The devil eggs are AMAZING!!!!!!!! The best devil eggs I have ever had and that is saying a lot because my sister can put her foot in some devil eggs. So DEVIL EGGS are a WINNER!! This is definately a locals spot. People walking in and out all seem to know each other. The drinks are darn cheap - at least the whiskey gingers. I ordered food for the first time today. The drinks and the ambiance were fine, our bartender got to us quickly, although she seemed annoyed with having to serve us. The food tasted okay but it was very clear that it was prepared using a microwave (not only by the look and feel but also because we watched the guy in the kitchen). Clearly the microwaved plate was so hot that they had to put it on another plate in order to serve it to customers. In other words, definitely go for the reasonably priced drinks, quick service, and great atmosphere, but if you're looking for a decent bite to eat, head elsewhere. I was visiting San Francisco for work and had about 6 hours to explore the city on my last day. It was Sunday and I was craving eggs or french toast, because I'm predictable. A little after 11am, there wasn't much open in the area and I found a sports bar with a high rating show up on my brunch search -- Nickies. A little timid, I decided to check it out. An unassuming bar with surprisingly good food. There weren't many people in the establishment yet, but a couple of ladies at the bar with DOGS, and I was living. Anyway, they let me seat myself anywhere so I took a booth near the window where I could people watch and also watch soccer on the TVs. The bar itself is large, with lots of seating, especially toward the back. Bathrooms are also clean, which I think says a lot about how you run a restaurant/bar. They don't have a huge menu, for good reason, so when my server came around, I was set on the breakfast burrito, which comes with a free side, so I ordered the hash browns. I waited maybe less than 10 minutes for the food to arrive. For a sports bar, the presentation was beautiful and burrito was even better. I loved that they included little potato slices inside the burrito. A+. Also came with a side of pico. Hash browns were also hot and delicious, and a larger portion than I expected. Prices are what you'd expect -- around $13 for an entree, but honestly, life is too short to eat shitty food. From my perspective, Nickies seems to be a consistent, reliable go-to for no frills brunch food. I'd love to come back and try out that mimosa special next time. read more

I've been here a few times for games and it's never been overly crowded, but still with enough people around so that it didn't feel barren! The onion rings and fish tacos were some of my favorite food buys from Nickies. Another honorable mention is their chicken wings, which are smaller and what I prefer. Plenty of options on tap and there is a weekday happy hour. They have a lot of TVs, making it a solid spot for sports. read more

Unfortunately for me, a lot of the pubs/bars we passed by within one block radius of Memphis Minnies didn't have a full bar. Except for Nickies. Nickies is clean and roomy with a curved long bar near the entrance and lots of banquets and tables to one side. I went with my standard G&T. I also spied lots of brown sugar on the shelf including Knob's Creek and Maker's Mark. Draft beer lovers will be happy to know that Trumer Pils and Hoegaarden are on tap. The prices weren't absurd so we were happy about that. I'll keep this place in mind when I'm in the area since they have a full kitchen as well. Trivia night is every Monday. read more

I've been told this neighborhood is called Lower Haight, well there's nothing to Haight about this place.. get it? Puns aside, the food here is surprisingly good. You'd think a sports bar in a nondescript location would be questionable, but everything we had was great. That included the Deviled Eggs, Fries, and Bruschetta (thanks to the previous reviews). I ordered the Fries with the Lemon Aoili and I can't recommend the combo enough. Fancy mayo should be sold in bulk. The last notable thing was the service. Our waitress and the bartender, too were friendly and engaging. She definitely made someone like me surrounded by sports fans comfortable. Top notch. read more

Sports bars aren't really my thing, but if you're just getting drinks you could do worse. They have Shiner Bock on tap which is always appreciated and the barstaff/waitresses are all awesome. Unfortunately the kitchen has failed me one too many times. My last three meals here have consisted of 1) An $8 blt on untoasted bread cut into four pieces with so little bacon on it that one of the pieces didn't have ANY bacon it it. That's right, it was a lettuce and tomato sandwich. 2) Irish bacon and cabbage that was COLD and the cabbage was horribly undercooked 3) Fried chicken that was so overcooked and dry that it was nearly black served with cold mash Add too this the ripoff appetizer prices and you have a sports bar where ordering anything that isn't in liquid form is a bad idea. Which is a damned shame because otherwise it's a pretty cool joint. read more

Wifi Cheap drafts It's a fairly large bar so you don't ever really feel crowded and there are bathrooms on both levels. Vegetarian nachos ftw! Cons: There are very few vegetarian options on the menu; there could be more...a dish of mashed potatoes doesn't count as dinner (I wish it did.). 10 person trivia teams who use their cell phones...for shame. I went to Nickie's last night to watch the Spurs-Warriors and Kings-Sharks games. Fun place! It definitely has the festive atmosphere of a sports bar - however, I was surprised how small their many flat screen TVs were... they looked to be 21"? Our waitress was extremely nice but I had to prompt her after 45 minutes to ask about the spinach salad I had ordered when I first arrived. She explained, "Sorry, I put the order in, but the kitchen is slammed". I pointed out that two guys had sat down at the table next to ours -around10 minutes after I had ordered- and had been served their burgers already (they were halfway through when I flagged her down). She was very embarrassed by this, apologized profusely, and then said she would take my salad off my bill (a nice gesture). Minutes later, my giant spinach salad arrived. Nothing special but since it was almost 9:00 p.m. and I was hungry, it hit the spot. Another thing is we had to flag her down every time we wanted a drink. When I ordered my 1st beer, my friend sat there with an empty glass and she didn't ask him if he needed another drink. He literally had to get HER attention to order another drink. I used to be a cocktail waitress and I was very surprised about this. On a bright side, they have a good selection of beers on tap, and several good IPAs (my fave). I also was pleasantly surprised how nice/clean their bathrooms were!! These things, as well as the fun atmosphere and getting my salad comped, brings my review up from 3.5 stars to 4 stars. I like coming here on Sundays for all the football games. Julien, the bartender, is always friendly and on top of things. I just wish he had some support behind the bar or to run food orders. Seems that most Sundays he's on his own and it can delay things. Order the famous Kezar buffalo wings and Breakfast is delicious too, especially the chorizo scramble. read more

I dig this place. The food is good, the wait staff friendly, the prices acceptable, and the draught beer selection impressive for a small neighborhood bar. For lunch, I had a turkey sandwich with fries and the sandwich, while good, was not as good as the fries. Seating is a bit weird with tables of peculiar height. I'm told this is typical for bars in Ireland. While I can appreciate authenticity, this is America. And this is really a non-complaint. While we saw the 3rd Place game on Saturday at MDITF, the place was packed on Sunday for the less impressive Dutch v Spanish Mixed Martial Arts game. So we wandered over the Nickies. No required $10 at door or having to squirm out to an ATM that wasn't broken....BIG plus. Despite a full crowd for the WC Final, I got served insanely quickly. I've been here several times now. I was here for a friend's birthday last year, and all the staff were very accomodating. We had a pretty large group and took up most of the back part of the bar. We had some appetizers and drinks. Great beer selection and buffalo wings. I've also been here for brunch. Delicious Bloody Mary's. Spicy! It also looked like they had bottomles mimosa specials. I had eggs Benedict and my gf had pancakes and bacon. Everything was reasonably priced and deliciously unhealthy. Only downside to brunch here is that there is no outdoor seating and it's very dark inside. This place continues to be one of my favorite bars in Lower Haight. read more

When we walked in, some salty dog regular lookin types welcomed the baby with cheers. One of them had a beagle that was super friendly. the Bar was good and lacked a certain heir of pretentiousness that I have come to associate with bars in The City. The food was bar food. you want fine dining? go to a restaurant. I would reccomend the Nacho's with Fries instead of chips. I don't know what happened to this place. I used to be here every Sunday for NFL games but coming back almost a year away the whole atmosphere has changed. New servers are inattentive and seem lost and confused. The kitchen is bringing out food but ticket numbers are wrong. The whole atmosphere is just unenjoyable. Why do homeless people smell sour? Ahh lower haight, you're dirtier and more druggie infested than your upper cousin but I like you better because you don't have all those damn tourists around. Personally, I love the place and I really like how they accommodate all kinds of tastes, personalities and desires in one place. Not an easy thing to do. The beer and wine selection is top notch. WOW this place sure has changed!!! Back in the day Nickies was a fairly sketchy dance club with kind of a weird reputation. A while back a friend wanted to scout it out as a potential place to view world cup matches. I didn't know where he got the idea to but I went along and boy was I surprised at the transformation. Someone turned it into a high end gastro-pub and sports bar. It's an entirely new place with the same old name. It's not really my kind of place but I'd go back in a pinch. read more
