in the clearance section? Oh yes! I got three outfits for my kid sister and three for me for $16.50. The store has a slight "consignment" smell, but it was decently clean inside with good lighting and plenty of fitting rooms. The cashiers were unsmiling and terse, but rude in an identifiable way. I went there with a 4 huge of designer clothes and left the store for 10 minutes they apparently had gone them (which was a lie) and only took 5 items. This is the worst Plato's closet ever. I have brought in NUMEROUS bags of clothes from THIS YEAR with the tags still on and some were hardly worn. The last time I went, I had some doubts but was hopeful that I could make some extra cash. They took THREE items out of about 20, for a grand total of $3. I am never going here again. I've had better luck selling clothes on Facebook. All of the employees have a stick up their ass too. read more

Took over 70 tee shirts there 19 jeans 6 hoodies 3 sweatpants sweaters and more Over 150 pcs all New or worn just a few times. So all name brand A&F , AERO, EXPRESS, AMERICA. EAGLE, NAUTICAL, ALL LADY COLLEGE , High School age clothing. They gave me all items back said they were over a year old they couldn't use anything. Second time I took them Good or Gently used Clothing for Nothing. Waist of time better off taking to Flea Market selling for $1 & $2 to people that will appreciate it. Monroeville Crew and Staff are UnProffessional and not People oriented. Saw several other people bring in baskets of clothes and they took 1 up to 4 items during the 75 min. I spent in the store. Pass on this disaster. Rude, snotty shop-girls that know nothing about clothing. The store has all off-brand items, dirty, soiled, the latest bargain-bin junk. Baseball caps that looked well worn, shoes with mud on them, seriously...,get it together & hire professional, trained mature gals. The two working on Sunday were condescending & uninformed as they cast out snide remarks in their Rue21 outfits & Claire's junk jewelry. I brought in all Guess, Eli Tahari, Fendi, D&G, you get the picture, and one of tweens indicated it was "not in style", as if her Express outfit represented high fashion....please. I left that disaster & proceeded to Clothes Minded in Bloomfield, on Liberty. The guy working raved over the items & gave me $194 for my goods & asked if I had more. Take you clothes & your business there, it's worth the trip to deal with someone who actually has bought clothing & knows & appreciates style. P.S./Btw, included in those items were also near new clothes from BR (that's Banana Republic for the tween shop girls info) & A&F, which the one girl stated " the detailing on those items indicated they were not this season. Added note: I can see from other reviews from their past location many people rated this business a "1" & almost mirrored my comments exactly regarding the employees rude attitude & lack of knowledge. read more

plato is a good source for used clothing and shoes for men. i like the fact they carry sizes like men's 14 in shoes. hard to find big sizes, but here you'll find! read more

I am 28 years old, got a promotion with my job, so I had to get some business casual clothing, which is basically button ups, any pants that aren't jeans, I go in there and ask "is there a section for just business casual or are they just mixed in with everything?" The girl says "this store is for high school and college kids, we don't sell business clothes" meanwhile I found 10 items in 10 minutes that are business casual clothes. I wasn't asking for a woman's pant suit! Geez! I'm 28, not 80 years old! Snobby little girls working here.. they should put a sign on the window "21 and under" didn't know there was an age limit to shop here! Completely rude. read more

This Plato's Closet is indeed bigger than any other Plato's Closet around. However, the management there is ridiculous. The owners of the store are white and wealthy, and they create a workplace full of discrimination to say the very least. I am a former employee of Plato's Closet, and I was the only gay person who worked there. I was fired for things that my straight coworkers had also done many times previously. I did not receive any warnings, or prior write-ups, before I was fired. They talked to me only once: the conversation in which they fired me. It took me by complete surprise, especially because a former employee had written a letter when she quit stating that the management there hates gay people. I didn't believe it at first because I was friends with almost everyone there, and nobody seemed to have a problem with my sexual orientation. However, I am beginning to think otherwise. Sue, the owner, only ever acknowledged me a select few times- one of which was the time she fired me on the spot. Additionally, I worked with a new employee who was making 50 cents less than every other new employee. What was the difference? She was black. The owner, Sue, had started all of the new employees (one of them being me) at the same rate, except for her. To make things even worse, this employee even had a higher title than those being paid more than her. read more

worst costumer service in the world. employees were so rude did NOT look through more than the top layer of clothes and talked rudely about the clothes in the bin in front of myself and other guests. awful service. won't complain about how many items they took but i feel it could have been more with a different employee going through my clothes. 0 stars will not be returning. read more

Poor customer service. One lady was on a personal cell phone call talking very loud. Four other mature women stood with their arms folded and A young boy (looked to be 15) went through my clothes! All the name brands they were asking for, some had tags still on them. They were from children 10-12 and juniors 0 - Med. .14 pieces had tags, others all laundered and pressed. Shoes were new never worn outside and looked better then the one's on their shelf. (They had Puma worn shoes for $70.00) All my things were refused. No reason on paper was given. When I went to pick up my clothes the loud lady said well they must be to mature or out dated. What is vintage...I'm 69 maybe I should look that up. Really. I questioned her and her answer was "He's on break or I would ask him. " "Do you need help to your car?" Needless to say, I will not be returning there and I will forbid my granddaughters to shop there again.
