Nick's Spaghetti and Steakhouse in Gloucester Point / Hayes is a family owned restaurant that's been in business for a long time. Food is marginally ok. It's edible, but not high quality cuts. Steak was meh. It seems like it's a select cut cooked on a flat top; select can turn out ok, but usually only on a grill. The steak had very little flavor. Our pasta and sauce was good. The chicken for the chicken parm was like it was frozen sandwich patty. Food is something to eat, but is not as good as quality and flavor as I want from a restaurant. Quantity of food is very good. Service was good. Our waitress was quick to ask for our drink order and asked if we wanted bread and appetizers while we look at the menu. She frequently asked if we needed anything without being annoying. Good service. Ambiance and facility is outdated and some areas, like the bathroom need repairs. Overall, this Nick's restaurant location was disappointing for me. I was hoping for a better food quality and ambiance from the established restaurant. read more

This is a regular for us. We come frequently and enjoy their steaks, chix Parm, their salads are usually exceptional compared to most. Their iced tea is freshly made daily. Great service but terrible food!! My boyfriend and I came into Nick's for a late supper. The place was empty but it was 8pm so we assumed that was why. I try not to judge most places that look dated because times are hard and updating and establishment can be expensive. As long as it's clean I'll give it a shot. The hostess was friendly as was our waitress. They had a laminated alcoholic menu to choose from. I got wine and he got a beer. We ordered fried mushrooms as an appetizer. While waiting, the waitress brought our "bread basket" to the table...2 slices of Texas toast sitting on a bed of packaged crackers. Oh goodness. That honestly was the first clue that the rest of the meal wasn't going to be very impressive. We order our entrees, I get chicken parmigiana and he orders a combination plate (veal, spaghetti and chicken parmigiana). The mushrooms arrive and they're basically frozen mushrooms you can get in any grocery store served with ranch in plastic to go ramekins with lids on them. I have a real issue with to go containers being served to dine in guests. It's just lazy. We ate the mushrooms though. They were warm and not disgusting. I got salad with my meal and my partner got the chicken and rice soup. My salad came with an entire slice of onion on top with every single ring still intact, 2 cherry tomatoes and one slice of cucumber. The lettuce was dry and once again the dressing was in to go ramekins sitting on top of my food. I didn't even touch the salad other than to remove the massive amount of onion to see if there was any cheese or perhaps a crouton. Nope. My partner's soup was bland and barely room temperature. It was clearly canned soup. He took a few bites and pushed his aside as well. Then the food came. The chicken parmigiana is basically a pressed pre-breaded frozen meat patty on top of the soggiest spaghetti I've ever been served and some sort of canned spaghetti sauce. This literally looked like cafeteria food and tasted just the same. My partner's plate was SWIMMING in spaghetti sauce; so much that you couldn't even see the meat underneath. The veal was equally disgusting to the chicken parm and everything was lukewarm. It was just AWFUL!! The worst spaghetti and Italian food I've had ever. The waitress was a gem. She was very attentive and apologetic. When she realized we expected real food and not this slop she immediately apologized and got the manager. He had a ton of excuses, insisting everything is prepped fresh every morning and that people LOVE to have their food swimming in canned spaghetti sauce. He did at least remove the entrees from our ticket and we only paid for our wine and beer. We tipped our waitress well and left to never return again. Guys... Save your money and your stomach and go somewhere more authentic. Your body will thank you for it. This place is absolutely terrible. This is a very classic throw back establishment. There were a lot of these in the 90s and I'm sure earlier. It was a classic place to grab a basic hamburger steak, gravy, and potato. They have complimentary bread, butter, and crackers when you are seated, sometimes you just gotta ask. Most of the people here are older and continue to come here because that is what everyone used to done before there were chain restaurants everywhere. Classic simple spaghetti with salad, fried half chicken, simple baked potato, huge fries as a side... just simple things. I am sure if someone had never enjoyed this food when they were younger... they would not like it. However I've grown up knowing what almost every item on this menu tastes like and enjoy it. It's been about 5 years since we'd eaten at Nick's at the point and we weren't sure what to expect. We placed a To Go order for a Greek hamburger steak with cheese and onions (broccoli and house salad as sides) and a pepper steak kabob with a side salad. Everything was excellent. All vegetables were fresh and flavorful. Both entrees were delicious and cooked as ordered. They did a great job packing the order; the food was still hot when we got it home some distance away. Do not waste your time or money. No safety belts on high chairs. No changing table in women's restroom. Our waitress brought our food sat it on neighboring table went and took dirty dishes from another table then came back to serve our food. What? Cross contamination. My ravioli was more like a perogi. They were not even cooked. The sauce was cold.. Awful. When I went to pay the bill the elderly cashier I am guessing owner/ manager...was not even apologetic. She had an excuse for every concern. Pleasantly Surprised. From the outside, this place just doesn't seem to fit the Gloucester area. I assumed it was a spaghetti warehouse. Upon entering, the place is giant with lots of tables. My party of seven were there during their downtime. The water glass is giant, so I really appreciate that. However, the food was what surprised me. Though the mushrooms were canned, it was a large platter with green peepers, mushrooms, and some onions. But I digested it all, unlike Hana Sushi...so I would prefer to come back to Nick's instead of other restaurants. read more

Went for my birthday and the woman got my order wrong twice, I ate it anyway (grilled chicken sandwich), it was good, however my father got the pan seared steak and it had absolutely no seasoning or marinade what's so ever. His sides of green beans were obviously canned and not fresh (tasted disgusting). For the price we should've just ate fast food instead. I see why the whole restaurant was empty besides us and another table that night. Also, the interior needs major upgrading. A lot of ripped seating and yellowish stained walls really screams 2002. Waited several minutes to be seated and the place was mostly empty (no wonder). He got spaghetti with meat sauce, and I ordered the chicken Parmesan. His meat sauce looked and tasted pretty much like Prego out of a jar and my chicken parm was the same dish with a piece of fried chicken breast and a slice of mozzarella sitting on top of it! I will say at least it was a real chicken breast and not some chopped and formed piece of whatever, and it was at least cooked through. Side salads came with both dishes, which consisted of limp iceberg lettuce, one cucumber slice and a couple of very strong rings of onion. I don't know about the husband's salad dressing, but mine was the worst blue cheese I've ever tasted. No bread was offered to us. Having been to to this spot 20 years ago, my memory told me that this couldn't possibly be the same place. But it is. The owner is the same; the carpet other online reviewers spoke of is the same. I don't remember the aquarium placemats. Dammit, I forgot about the one way toll on the 17 bridge!!! Spaghetti. It was cooked well. Italians may say overdone, the Greek owners may tell the Italians to shove it. Mushrooms from a can, bland sausage, and cold but good meatballs. Waitstaff was attentive. And just like my own mother, derided me for not finishing the massive portion of semi-tangy sauce spagehetti and veggetables. My dining companions emptied their plates onto the floor. This is probably one of my favorite steakhouses, ever! Everything about Nick's is phenomenal. We are not locals to the area, and we had a ton of recommendations to eat here, and we are so glad that we went to try it out. Between my fiancé and I we have tried just about everything their menu has to offer, and it is all spectacular. But- my absolute favorite would have to be their fried mushrooms. I have always been a big fan of fried mushrooms, but Nick's have made me fall in love with the steakhouse even more so. Defiantly recommend them if you are a fan of mushrooms, too! read more

We have gone to Nick's Seafood Restaurant since 1980 and have always been satisfied with the food and the service. My husband always enjoyed the steak and I loved the fish, baked potato and their salad with feta cheese and black olives. We are locals to Gloucester, born and raised here. This has been one of the best family style restaurants the county has to offer for many years. I am partial to the Delmonico Steaks and the wife loves the Hamburger Steaks.. They have fresh cut french fries and the best house salads with "Homemade" ranch dressing.. The décor and overall look of the restaurant had gotten a bit outdated there for a while but over the past year or so they have updated but the food still stayed the great food as always has been served. We love this place and highly recommend it to everyone. read more

Went to Nick's tonight for dinner. Was seated promptly. Was twenty minutes to get a waiter. Finally ordered my dinner. After fourty min it shows up. Waitress had no clue of what she was doing. Went here last night after seeing the parking lot full a few times. Don't understand what is going on in there, but the food was terrible. I had the fried butterfly shrimp... Could have bought frozen shrimp from Costco and had a better meal. Other folks in my party felt the same way about their meals, chicken parm made with sauce that clearly came out of a can, the spaghetti was overdone, overall not a good experience. The service was pretty awesome though, which was the only positive part of the dinner. Definitely will not be returning. There were about fifteen people standing next to their cars in the parking lot when we arrived and they were still there when we left so maybe the full parking lot is due to it being a local hangout for the high school kids? read more

I came here with my friends who like the restaurant and it didn't look too bad. I got a salad, some of it was brown but I figured that was okay. I asked for veggie soup (emphasis on veggie) but it has beef in the broth so that made me not order. I asked for pasta, but no marinara is made without meat. I loved this place! I enjoyed the catfish special. Catfish can be pretty hit or miss, but when prepared properly, its delicious. We came to Yorktown for the boat parade and couldn't find a place to eat. So we took a drive across the river and found Nick's. There were a few cars in the lot so we thought it should be ok. My first impression wasn't too bad. It looked like a local family place with maybe the owner out front. I'm still not sure if that's true, but who cares, right? We were seated quickly and I looked around. Locals eating. Ok! Gotta be good, right? Well... anyway, I try to look at some plates around me and don't really see much I want to eat. The menu had quite a big selection and I thought about my options, but the place has the word SPAGHETTI in its name so - you guessed it, I ordered the spaghetti. With meatballs. My girlfriend ordered the spaghetti with sausage. Both with side salads and house Italian. A dish of saltines and 2 slices of white bread were placed on the table, then came the salads. We both picked off a bit of brown from the lettuce and cucumber. Bleah, but ok. Now comes the main dish. The server puts a plate of an oddly grayish colored sauce over some way over cooked pasta in front of us. I swear, as soon as the plate was put on the table I smelled the distinct aroma of what I thought was poop. Ok, there were kids in the next booth. Maybe there? As I push the food around a bit I find I am wrong. Not the kids. The mess in front of me was the culprit. I tasted it and yes. A meat sauce from a can. I suspect a can that was opened a few days before. Ugh. Now the meatball. A garlicky thing with more breadcrumbs than meat. I look at my GF. The waitress has already apologized to her about the lack of sausage on her plate, would she like more? Of course, she says! We dig in. Sort of. I manage to eat a good portion as did she. We tried each other's topping. Her sausage was a cut up breakfast sausage link! I couldn't believe it. As I said, we ate what we could. I was famished and she, being a diabetic, had to eat something now! We finished the meal by devouring the prepackaged saltines on the table. Paid and left. Mixed Review for Carry Out: Pepper Steak and Rice was delicious per mom. Meat was seasoned well and proportion good size. Spaghetti dinner w/ meatballs was delicious Dayia added garlic at home. In addition, the grilled chicken salad was fresh and well seasoned. Excellent cheeseburgers with a nice spicy kick. My son and I enjoyed the burgers. BUT, the fries were Horrible. Dry, burned and perhaps very old. Due to the misfortune of the fries, I'm sticking with 3 stars. All in all, the staff was nice and I can only find fault with the nasty fries which we threw away. read more

This is probably the most prejudice, backward, poorly staffed with rude unhelpful waitresses and some of the most disgusting food I've ever been asked to eat. The older lady at the front desk took one look at me and my partner, stormed to our table tossed our menus on the table and stormed away. We were given stuffed flounder with crab that smelled like yesterday's garbage. Of course we sent it back. We were told by the waitress it smelled great to her and even tasted good she said she tasted it in the back, that seems a little weird to taste something off my plate I've already eaten some of but whatever. So I asked for broiled flounder hold the stuffed part. She popped her head out of the back and asked if I wanted that to go. I said sure. A little while later she brought me a box in a bag she tied the top of the bag. She told me she had put a fresh baked potato in there so I didn't need to take the one from the table. I thought what the heck I'll take the one from the table as well so I untied the bag and opened the box of what was supposed to be flounder. There was indeed some kind of fish in there which smelled very much like a used diaper. Without saying anything to my partner I turned the box towards them and waved the smell in their direction a couple of times. They yelled oh my gosh that smells like piss. So I know it was not my imagination. Looking around at the other three customers and the very smug staff I knew there was no point in arguing any further. We paid our bill left a tip and left the package of Pee fish outside their door. Please! If you are gay, possibly Jewish looking, not a country folk kind of couple don't even bother going here. And if you send food back don't ask for any kind of replacement! They made it very clear we are not welcome and did everything they could to make sure we don't come back. Trust me we will not! Just like the other members of this local chain, this restaurant is stuck in the 80's. Once a hotspot for family dining, it now feels outdated, uncared for, and unclean. The menus even have handwritten prices in them--in pencil! They make a mean Greek burger and fries here, but they're operating under an outdated style of dining. They could condense their menu by about half and just serve a great burger and steak, and probably be a lot better off. Sad to give this a low review, but it's the truth. read more

Worst food of 2015 so far. Wife ordered Ravioli, she said it tasted like "Chef Boyardi", I tried and it was worse than the canned favorite. It came with a soup or salad choice. She opted for the "Vegetable Beef" soup, bad choice. It was "VEGALL" with bouillon or beef soup base added, horrible. I ordered a steak "XTRA CUT DELMONICO", temp ordered was rare. I ordered the salad with balsamic vinegarette. Bread plate came and I asked for some olive oil and balsamic vinegar to dip it in. After a few minutes the waitress returned and said they were out of olive oil. REALLY? The owners are of Greek Origins and they have several menu items that are Greek. No OLIVE OIL? WTF? My "Steak" arrived with a foil wrapped baked potato. The foil was cold (not a good sign), potato cold enough to not melt the whipped margarine. The steak was not rare, it was dead cold inside. Flat grilled sear on the outside left me to believe it came from the freezer. So stingy I was not able to cut it with their "steak" knife. We had brought our canine friend "ECHO" with us so it didn't go to a complete waste. read more

Ate here on Sunday night. The food was semi okay. The fries were good, but stopped eating my food after I saw the waitress keep wiping the sweat off of her face with her hands and still touching food with her bare hands. She kept putting her breasts on plates she was carrying. She hugged some people as they came in and ignored the rest. Most of the other wait staff looked okay. I just can't get over how nasty this lady was. As I waited for my check (forever), I took a closer look at this person. Her hands looked as if they had ground in dirt and her elbows were black.
