Nikrooz Niknahad (Nik) is a menace. After spending 2 days trying to fix my hot tub it still wasn't working (he didn't connect the wires properly). When I asked him to come back he started using abusive language toward me. So I asked him not to come back. He then spent 5 days out in front of my house protesting and bothering everyone who walked by. He then put a lien on my house. I had to sue him to get the lien removed. Now he's appealing the judge's decision and trying to get a jury trial. Do not hire Nik. He's caused me so much grief. He has more time to harass you than to do actual work. read more

PLEASE BE AWARE OF USING NICK AT YOUR OWN RISK. I WILL BE FILING A COMPLAINT WITH THE CA CONTRACTORS LICENSING BOARD We used him for plumbing work, and God it was a nightmare. First of all, he let it slip that he is unlicensed. Second, he was to replace a toilet, but not properly remove the old one since he did not drain it first, causing the bathroom to get a little flooded and we had to mop the mess ourselves. Third, he knocked down a hole in our wall and was unwilling to pay to fix for damages. This job was to be completed in one day; however, he stated that he needed to come back on the weekend, and of course that would require additional payment. SCAM! At the end of the day, we wrote a check for in the amount of about $600, which was agreed upon before. Obviously, this was based on the fact we thought the work would be completed satisfactorily and in full in one day. However, we decided to issue a stop payment due to the fact of an imcomplete job and the fact that he damaged our walls. After notifying him of this, he flew into a crazy texting rage, claiming the property probably wasn't even ours to begin with and we stole it from someone and he would file a mechanics lien etc etc. Please, for your own sake, do not do business with this crazy, unlicensed individual. read more

I have dealt with a troublesome Velux skylight for a couple of years and I recently found out that the problem was that it was improperly installed. I called Velux and purchased the flashing so I could do the job myself. At the last minute I decided to look for someone and found Nikrooz or Nick. It was the best decision I have made in quite a while. I called Nick on Wednesday and he said he would be at my home on 10:00 am Friday. He and his son showed up fifteen minutes early ready to work. The first thing he did was to inspect the skylight. After two minutes he said that it was improperly installed because the installer used improper flashing for a flat roof. This eased my mind immediately because two other roofers from large roofing companies had told me the same thing. The problem was that they quoted a repair estimate that was three times higher than Nick's. Next Nick inspected the flashing I had purchased from Velux. He immediately said "take it back, I will save you a lot of money. This kit cost over $150, I will go buy my own flashing material, make the flashing, and save you a lot of money." I gave him money for the material and within thirty minutes he returned with the wood to make a curb and the metal to engineer his own flashing. Before Nick started I had saved $150 less the $20 I paid to return the flashing to Velux. Nick and his son are hard working, meticulous, competent, confident and conscientious. Whenever they left the roof and had to walk in my home they were careful to remove their shoes. They worked on my skylight from 10:00 until 7:00. It took a couple of hours just to remove the old skylight because previous roofers had surrounded it with tar to patch previous leaks. Before leaving, Nic had his soon vacuum my roof and he pointed out some things that I need to do like replace the screens covering my downspouts because I used the wrong screen. Coincidentally, Nick emailed me today to remind me to replace those screens. I have always wanted to add an additional skylight but I feared another bad installation; however, my fears have been allayed and I have already ordered the new skylight for Nick to install. I have a lot of work that I need done over the next year and my first call will be to Nick. Simply stated, Nick he is a true gentleman who is confident and honest. More importantly, this man works hard and does exactly what he says. His son is respectful of his father and hard working, which is pretty refreshing for young people these days. They form a great pair and I give them my highest recommendation. There is one negative: Nick thinks he can sing so get your earplugs ready. He can't sing a lick! read more

I called Nick to help with an exterior door that had its hinges shift, such that it wouldn't close. He answered the phone immediately and was able to come out in less than an hour. On a Saturday! At 5pm! Anyway, he fixed the problem efficiently and I was happy with the result. read more

First off, I just don't give 5 Stars... how can you trust somebody that happy? We bought a used hot tub in great condition from a woman in Berkeley. Her neighbor actually sold it for her since she's gone off to India on a quest or in search of enlightenment or something. The neighbor cleaned the tub up for us, told us a bit about its history and even helped us to figure out the spa's maintenance regimen. We found a man to move the tub for us (very reasonable, I'll try to post a note up for him as well) and got the spa moved to San Francisco. We needed wiring; Nick has spa experience so we gave him a call. He was out in a couple of days and over the next couple of days wired us up for 220 including some wall work (holes) and a long outside conduit run. Nick scoped out the job, got the parts and did the work. I helped him very slightly because I was interested in how it was all done. We fired up the spa and all seemed well, until Nick noticed that the GFCI breaker was very very hot. We'd been led to believe that the Spa had been wired for 220 in Berkely, but it turned out it had been wired for 110. Nick figured this out quickly and probably saved us significant damage. He made the change for 110 and we're up and running happily now. I've had time to research the issue and am sure Nick knows what he's doing. We'll switch to 220 in a month or two once we've had a chance to rebound from the spa purchase, moving costs, and Nick's costs. Nick was very reasonable, though, very careful to be sure we were happy with his work, and he's called back a couple of times to be sure everything's ok. Beyond all that, Nick's a very educated guy and someone I didn't mind having around the house a couple of days. read more

Uggg, dealing with plumbers in SF can be a pain but Nick did a great job and made the experience painless. First I should warn you I have had the misfortune of dealing with a number of other plumbers her in SF -- and they were less than pleasant. One confirmed an appt with my wife, then didn't show -- another suggested it would be no problem and quoted me a price 3x what Nick asked me for... I was about to have a relative come take care of the problem when my landlord called Nick in for a different issue. He took care of our plumbing issue, was quite friendly, and his services were affordable. read more

I had Nick install a water heater for my house. Our current water heater busted and I needed someone ASAP. Nick advertised that he could put it in for a flat rate of $118, if it is just a swap. But of course my current water heater was like 100 years old and so were the pipes. Nick showed me how corroded my pipes were and said I would need to replace those as well. Labor cost went to $250 Great thing is that he said he would take me to get the parts or he can go get them and would not mark up the price on parts. I decided to go, I spent a total of $147 extra parts. Nick literally spent 6 hours replacing the old pipes and replacing the water heater. It took longer than expected due to the fact that my valve on the old heater and was ceased and clogged and they had to figure out a way to remove and unclog. Also my water heater is located in this basement closet, making it hard to maneuver. Nonetheless Nick did not charge me for additional time, he stuck to to the quoted price. That shows integrity! On top of that after the job was done Nick came back 2 days later to install a new valve for free, being that the old valve that we try to save was not good for the long run. He also removed my old water heater free of charge! Thank God. So all in all my experience was great! As far as water heater installations go I would definitely call him again. Oh yeah just in comparison some of the other quotes I received were $350-$400 to install a water heater. I could imagine how much it would of been once they seen the work that really needed to be done. Thanks Nick read more

Please read all the one star reviews before you let him do any work for you. Very consistent with my experience. He "fixed" a problem that didn't need to be fixed and failed to solve the problem. He then tried to convince me that I needed to spend $1,000 to replace a shower valve. There is a reason he's not licensed. I gave up and he still demanded to be paid for the useless work he did. I tried to compromise and he blew up with swearing and threats to file liens (which he can't because he's not licensed), etc. I ended up paying him just to get rid of him as who knows how it would have escalated. read more

Nick helped me buy and replace a thermostat and fixed two doorknobs in my old apartment. He did great work! I would highly recommend him, except for the fact that he charged me quite a bit more than he quoted on the phone. His son came with him, and I was charged another $39/hr for the son's time. I ended up paying $260 for this work, which seemed really high to me -- and he originally said $59 X two hours, which would have been $118 (which also seemed kinda high, but okay). They were both really nice and Nick seemed to know whta he was doing. I would not call him again though, because of the price, and especially because of the fact that it was not up-front. read more

Nick is marvelous!!! He arranged to come to assess our big old hot tub immediately, finding that there had been an arc fire in the control panel. He ordered and installed a new heater and pump as well as realigning piping for a more efficient array. He fixed several leaks and installed two new union gates and a new drainage outlet. Access to our tub was difficult as it is very large and tucked into a corner of the yard. Nick was very flexible and had creative solutions. He was always conscious of keeping our costs down. He came as many times as necessary to complete this job which was more complicated than anticipated. He did not charge "by the book" but looked towards doing the best job possible. He could very easily have done the minimum and not removed, rerouted and reinstalled the piping for better access. He essentially did this extra conscientious work for free. Nick is a fun guy and our conversations ranged from the reign of Cyrus the Great to good local gossip. My wife, a rather demanding (real) Judge, was particularly impressed with his work ethic, service, and high grade customer service. He will be our go-to guy for future plumbing projects. read more

sadly our building was broken into last night. the intruders smashed the glass in our front door to let themselves in and today (Saturday) we were left with a gaping hole and glass everywhere. I called several locksmiths and handymen, but only Nick came through. he was prompt, very helpful, and very reasonable with his fees. I just needed a temporary solution (putting some plywood over the hole until our building is able to figure out whether to buy a new door), but Nick made sure to make it super secure. after I paid him and he left, he then went to the hardware store and bought some extra bolts to make it even more secure. that was really above and beyond, which is so rare these days. it really lifted my spirits that he cared so much about the job, even as small as it was. read more

Nick was fantastic to work with. He is professional, knowledgeable, and reliable. Our almost-as-old-as-I-am water heater bit the dust and my husband (after a fit from me - I wasn't going to put up with heating water on the stove for a sponge bath for more than one day) gave Nick a call. Nick came by the next day to give us a quote and was able to do the work the same day. There were a few surprises that came up, and he had to work longer than he expected. Even so, Nick stuck to his original quote. He came back a few days later to finish some remaining items. Now, we have a nice, shiny, earthquake-safe, energy-efficient water heater. Nick recently did a couple of jobs for me (re-caulked a tub and replaced 2 outdoor light fixtures). First of all...he was flexible around scheduling and made himself available when it was convenient for me. When he arrived, he was ready to work, and had all his tools in his truck. He's a hard worker...driven to get the job done, and is open to doing the work fast and cheap, or taking a bit more time and care to produce better results. I would highly recommend that you not use Nick to make repairs; he doesn't repair....he installs NEW. I think that Nick that I was desperate to have repairs done quickly as I am the landlord of a one bedroom apartment and had tenants waiting to move in. Nick was consistently late...or didn't show up at all; his real job or other clients made him late/or not show up. One time he didn't come until 8:30 PM. He didn't contact me about his delays until I had called several times; then is new ETA was not fulfilled. The three jobs seemed to be pretty simple: fix a leaky water faucet in the bathroom...he was not able to repair(a simple task)...I had to buy all new. He came the first night...and then told me I needed the new faucet. I had a similar experience with the bathtub faucet. I needed to buy the whole three piece set...(and pay for installing all three pieces...which was not necessary). The ceiling fan seemed to need a new remote. Again...he came one night and THEN told me a need a new remote. He installed the new remote...and then found that not only did the remote not work....but the light switched DIDN'T work (it had previously had worked.) So again off to the store to buy a NEW Ceiling fan. He had no helper so I ended standing on the ladder to help him attach the apparatus to the ceiling. This involved me holding this very heavy fan for in excess of half and hour. He also damages the ceiling. He charged $60/hr....rounding up to the full hour in every case. Of course he charged me for the time spent on installing the new remote as well as installing the NEW CEILING fan. He made no adjustment for the work that I did because he had no helper. In a word.....NO!!! read more

I highly recommend Nick if you need a responsive and reasonably priced plumber or handyman. Nick goes above and beyond what is required and is quick to respond on his phone. Our water heater broke and started leaking while Nick was doing another job for us. Nick spent the time to diagnose the issue and worked to stop the leaking for free. He offered to buy and install a new water heater and encouraged us to get other competitive bids. I got a few bids from other companies which were hundreds of dollars more than Nick's estimate. I hired Nick and he installed the new water heater the next day. I also asked Nick to fix my broken garbage disposal. Nick, the engineer's engineer. Handled tough job for me to fix my hot tub spa. He is honest and sticks to his labor cost estimate even though it takes more efforts than originally planned. I correlated his work to fixing up a antique car. You know how it goes. Some things are custom and need patience to rebuild. Some material costs may go up once you start the work. I had a hot tub that I got in as is condition in my backyard. The tub was in good condition but the machinery was all busted from years of neglect by the prior owner of the property. I found Nick through Craigslist . He was prompt and showed up on time. He guided me with what machinery parts I had to order. He talked to Spaguts in southern California and we ordered what was needed . He took few days and fixed up plumbing and electrical. Now my hot tub works great and is an added feature to my property. I had the most awful experience with Nick. Actually this has been the #1 worst experience I had have with any vendor I've worked with. I own a home in San Francisco and my tenants moved out. Upon showing it to a potential tenant this evening, I discovered that my two gliding doors to the entrance of the master bedroom were off the rails and that the two doors were misaligned. Upon further examination I realized it wasn't so easy to fix. I scrolled through yelp to see if there was someone decent who could do the job tonight. Nick was available and he said he could come between 6PM-7PM. He arrived at 6:30PM and asked me what task I needed to complete. I showed him the door and he said he was very tired but he would work on it for my sake. He then proceeds with his assistant and himself to my home. I couldn't help notice that the man smells and the two of them dragged their dirty shoes onto my newly cleaned home without a care. While they were "fixing" my door they left all these dirty finger print marks on the white door. Finally, Nick claimed he was done. I examined the work and noticed that one was "fixed" and not the other. I told him its not done and he said he was tired and needed to go home and wanted $150 for the work he already completed in cash. And if I didn't mind to clean off the dirty finger prints on the door for him since he was just too tired. Naturally, I was livid. I told him he needed to finish the work and he told me that I needed to appreciate the urgency in which he answered my call and that he would come back whenever I needed him. I had to demand that he himself wipe off his own dirty paws that he had left on my door and I asked him should he come back will I be charged additional for the work he did not complete. He said he does not know, that he only charged for the work tonight. I asked him for a receipt and he said he didn't have one and he demanded the cash right there and then. I am a woman in San Francisco alone in an empty home with a strange man in middle of the night demanding money from me for a job he didn't complete. He couldn't even provide me with a receipt for his service. I paid him to get him out of my hair. Upon returning to the door he "fixed" after he left. As I was closing the "fixed" door the railing popped off and fell to the ground. The supposedly "fixed" door was now even in worst condition than it was before he came. I should have known, because as I was watching these two stooges "fix" my door it was abundantly clear to me they had no clue what they were doing. The rails that popped off the door needed somehow to be fixated, I should have suggested that to Stooge #1 but believing they were "professionals" I thought better of it. $150 down the drain and I don't think I will be having him come back to "fix" what he has broken for additional charges. The man is incompetent, unprofessional, and unskilled. I suspect his assistant was someone he picked up from the Home Depot Parking Lot. Notice he has no business address and the fact he couldn't provide a receipt for his service really weirded me out. I have a funny feeling that Nick is a homeless man running a business as an unskilled handyman. Women BEWARE! __________________________________________________________________ UPDATE This morning I text Nick for my invoice and I get back a text rant full of "F" Bombs and calling me a B-I-T-C-H. I do NOT recommend hiring Nick for work on your hot tub. He works hard, and he is caring and (I think, for the most part) honest. The problem, in my experience, is that (as far as hot tubs go) he is simply not competent - and, worse, he doesn't admit his own incompetence, so he blunders and blunders and blunders for hours, days, weeks, costing me a lot of time and money in the process. To be fair, he only charged me for a tiny fraction of the time he spent working on my tub. Still, though, I am convinced that if I had hired someone who truly knew what he was doing with hot tubs, I would have saved myself many hundreds of dollars in parts I didn't actually need. When I called Nick, my hot tub had stopped heating. However, it had two working pumps, a working ozonator, and no leaks. Because it was an older tub, Nick convinced me that rather than just replace the heating element I should get a whole new controller. I do believe this decision made sense. However, he then led me to believe that he had some special in with some online company that only sold parts to professionals like him. I wanted to call them and pay with my credit card but he wouldn't let me because, he said, they only deal with professionals. Okay, I said, well then in that case, I need a receipt. He never gave it to me - when he brought the part, he claimed that he had been short of money so he had had "a dear friend" put it on her credit card, so he didn't have the receipt. So perhaps he grossly overcharged me for this part. I have no idea. I do know that he and his two sons (who don't actually seem to do any work) spent a huge number of hours installing the parts. I was surprised because I had done my own research and found a company, http://spaguts.com, that would have sold me a whole new controller AND PUMP for less money AND had it all set up so that it could just be put right in and work. Instead, Nick spent probably 10 hours installing this one. Plus he bought several hundred (!!!) dollars, he claimed, of additional parts and supplies at Home Depot that were needed because my tub was so old. Okay, so then he gave me a huge break by only charging me for - I think - three hours of his time, when he spent much more time - BUT I believe he sold me a grossly overpriced part that resulted in much too much labor - that would have been unnecessary if he had bought from the supplier I myself found in a casual internet search. But he did make it work. However - as he finished up, I said, "Is my ozonator hooked up?" He said "You don't have an ozonator." I was confused. I was sure I had had an ozonator. But at this point the guy had been working on my hot tub for 10 hours, and said I didn't, so who was I to say otherwise? As time went on, it became very clear to me that now my hot tub needed chemicals daily, whereas before it never needed them at all. Plus, the new system Nick had installed had taken away a key feature I had loved in my tub - the fact that it heated on a low speed even while I was in the tub. Now, it only heated with the jets on full blast. I didn't like having to have the jets on full blast every time the tub needed to heat - it was noisy and seemed a huge waste of energy. I complained to Nick about this. He said "All hot tubs are like that." I said, "No they're not." He then "spoke to his supplier" and confirmed that I was right, that what was needed was a 2-speed pump, in which case it could heat on the low speed and have jets on the high speed. Apparently I had formerly had two different pumps, but when he put the controller in, he did away with my small pump. Therefore, to get back to what I had had before, I would have to buy a new pump for $200 plus installation charges. (Now, the website I had found would have included a new pump along with the new controller - for less than Nick's super duper company apparently charged for a controller without a pump. A controller that took 10 hours to install. Or, at least, 10 hours for Nick to install.) Then my tub developed a bad leak. Turned out it had been caused by Nick installing the pump wrong. Meant I had to drain the tub, wasting hundreds of gallons of water. And when I opened the motor compartment to drain it - guess what I saw - an ozonator, clearly labeled!! How could this guy have worked on my tub for 10 hours and not seen it??? I could go on and on. Nick didn't know how to remove my filter. The clogged filter was causing heating problems and Nick tried to convince me that I needed to upgrade my electricity instead! He insisted that all hot tubs needed to run on 220. Any internet search reveals that many hot tubs - like mine - are designed to run on 110. I had to fight with Nick to insist that no, the problem was not with my electrical system, it was with the tub. I had to do my own internet search to diagnose the problem.
