Terrible. Nothing is fresh - it's all pre-fab food. The fish tacos are horrible - frozen breaded fish filets. The beef is drowning in salt. The guacamole has not one chunk of avocado - it's clearly ordered in a huge tub in bulk. Total waste of money; we put it all down the garbage disposal. The ordering process over the phone was super quick and easy. They were very accommodating. We ordered the shredded beef and beef tacos, and beef enchiladas. Everything was good, just do great. I can't speak for anything except the burritos. And I was not a fan. I ordered the chicken burrito, and it was only chicken inside. I expect that of tacos, but I thought a burrito would have a little rice or lettuce or something. Nope, just a gigantic burrito filled with spicy chicken. That said, the chicken was tasty. My partner got a beef burrito, but they messed up the order and gave him bean instead. The wrapper said Beef though. He thought maybe it was beef and bean at first, but nope. And again it was straight up refried beans inside a massive tortilla, nothing else. It was something you'd expect from Taco Bell. The nice part about this place is they have outdoor seating, so it's a good place to chill with some new friends. The prices are also affordable. But learn from our mistake. Nico's Taco shop is our local go to authentic Mexican food restaurant in the Catalina area. Always take out, never eat in. Decent selection of burrito's, tostada's and taco's, as well as other items. Not the best but have good flavor for local spot. The boss woman loves their refried beans and rice in the combos, and she is picky. Wish they would stop raising the prices though. read more

I never thought in last 4 years I would give Nico's a rating so horrible, but it is righteously deserved. Over the last 2 months we have ordered our faves; Super Nachos, Carne Asasa burritos, rolled tacos, etc... the last three orders made us sick. The last, a super nacho was made with thin, badly homemade oily chips that disintegrated into mush before we could dive in moments later. We decided to give what was left a go......all we got from it was hot bellies and a night of tortuous non-sleep and many trips to the restroom. What is their Health Rating? IDK because its not in the window!!!! We're local and we are not going back. Something has changed and its for the worst. 2 days ago we got a green chili chimi plate and 2 beef burrito combo plate. The green chili was ok but the beef burrito"s were rotten. The rice tasted weird and the refried beans had hard beans in them. I used to love their food. After this last time I won't be returning. read more

Happy I found Nico's! Tacos are the bomb.com. I had the carnitas, shredded beef, and fish tacos. Carnitas were my favorite, beef are served on a homemade hard taco (delicious), and the fish is battered and fried. I am assuming the salsas - green and red - are homemade as well... I've heard a lot about how good Nico's was, so I stopped in to get a breakfast burrito. I walked in and there was a guy standing in front of the counter, as if he was waiting to order. I stood there for a moment, until I realized he wasn't moving. That's when I realized that the guy at the counter was just standing there, staring at me. No - "can I help you" or "good morning". So, I walked up and he just stared at me... I said "chorizo burrito please". He rang it up and told me the price. I gave him my payment information and he ran the charge. No "thank you" or "will there be anything else?". Just a sullen attitude. I got the burrito and it was just OK. In truth, I make better chorizo than this place. They have a little salsa bar. The salsa was unimaginative - all spice, no flavor. I usually give a place 3 tries before I talk crap about it, but this place deserves it after ONE try. The only reason it got 2 stars instead of 1 is because at least it's a good value. I won't be back. read more

Good taco shop. I love this type of place. This is the second location I've been to and consistency is something they seem to have. On this occasion, I went here wanting a breakfast burrito that used Real Fresh Eggs. Huevos! And they had them. Too many places use egg beaters, precooked (steamers) and what I call synthetic food. Great food, good prices. This is a small restaurant that is part of the local "Nico's Tacos" chain. Located in the Bashas' shopping center, the food and service (ordering at the register) are great. We are never disappointed in the portions, prices, and quality of the food. There is a sizeable menu to choose from and a lot of people do take out. There are about 8 booths to eat at after you get your food. The salsa bar (two types) is really good. A very nice, basic restaurant, casual. There is also an outside patio. I prefered this Nico's (or so I thought), to the one in Oro Valley. Why? It's a much nicer environment, there appears to be a bigger selection of items on the menu, etc... Is the food quality better? That one is hard to say... I had the chiles rellenos and had a large cup of horchata. The chiles rellenos tasted good but were sitting in a pool of cooking oil. Did they not bother to drain the deep-fried chiles prior to serving? Kinda gross... The horchata tasted awesome as well. The problem? The horchata was room temperature even with ice in the cup. I don't try to play like im a genius or anything; but I know one thing: foods and beverages with dairy should be kept cool at all times. Despite it tasting fine, I wasn't comfortable consuming it any further. Thankfully, it didn't make me sick. Maybe I came on a bad day? I don't know. Basic taco shop. Cheap and tasty with large portion sizes. The carne asana torta was a winner: guacamole tasted fresh, grilled tortilla was chewy and delicious. Chicken taco was disappointing-- chicken meat was dry. Green chili taco also a winner, pork was tender and had a good cabbage slaw.
