If I could give zero stars I would but the system doesn't allow it. Yesterday I took my 17 year old son to Nicks to get his curly hair trimmed by the tall barber. Unfortunately I left him there alone and he wasn't sure what to do when the electric clippers came out. What he left with 1/2 later was a very poorly executed short cut. It looks terrible. When the customer says to cut "a little" then do exactly that. Or if you don't know how to cut curly hair then say so before you start. And if you don't listen to instructions and cut WAY TOO MUCH then at least do a good job. It is shaggy with uneven transitions and uneven ends. Now I have to pay serious mistakes to an actual professional to fix their mistakes. We will not ever return to Nicks. read more

My son and I have had our hair cut in several barber shops and salons in Vancouver in the past 10 years and very happy to return to Nick's to have Miri cut my son's hair. We used to reside in close proximity to Nick's when it was John's (Nick's uncle). John first cut my son's hair then passed it onto Nick. Miri took over after the relocation to the more west Broadway location after Nick returned to Greece. Miri did a great job on my son's haircut and probably the best haircut he has had in the past few years. And at $14 (cash only) plus tip, it is hard to beat the quality of cut for that price. I've been looking for this barber shop for my whole life. Miri is the best barber ever! I've had my hair cut at shops that run the gamut from $10 Great Clips with a coupon to $120 sipping "complimentary" wine while you get scented oil rubbed in your head. But given the cost of living in Vancouver, I've been trying to save money the last few years. I found myself getting my hair cut for around $12 by a person who was very nice, but gave horrible hair cuts! She was cutting my hair into wacky lengths that would cause my hair to puff out at weird places (like the side). I moved into a new neighborhood and happened to randomly walk by Nick's one day. I went inside and met the owner Miri, who explained how the previous cut was causing my hair to respond the way it did. He fixed me up, I was looking sharp and was out of there in under 20 minutes. I just had my second hair cut this morning, and Miri did an even better job! His prices are reasonable and my hair looks stellar. I'm very happy and will return to Miri for all my future cuts. read more

This is the best barbershop in Vancouver. Prices are actually fair, and you get a great haircut for $20. Nobody else cuts hair like this anymore, and does it for everyone! Great people as well, always the same energy and consistency in the cut! Bless this place. read more

Dont bother getting your haircut from the tall old bloke. Only get it from Mirri. This used to be a fun shop with good conversations but now both the guys looks uninterested ans sometimes irritated. They rarely smile. The haircut is good though and relatively cheap also. I went to Nick's for my first hair cut three months ago. Waited for 10 minutes reading a Times magazine, realized they only took cash, crossed the street to an ATM, and I'm in the chair. I gave the guy some instruction and fair warning, that I don't trust barbers because they don't listen and just tell me to "throw some gel in it" after butchering my hair. As a result, I'd read up on cutting hair and started doing it myself. Not only did he not insult my self-cutting prowess, despite the rather patchy crown cuts, he did a great job and didn't talk too much. I left 20 minutes after getting in the chair, my hair much better looking and only about an inch shorter. And it grew out for three months and still looks great. Cool stuff, pyschic barber dude. Also saw some great looking hair on the girl beside me, so he may be the go to guy for ladies that like their hair short. Just something to keep in mind. read more

Wandered in because I was getting a little shaggy and the style and price of this place sounded exactly right. Will W. is spot on. John really knows what he's doing with a comb and scissors. I got in his chair, he asked me how much I wanted off the back, then he went directly to work. I walked out with a classic cut and a smile on my face. Definitely the best $10 haircut of my life. I read the reviews, and like anything reviewed online there's good, bad, and terrible. Haircuts are definitely a VERY subjective thing to review as everyone's taste, hair, head, style, etc is different. I like a "man's haircut." Very boring, but I don't suit the fancy salon stuff. I have had my haircut at salons around downtown and Kits for years paying from $25 - 80 per cut, and had only once been to a barber before. The previous barber experience was not my thing, therefore I thought all barber shops will give you a buzz cut. Nick's Barber shop was perfect and exactly what I've been looking for. (The fact that my name is Nick has nothing to do with my opinion, but I do feel really special there because of it.) The shop is very clean, organized and actually nicer than some high-priced salons in the Westside of Vancouver. The conversation and small-talk is not an A+, but I'm not there to make friends. But my haircut is exactly what I wanted. For $14 (current price as of Feb 2014) this is the best deal I have found for anything in awhile. I would pay much more, but because of the value and the great cut, it's my new regular spot. As for the people that say it's "far away," also subjective. It's in the Westside of Vancouver, it's down the street for me. Downtown is out of the way for some people. read more

Nick's Barber Shop has been my go-to for a quick, cheap and good-looking haircut for the past three years. I've always been fussy when it comes to getting my hair cut, but Nick and Miri always do a great job. Nick's Barber Shop is a no-nonsense, traditional barber shop. They don't take appointments; it's on a first-come, first-serve basis. It only takes 10-15 minutes to go from getting into the chair to walking out with a new haircut; at first I was a bit concerned that they were rushing through my haircuts, but that eventually became a non-issue as I was consistently leaving the shop very satisfied. Conversation is light, even as a regular customer for the past three years, though I can't say that's a bad thing. It's nice to be able to get a quick trim and not have to worry about making small-talk. Even though it's a bit out my way now that I'm not going to school anymore, the combination of a quality cut, quick service, and great value keeps me coming back. read more

Strolled in on a Saturday afternoon totally unannounced - had to wait 10 minutes or so but after that I had the pleasure of a wonderful haircut by a friendly Albanian chap who really seemed to know what he was doing. This is the first professional haircut I've had in a while (my girlfriend usually does it) but I am more than pleased with the result - I think the GF should be too :) A lot of times in the past I've not liked my hair for a few days after a cut but I can safely say it looked great as soon as I walked out the door - the Barber even took time to explain how my hair sits and that there is an ideal length that it should be cut to keep things looking snazy. Very cool, legitimate barber shop. As soon as I walked in, I knew I was in the right place. Old style barber shop with two Greek guys who run the place. I have very thick, curly, hair, and that can be a problem for a lot of hair stylists/ barbers for some reason...but these guys know what they are doing. Walked in with no expectations and walked out with one of my better haircuts in years and for $12 dollars, its a price you can't beat. John just gave me a haircut and I got to say it was as old-school as you can get. This is a man who knows hair. I sat down in one of the two chairs and said nothing. He just went straight to work. Then I piped in that I wanted it short. That was about all the conversation we had. If you want a chatty barber, this may not be the place but if you want a barber who works with a pair of scissors and an experienced eye then this is just the place for you. What I got was a traditional short haircut just like I wanted. This ain't no fancy pants salon! Maybe that's why I got what I wanted. You see, if you want more I'm sure they could give it to you but for the most part this is a straight up barber shop (minus the spinning pole outside). As good as one gets. A very nice traditional little barber shop. It had been almost a year since my last cut, so things were getting a bit shaggy. Miri did a great job cleaning me up, very happy with my haircut. They were really friendly, and even buzzed off my moustache to officially end my Movember campagin. Conversation was light, Miri explained how I should style my cut and was happy to snap a few before and after shots on my cell phone for me to post on Facebook. I've been looking for a convienent friendly little barber shop in Kits that I can afford for some time, I guess I wasn't looking very hard because I don't need to look any further. Cheep and fast, but they are not very attentive, and in my case it ended with two catastrophies. The couldn't get the hair straight, the sideburns did not have equal length, etc. It happened twice, I am all for giving a second chance. If you care about how you look, and not just to get your hair shorter, than this is probably not the place. read more

I asked for a haircut with a 5 on the sides and a trim on top. The barber used the clippers without a guard to shave the hair off my temples. It looks ridiculous. I didn't notice until after the haircut. Violation of the simple rule that you don't shave someone's hair off unless they request it. I won't go back, unless I need my head shaved. Although I could do that myself. The place is cheap ($12) though. read more

I got a hair cut couple days ago from nick. However it was a totally crap. I wasted the gas, time and of course money and ended up to wear the hat until my hair grow for next hair cut. I highly recommended not to go there if you want to go outside without putting your hat on your head.I asked him to cut my hair the way i explained in the beginning but he did the total opposite and mostly cut all of my hair off. This was the worst haircut I have ever got in my life I will never ever go back to his barber shop. read more

What a relief that I found Nick's Barber Shop. Awesome cut, awesome price, I will definitely return. Thanks Miri. After spending what nearly felt like a week searching for a haircut in Vancouver that didn't cost $40-70 for a simple haircut... I had almost given up. But then I stumbled upon Nick's Barber Shop and was drawn not only by the $12 cuts, but the history of this place. I called and was surprised that they didn't take reservations, but thought I would just go down early Saturday morning and hope for the best. After a very convenient bus ride, as they are right along a major route, I found the right place. Upon walking in at 8:30am (they opened at 8am) there were already 3 people waiting... must be a good sign. It seemed everyone in the place but me was a regular and the banter between the barbers and customers was enjoyable. After waiting only about 10 mins, I got my haircut by Miri. I sat in the seat, he briefly asked what I wanted and once we were both clear and he fully understood me, he began cutting. Miri got right down to business and aside from asking me a few times if it was short enough, or if it was looking how I wanted, he stayed pretty quiet (not that I cared at all). After it was done he showed me the sides/back, asked me if I was satisfied (which I completely was) and I paid and left the place. I left extremely satisfied with my haircut, not only because of the price, but because it was exactly what I wanted and is probably the best and quickest haircut I have received in years. I will definitely be a return customer, and it's no surprise why so many others are. I've been going here for six months, but today had the worst haircut of my life. I told the older barber to cut it to the top of the ears, and he proceeded to run an electric razor across the side, completely cropping it. I protested and finally figured out that he doesn't speak English well, and just fakes it. I cut him short. I did pay him the $10, it wasn't worth the hassle. I spoke to the younger guy as I was leaving, who saw that there was a real problem, that it was anything but "to the top of the ears". I'll be wearing a hat for a few weeks. I have to say, stay away. I feel badly about that because I believe in supporting local merchants, but if you have something important or generally care at all how you look, this is not the place the go. As I left, the younger barber was outside. I told him that "not understanding something in a language other than your native tongue is not shameful. Being a barber who claims to understand things he doesn't, and then cuts people's hair off when they didn't want it, THAT'S SHAMEFUL. I don't know how the old guy sleeps at night. read more

Nick is super friendly and talkative, and we always have a good laugh.
