Last Saturday, I wanted to see my first movie at a theatre since February 2020. I wouldn't classify…read moremyself as a regular movie person, but I do miss the entire experience of seeing a flick on a big screen, slurping back a drink, and stuffing myself with some snack. My original plan was to see No Time to Die, which is the newest 007 movie and the last for Daniel Craig, at Cineplex Eglinton Town Centre. There were two theatres showing matinees at 2:30 pm. It was too good to be true, though. I arrived before 2 pm and these times were gone. The next showtime was 3:20 pm. I did a search on my phone for other theatres with closer start times. This Cineplex in the Beaches had a start time of 2:55 pm. I have never been there before. And so, I picked up and left on a rainy afternoon. I'm glad that I didn't buy a ticket online for Cineplex Eglinton. I went ahead and did it for Cineplex Beaches. I realized that I had a credit to use up. Yay, almost-free movie! The downside to hitting this cinema is that parking is not free. I did find a Green P lot behind this theatre that offered afternoon parking till 6 pm for $3. Perfect! I paid using my Green P app and was done. I walked over to the entrance that faces the Country Style donuts that I first visited on a school trip when I was four years old. I grew up in the Beaches. Where this theatre sits used to be Greenwood Racetrack. Yep, I hadn't been here in eons. I barely remember that racetrack experience, as I was a little kid with my dad. Although the signage says Alliance Cinemas, it is indeed a part of the Cineplex umbrella. I walked in and got a super helpful man who greeted me. I am so out of it as a movie-goer these days. He let me know that I needed to show my ID and proof of vaccination. I got the latter out first. The QR code on my screenshot worked like a charm. I used my driver's licence for the former and all was great. He let me know that I needed to have my movie ticket scanned by the next person. I visited the women's washroom first. My movie had a playing time of 2 hours and 48 minutes. The washroom was exceptionally clean. Everything was nicely stocked and in working order. I was impressed. I hadn't had lunch. I went with my go-to meal at Cineplex, which is the hot dog and nachos combo. I had an efficient man take my order. I got my Scene points barcode scanned and paid with a credit card. He had my order completed quickly, but didn't say that it was ready until I saw it on a ledge closer to him than me. I took everything, thanked him, and headed to get my ticket scanned. My Diet Coke was so full that it spilled out from the top when I pulled out my phone. I got my ticket scanned and then headed around to the same place where I had just grabbed napkins and a straw. I wiped my hand down and proceeded to the theatre. I love this movie theatre. It's quiet. I had an entire row to myself. It's clean. The seats are comfortable. I used another seat next to me to put my purse and hoodie there. It was great eating in a movie theatre again. My hot dog was yummy. I got packets of relish and ketchup. I don't remembered getting so many corn chips to dip into my cheese sauce. I spent half the movie breaking each one in half so I could dip them into the cheese. So good! I haven't grown a third arm yet from the liquid cheese. The movie was excellent. It didn't feel like I was there for three hours. I had a wonderful experience and felt safe. Everyone followed rules for wearing face masks and keeping their distance within the theatre. It was another impressive point. Fact: I have seen every Bond flick with Daniel Craig in it. I used the washroom afterwards because I had downed a lot of my massive drink. The washroom's cleanliness continued to earn top marks. I've never been so happy visiting a theatre before. It's the perfect edition to the west side of the Beaches. I'm okay shelling out for parking for such a positive movie-going experience. I'm a fan. We had planned to watch Fantastic Four during the last show and booked two special-needs seats online. Parking downtown already costs more than the tickets for two, but we were looking forward to a relaxing evening. About twenty minutes into the film, a staff member approached us to explain that one of the "seats" we had booked was not actually a chair at all, but the space reserved for a wheelchair. This crucial detail was never made clear on the booking site. Unlike other accessible venues--such as the TTC or most theatres--that allow guests to choose between using their own wheelchair or a provided seat, this cinema offered no alternative except an awkward mid-show refund. The situation was uncomfortable and completely ruined our night out. Although the management responded publicly on Google in a caring and professional tone, two follow-up emails since then have gone unanswered. I hope Imagine Cinemas takes accessibility concerns seriously and improves both its booking transparency and customer follow-up.

Once you arrive you can purchase ticket in person if available. They ask for your last name to pull up your ticket. Inside they have concession stand serving popcorn etc. you enter the theatre by going through the curtains. The area is large, the seatings were spacious and the place was very clean. The bathrooms were small but clean. They didn't turn off the lights during the movie but I personally didn't mind. I got to the theatre and the ticket scanning was pretty quick and smooth (I ordered my ticket online), and considering there was a line of about 4 people in front of me. I headed toward the washroom and it was pretty clean, there was also a cleaning staff member at here at the time. I headed to the concession counter and there were long lines here. I couldn't see the poutine list on the menu screen on the overhead but it's a VIP theatre so they must have poutine available. After a few minutes of waiting in line, it was my turn to order. I asked if I could order a poutine. The lady at the counter said I have to go around to the vip bar/food section to the left of us. That was kind of annoying, after waiting in this line. So I went to the correct area and ordered. They said it would take about 10 minutes for my order to be ready. It was ready in about 8. That was good. The poutine came in a large flat white takeout box. Typically at the other cineplex's I've been to, the poutine came in a smaller more compact brown takeout box. The one I received today felt very obnoxious when I opened it in the theatre and was eating it while the movie was playing. The lid was just so big and it stuck out. As for how the poutine was, the fires were good with a fair amount of cheese curds. However, the gravy was really thick and there was way too much of it. Because it was a big flat box they only put in a layer of fries so to me it seemed they over did it on the gravy because there was so much space in the box. Mind you, the box wasn't full (it would probably amount to the aforementioned small brown box at other locations). Ultimately, the gravy ruined it because I was getting globs of thick gravy. And it was different to scrap of or avoid it because I was in the dark. To conclude, if you're looking forward to a poutine to eat while at the movies, go to the scotiabank location.

We got cinema 7 this time, it's near the back, and one of the smaller theatres. Likely due to the nature of the movie being more drama, the audience was way less messy than last time. They have sell serve kiosks and the movie theaters are smaller but comfortable and do have reclining seats. The snack bar is small but has all the usual suspects snack wise. I spent a number of Sundays picking up a friend at his home in East York. We'd head up here for either a movie first, followed by dinner, or vice-versa. Back then, this Cineplex wasn't well-kept. I remember being disgusted with the women's washroom. Things have definitely improved! I recently came back here to take in Depeche Mode's Spirits in the Forest flim. It played at a handful of Cineplex theatres. The closest one from my home was this one. I bought a ticket weeks ago. Well, I really used my Scene points to score a free movie and am thankful that I did. I got here at 6:30 pm, half an hour before the film was expected to start. I got a decent parking spot steps away from the entrance on a rainy Thursday evening and walked in. The Poptopia popcorn looked enticing. I stood there, looking at the flavours. I wasn't hungry, though. I opted to go inside. I got my ticket scanned off my phone through the Cineplex app by a nice man. Pretty much everyone was going into theatre 8. The seats are roomy. I had a good view of the screen. I was nearly sitting in the centre of a row, roughly four rows above the main pathway. I played TimePlay. I joined in rather late. I ended up being second out of three people. To me, that's a miracle! The film was great. When there was concert footage, I felt like I was there. The picture was crisp. The sound was excellent. I enjoyed hearing stories from fans who flew into Berlin to watch the band almost two years ago. I used the women's washroom. Things have improved! Everything was clean and the floor wasn't sticky. Yay! I liked looking at the arcade games. I rarely have time to play them. One of these days, I will. Although Markham and Richmond Hill are my go-to Cineplex theatres, simply because they are close to where I reside, this one is not a bad alternative. They keep the theatres clean and they have comfy chairs. Lots of food and drink options besides the typical theatre choices. There's an Outtakes, Yoyo's yogurt cafe (which also serves a limited selection of Starbucks drinks) and Poptopia Gourmet Popcorn. You can find people from all walks of life in all different shades of colors here. It's a microcosm of real life - noisy, loud and sometimes hilarious. However they are quiet and respectful during the showing of the movies. There are discounts for Seniors and children 13 and below. All tickets (adults, children and seniors) are discounted down to $7.50 on Tuesdays (3D and UltraAVX excluded). If you want to avoid the lines you can order online or at the kiosks at the front left side of the lobby, also avoid the opening showings of new movies (unless you like fighting the crowds). The Mount Pleasant Theatre is a small, older theatre. I hate to do, but I comparred it to the Fox…read more It isn't a Fox Theatre, but it is a cute theatre. It reminds me of the time my dad took me to see the first Indiana Jones movie when I was a kid. I went to see Capitalism: A Love Story (highly recommend BTW). A very cute older gentleman was working the counter where you buy your tickets. Unfortunately, I did have to run out to the bank machine as I had no cashish on me, and it is CASH ONLY at this theatre. 1 adult ticket is $10. They have a small concession stand (I didn't check it out - but the popcorn smelled great!). When you walk into the building the ticket gentleman is on your left and just a few feet beyond him is the concession stand. I thought it was kind of funny that the women's washroom was on the main level, but the men have to go downstairs. Huh. As I was sitting waiting for the movie to start (as I was a bit late, my wait was only 1 minute), I really saw how much has changed in the movie theatre architecture and interior design. There is no gradual grade changes for the flooring, it is just a slight raise from the front to rear seats. The seats do not recline and are shorter in height. The wallpaper is the same as the stuff my grandma had in the 70's and 80's. Heavy with a velour raised pattern. Grandma's was green, this stuff was red. The place does have a bit of a musty smell to it, but you get used to it within the first 5 minutes. The other thing that is really noticeable about this place - no commercials and no previews. You came to see movie X - you only see movie X. Also when the movie starts, they have it down perfectly with how the lights dim...a small detail, but very cool! All in all, if you are in the neighbourhood and don't want to go to a crowded, noisy theatre, check this place out. If you want to stick with an older theatre that has a bit more charm (and commercials), go to the Fox.
