A pretty good hiking trail in Whittier. Parking is pretty small and it was full at 7:45 am on Saturday. Was able to get a parking few minutes later and people started rotating out around that time so either come earlier or around 8 am. The hike had a good chunk just walking on the road. Views are okay and overall it's mostly a good spot to get your steps in. Incline is okay but going up is mostly slightly inclined. Tons of electrical wires making static noises so a bit unsatisfying. Overall great spot for exercise plus it's dog friendly! Parking - It's across the street from Ron & Alicia Robinson Florist. You can route there or use the directions from All Trails.

Confusing! There is no actual address for this place. I managed to find the coordinates on AllTrails (34.022573, -118.036294) which takes you to Workman Mill Rd. right across from Rio Hondo College. Once you get on Workman, there is a parking lot next to a flower shop that is meant for hikers and equestrian. I ended up crossing the street and seeing a path that leads up the hill. Once you reach the top you will end up on a paved road. Turn right and proceed until you see signs that says hiking trail. Most of the hike is paved and you will be along side Rose Hills till you reach the peak, which is where the benches and tables are. From where I started and to the top, it was about 2 miles. You are able to go further once you reach the top. I think this connects to the Hellman and Turnbo Trails. I went 2 miles in until I decided to turn back since I did not know where I was going. There were a couple of bikers on trail and a horse as well. On my way down, I forgot which path I took when it splits to the recycling plant and Nike Hill path. I ended up going on two different paths that were both wrong. It was a nice stroll since there were plenty of trees and shade. The paths took me to the recycling and garbage factories. Luckily reception was good so I ended up on a road and turned on Google Maps. I went straight down and ended up in the lot of the garbage factory. There were plenty of signs that said private property but I was tired of wandering around. I tried looking for an exit but the facility was closed. They are located on Workman, so my car was across the street. After looking around and seeing that there was no one there, I decided to hop the 9 foot wall (thank you Spartan Race for prepping me). I walked back to my car and thought to myself, whoever is monitoring those surveillance cameras probably thinks I'm a dumbass... Don't think I will be coming back unless I go with someone who is familiar with this path.

A day after the rain. The view of the snow on the mountains was spectacular!

Hiked this trail regularly while training for the Camino. It did the trick! The last quarter mile of the incline will kick your butt, but once you've cleared it, you're golden. Keep going, follow the arrows, and you'll end up in Hellman. On a clear day ,you'll see views from the mountains to the sea. Not a bad way to spend the day! Reward yourself with some food and beverages in Uptown! You've earned it!

This trail is connected with Rio Hondo College. Same side as the police academy. You can park by the flower shop or if possible on the campus (you may need a permit) during the week. We do the cement part at the beginning then go onto the trail (we have a 5 year old with us) so we find it easier that way. Beginning is over grown but it's nature lol after you get though that part (the dirt trail) which is the actual trail (if you don't do the cement part) by the police academy range. So after you get though the dirt trail part, the rest up hill is cement/dirt 95% of people walk the cement part large enough for a car. I attached a picture to show. Not a lot of shade but we found 3 spots on the way (we stopped at 46 mins up) I feel totally safe (snake wise) on the cement. Look how big it is. The dirt part, I'm a scardy cat.

This was such a great hike and such a great workout. We easily found it thanks to the directions provided by a friend. There are two small lots to park you car and we found a spot rather easily since we went early. All in all the trail was good. Mostly pavement and easy to follow. The incline was a bit grueling but only because I am out of shape. Our behinds was definitely felling it and that last 1/4 was the toughest. Once you get to the top there are benches for you to stretch and rest before you head back down unless you decide to take the other two trails and continue on with your workout. There isn't much shade so make sure to wear sunblock. Best part of the workout was the heading back down because it is all downhill. We did about 4 1/2 miles total. Also remember to take water.

Nice trail. Gps would guide you to mortuary but it's lower down. There's two small dirt parking lots next to FedEx compound. Hike is a nice steady climb. Approx 2miles up a dirt and asphalt trail from the packing.

Skyline/trail to Nike Hill, it does connect to Hacienda, Hellman & Turnbull

I could have given it three stars, but to be honest, it's a weird set up; there's ongoing construction in and around the trail (more like the construction and the electric towers are taking over the trail) which puts a huge damper on the hiking aspect. Once upon a time I would think it was a nice rural nature trail, but times have changed and lots going on there with the towers in place, the dump and the cemetery. I imagine when there is no one working on site, it's probably a nice quiet hike, that has to be done in the early morning before it gets hot. Located behind Rio Hondo Community College Police Academy and extends back to Rose Hills Cemetery, meets up with Turnbull Skyline trail, which connects to all trails - Hellman Park, Hacienda Hills, Turnbull Canyon. A lot of the college students utilize it, I'm sure the PE department does. From a hiker's view point, it can be secluded during the day; again only people you'll see during that time are the construction people and vehicles driving on the asphalt part of it. When you reach the top, your in for a nice surprise as there are a couple picnic tables, I think a Porta potty, water spickett and tub for horses to drink out of. Not very popular or populated, except maybe in the early mornings I can imagine few more people on it. You can tell by the foot and horse tracks. If your willing to try it, strongly advise early morning when it's cooler and probably Saturday or Sunday when there are no employees around staring. You can go up the road to the Police Academy and park before the gate on the side, seen everyone else doing it. It's boring, but definitely a workout and a little bit nature once you get over the top on the way towards Skyline where multiple trails connect. But if your looking for a daily routine, I'd pass on this one and move on to Turnbull if that's the case. Fun Fact: Use to be an old missile sight (Nike Missile). Look it up, it's one of many that were located allover California (San Pedro).

What a great trail in addition it's next to rio hondo college and the police academy. I'm sure this place is used for the fire camp as well. It was a bit difficult to understand since the place doesn't have maps placed around. In total I saw 2 trails I was easily was able to run 3 miles which is not bad for a training trail. A bit of a challenge with the uphill but was able to do it even with my 9 year old nephew.

    What a view

This is a good hike when you make it to the water tower go alittle past it and there are some benches you could sit down an enjoy the view

Right now the cherry blossoms are in full, breathtaking bloom, turning parts of the park into a dreamy pink wonderland. The wildlife is thriving too: squirrels galore that are so bold they'll walk right up to your feet if you sit still and stay calm. On warmer days I've spotted rattlesnakes scurrying across the trails, so I always recommend staying in the middle of the paths as a safety precaution. From the main entrance at Colima Road, you can choose the paved walkway or head straight for the dirt trails depending on your mood. I usually make my way toward the horse stables and equestrian area -- watching the horses get fed or running around their enclosures is one of my favorite parts. Just be mindful of the occasional big mounds of horse droppings on the trails; it's a small price to pay for the beauty. The park is generally very clean, with plenty of trash cans scattered throughout. There are numerous benches, picnic areas, fire pits perfect for groups, a children's playground, and even a seasonal creek with several charming wooden bridges crossing directly over it (though the water is pretty dry now that the rainy season is over). You'll also notice signs posted along the trails warning about bobcats and mountain lions. I've been coming here regularly for six months and haven't heard or seen any myself, but I've seen quite a few hikers carrying pepper spray as a precaution. Just be safe out there. Weekends get busy with families celebrating birthdays and enjoying the outdoors, but it's all part of the lively atmosphere. For dog lovers, there are two fantastic off-leash dog parks right near the front entrance -- one for large dogs and one for medium/small dogs. Outside of those areas, dogs must be on leash per the signs. The hilltop trails offer absolutely stunning panoramic views that make every visit worthwhile. My only heads-up: the park is officially closed on Mondays and Tuesdays (per LA County rules), but a lot of locals park across the street at the nearby mall and walk in through the gates anyway. If you're in the Rowland Heights/Hacienda Heights area and looking for a beautiful regional park with trails, nature, horses, cherry blossoms, and those lovely wooden bridges over the creek, I highly recommend Schabarum. Just bring water, wear good shoes, keep an eye out for those snakes in the summer, and stay aware on the trails! 5/5 -- I'll definitely be back soon.

Park amenities are minimal, but you can find multiple restrooms with water fountains and picnic tables to sit. When I went, there wasn't a big crowd, and the green space is already expansive. When the weather isn't hot, it's calming to take a walk along the paths and grass to visit different areas of the park.
