My husband went in for a basic exam and X-rays and paid the $50 for a second opinion. We expected to hear about a couple problem areas, sure, but what we didn't expect was the total refusal to give any actual information. They told him he had a "mouthful of cavities" and possibly needed one or two root canals... yet they would not tell us how many cavities, where, what teeth, whether he had gingivitis, or any specifics at all. Every single question was met with some version of, "You'll need to schedule another appointment for that" which, of course, would be another exam fee. No treatment plan, no transparency, nothing. Just a push to book a second visit before giving even the most basic details. When we asked if they could at least start anything (cleaning, filling, something) after that second "consult," the answer was a shrug and basically, "Maybe a cleaning." So essentially: two appointments, two charges, zero clarity, zero work done. Not sure who has the free time for that kind of runaround. On top of that, they tried pushing Invisalign on my husband who has never had TMJ symptoms, grinding issues, jaw pain, or anything that would justify it. They market themselves as "low-cost dentistry," but the exam is the only thing that's inexpensive. Everything else feels like an upsell or a delay tactic. They also refused to give him his X-ray and told him he'd need to call back on Monday to request it. Just strange all around. We really wanted to give this place a fair shot, but the lack of transparency, the pressure to come back for unnecessary consultations, and the random Invisalign push all added up quickly. The X-rays were way more non invasive than other dental visits in my youth, and the tech was friendly, bubbly, and very careful to make sure I was comfortable. I love that you can see others while getting care, and it's hilarious to make eye contact with someone else while your mouth is stretched like a character from Beetlejuice. I laughed, a lot lol. My hygienist was a sweetheart, with an unmatched bedside manner. But my favorite part? Going over the recommended work (a root canal and cap for ya girl), and seeing the prices and not being forced to commit to anything. They even told me a way to avoid a root canal if it was too expensive, and how to care for my cavity until I was ready. Which I appreciated wholeheartedly! I've been to this Coast Dental location a handful of times in the last year and most visits have taken about an hour. Sometimes I'll arrive on time and still end up waiting 30-45 minutes to be seen. Other times they were ready for me as soon as I walked in the door. The hygienists that have worked on my teeth have all been quite friendly and knowledgeable. I was much more comfortable with the staff in this office than I was at the coast dental in Lakeland. What impressed me most about this location was when i first went I didn't have dental insurance anymore. When I told them this, they immediately marked the prices way down on a lot of the services. Wow! thanks! I still have to pay $20 for a tube of prescription toothpaste, though. The actual office itself is in better condition than the Lakeland location, too. Seems a bit newer. My biggest complaint would be that they play muzak in the waiting room AND have the volume on on the TV. WTF!?
