Wow! I'm shocked everyone hasn't given Nicholson Clinic 5 stars. My experience throughout the whole process has been amazing. I was truly skeptical, my PCP had been really serious with me the last three years about having weight loss surgery, I refused due to all the horror stories I had heard / witnessed. When asked, "Did they do exactly as the doctor told them?", my answer was no, they hadn't. I agreed to research the process and make a decision. I visited Dr. Long at the Nicholson Clinic, he told me I was a good candidate for the surgery, but there was no hard sales press, no pressure, it would be up to me. I explored it, did all the required steps and determined if I really wanted to live a healthier life, this would be the tool for me. I started my pre-op diet at 294, and in less than 4 months I'm down 66 pounds and feeling better than I have since probably my 20's - I'm 53. I've done exactly what they've said, and it's the best decision I've ever made for my health. No more blood pressure medicine, knees don't hurt all the time anymore, I can buckle my airline seat belt, slide into a booth, sit in any chair, don't snore anymore and am enjoying going from a size 26 jeans to a size 18. I'm about half way or so to my goal, which is to be healthy. Dr. Long is great, Lindsey the Medical Assistant makes you feel like you're with your friend and confidant as she takes all your measurements - kind and not judgy. Adam and Rick are two of the PA's I've seen - so kind and informative!! Candace is there for all your questions via email or facebook, no matter how gross or personal or embarrassing - she also has some amazing videos to help coach you through. Rachel is my patient advocate and has helped with all the pre- and post details I needed with insurance and anything else I've needed. And the office staff is always so friendly and helpful. The waiting room has chairs for bigger folks like I was, so I could sit comfortably, but frankly, my wait wasn't long. I regret using the Nicholson Clinic. The patient care has been sub par. Several calls that were not returned, follow up missed, and information not sent as promised. For example, after blood work and being told I would here about the results, I have to call and follow up more than a week after they received the results because no one contacted me. I was promised to receive information emailed, never did. I have had to do 100% of my own follow up and make several calls/email for each interactions. When you leave a voicemail, they say they'll return it in a day, but each time I have had to call back two days later. I am severely disappointed and am worse off for having chosen this clinic. I was a self pay patient so perhaps they care when they still get to bill your insurance for visits. read more

I first saw Dr. Carlton in December 2014. I went in and he was very kind and I was very impressed that he took the time to sit and speak with me and he explained all the procedures that were available to me. In the end we decided on doing the gastric sleeve because it was what I felt more comfortable with. On 3/31/2015, I went in and had my procedure done. Dr. Carlton did an amazing job with the surgery. I was back to work within 6 days after surgery. I started out weighing 319lbs. and less than 2 years later I am now 160lbs. One thing that Dr. Carlton told me to do was to go and see a nutritionist and to stay with them because they will help with throughout the process of losing the weight. I am grateful for his advice because he was right. I would recommend Dr. Carlton to anyone who is seeking for a very knowledgeable doctor to help you through your weight loss surgery. read more

Don't do it. The staff and surgeons are amazing....until you get surgery. After that it is a joke. Their slogan is "with you all the way" but obviously it means "with you all the way up to your surgery yand then you are on your own." After that, you are a bother. Any concerns or questions you have, you get told to talk to your PCP...who in my case had nothing to do with my surgery. I'm glad that I got the surgery. Dr. Carlton did an amazing job but if you truly want support from your surgeon's office don't go to Nicholson Clinic. I have gotten more support from my dietition that I am no longer paying, and true results (who nicholson is affiliated with). If anything go through True Results, they will pair you with a surgeon and offer great support (from what I have heard from other patients). The clinic offers a monthly weight loss surgery support group but you can find that anywhere. That is the only thing they offer and in my opinion when you are going through a major life change you can use all the support you can get and you just don't get it here. I have complained about this more than once ande never get a phone call, an email, nothing. They just don't care. read more

Very friendly and nice....until their office staff messes up and doesn't get pre authorization correct then they treat you like crap later on because they can't get your insurance to pay and they know it's their fault. Dr. Roshek was extremely nice and I loved his personality before and after two of my surgeries but when I went back for something else, I overheard the nurse and him talking in the hallway and he came in with an attitude and even mentioned the insurance thing that was 7 yrs prior. I am so sorry that I even bothered contacting you for assistance with my issue. I just thought that this was very important information for people in charge to know and would want to know. I guess only good reviews receive appropriate responses. Since this is my child coming to your clinic and she using my health insurance I thought that you might have the common courtesy to apologize and use the statement that is usually used and always fitting when issues occur. It is usually said like this "We apologize about your issue and in no way is this a reflection of our business practices". Also, using those funny words as saying "I am so sorry"... I guess I asked a lot. No one was seeking a discount. Just an apology for my treatment and how I was spoke to. Just someone to discuss with me the issue and ensure me that it would not take place again to me or anyone else. Mistakes are made. We are human. No biggie. I guess asking someone to clean up what they messed up was way too much to ask. Silly me. I see why Abby was able to be so disrespectful. Again the issue was the disrespect.... Not the mistake. She was just speaking to one black girl to the next so she threw her professionalism out of the door. She spoke to me like she was on her own personal time. Not your Clinics. Oh well. This is just one bad review. It doesn't matter. Also, the hospital was the one who gave me the correct price and called Abbey to tell her. They apologized to me on your office behalf. I had a revision from a LapBand to a Gastric Sleeve in early Dec 2016 by Dr. Roshek. He is aces! I love how practical and straightforward he is, while still having a great sense of humor. He made sure I was well informed about what my surgery would do and what would be required of me to be successful. The team in both Plano offices are always friendly, patient and helpful. I love how clear and supportive they all are! I had questions, but often they answered them before I got to ask. They all provided practical, useful advice and were always encouraging. I surpassed my goal weight in the summer of 2017 and have now maintained at the same weight as I was in high school for about nine months. Like so many other sources, they encouraged me strongly to stick with the process, eating real food and taking care of my body with exercise. I'm not a fitness nut - I just do daily stretches, crunches and walking. I still drink a protein water or shake most days, but my primary intake is real food and plenty of water. I have actually lost another size in the past several months without losing any weight. I look and feel better than I have in years and I'm seriously considering saving up to have the excess skin removed. My insurance won't cover it, but I'd trust Dr. Roshek and any doctor he'd recommend to take care of that for me! Oh, and my niece is having surgery with him later this month. I was more than happy to refer her to him and I would recommend anyone to him without hesitation if they need to consider WLS. read more

Dr. Long is a freaking genius and a magician! I had the lap band put in several years ago by another dr. Worst pain I've felt in years! I ended up having it removed and Dr. Long performed that surgery and then the sleeve surgery. I was terrified about the pain from my previous bad experience. I had the band removed in March and the sleeve done in August. Very little pain, he made sure I have enough meds to get me through what little pain I do have and he and his staff took care of me the entire time! I had my gastric sleeve done June 2016 with Dr Long. He was great. He is very professional yet down to earth with a little humor. I've had a good experience with the staff at both the Plano and Dallas offices. They've treated me with respect and care. I prefer the Dallas location because of the distance from my home. I was sleeved on November 16, 2016 with Dr. Carlton. He was and still is a wonderful doctor. Any questions I have the staff answer, or will get back with me usually within the same day. I have never felt pushed aside, very helpful staff. I've seen two of the PA's, Adam and Rick and they also are wonderful. They give you so much support and motivation. You can tell that everyone just wants to help. I have worked in the medical field for over 15 years and I have seen how some doctors and staff can act, but not at the Nicholson Clinc..they are so helpful. I have to hand it to this whole crew. I've had surgery performed by both Dr's. Nicholson & Long in the last 12 years and things could not have gone smoother. All the pre-op contact and support followed up with the post-op care is just amazing. My pain was minimal and since they won't prescribe Schedule II drugs (hydrocodone & oxycodone) I brought some of my own along but hardly needed it (blame the DEA and Congress, not the docs). I had a little bit of pain for about 2 days after the procedure and after that just some soreness. You have the option of getting Tylenol with codeine or Tramadol prescribed which they don't tell you but I listed codeine as an allergy since I've had bad reactions to it before so they gave me tramadol instead which I think is a far superior pain killer. The whole process has been pretty easy from my point of view. The Nicholson Clinic is a well-oiled machine that excels at bariatric surgery. read more

They don't provide you with all the information and certainly don't do it in a timely manner. They cost you way more in time, time you have to take off than they do in the actually surgery. Do not trust this outfit. I had a worthless lap band installed by Dr. Powell who has left the state removed by Dr. Nicholson that was causing me discomfort & not helping me lose weight. Dr. Nicholson was to install a gastric sleeve @ the same time while in surgery. I never lost any weight with this surgery. I did have to go back into surgery due to a massive hematoma caused by improper stitching of the wound left by the lap band portal removal. I've never lost 1 lb. with this gastric sleeve that was supposedly installed? I don't think any sleeve was installed? I never experienced any extreme fullness or anything after the sleeve was installed. I doubt he installed anything but my check in his bank account. Nothing to lose here except your money. This place is a not what it's advertised. Complete scam. Update: No doubt that Dr. Nicholson was ensnared in the Forest Park hospital scam. He was forced to cease billing for repair surgery for his incompetence which benefited me. The federal government doesn't indict people unless they see criminal activity. I had the gastric sleeve on August 4th, 2016. From the initial consultation to the post-op follow ups Dr Chad Carlton and his staff have been amazing and extremely helpful. All of my options were clearly explained and there was never any pressure. There is a great follow up support team available and either the doctors or nurses will get back to you the same day. If a doctor or staff advise you to do a procedure that is recommended and let the individual know that you might have side effects, if so make an appointment with us. So when I tried to do so, especially when you all had a physician in house, to recommend me to go see my personal doctor that did not request this procedure seems pretty skeptical. Hi! I actually had my gallbladder removed by Dr. Brian Long. He was wonderful. If you decide to go with this group, you will have a good surgical outcome. All the surgeons are good. The office staff greeting was unpleasant. Since I was sick, I naively expected a quick call back to schedule my surgery. I won't bore you with detail but phone communication with this staff is very difficult. I did contact a manager. So, if you are deciding about surgery and you are willing to advocate for yourself, this is the place for you. Otherwise, go to a smaller practice that has less doctors and less locations. Here, they are spread too thin and a patient is no longer a human but a complaining voice on the other end of the phone. read more

I was new to the DFW area and had an umbilical hernia that grew troublesome over time. It was 2015 and I saw a commercial on TV and thought to myself "Sure, it's time to go get this thing checked out and see my options". I made the appointment for a "consultation" and went to see the Dr who basically told me what I ALREADY knew. I had a hernia that needed surgery with mesh. Okay, fine. However, I wasn't ready for the cost and put it off for another year and actually went with another surgeon and facility. Fast forward to 2018 and I get a message from a distant relative that "MY DOCTOR needed me to return their call". I was completely confused and thought it was a mistake. Long story short, these bastards are charging me over $200 for a less than 5 minute talk with the "Doctor". They even charged my insurance at the time and I was responsible for the remainder which was roughly $200. Even though I'm not well versed on how doctors operate, I have NEVER been charged for a consultation. This place is a rip off in my opinion and I'm glad that my money went to a better surgeon, Dr Ramsey Stone!!! read more

Had weight loss surgery with by William Nicholson in 2011. At Forest Park in Dallas, his office was at Baylor Plano then. My mother and daughter were there and they said I was screaming and crying in post-op. I can not remember that, but I did have a chipped tooth and a extremely sore shoulder. I went for first post-op visit and the office was closed at the time of my appointment. Made another, waited in the room for 2 hours and when he finally came in, I had one question about something pulling apart in my stomach sensation. He sat there, never said a word for like thirty minutes, looked at his tablet, texted on his phone and then walked out. Never came back in. It was then after 5pm when I went to look for someone they were all gone. I finally found an unlocked door and left. That is how I knew he did not care how I was feeling or if I needed anything. 2012 I had lapband surgery, 2013 I the port flip and surgical repair, 2014 we discovered that the line of the port popped off the band, because the surgeon had put to much tubing in, another surgery to repair and replace tubing. The first 3 surgeries were through a True Resumts, which Nicholson Clinic took over. In August 2017, Nicholson clinic told me, my band was causing bronchitis and pneumonia. Dec 2017 we took out the band and did rny. The following day I was sent home in an abnormal amount of pain. Three hours later I started vomiting blood and bile and felt faint. Emergency trip to the ER on a Saturday night to discover at 1am that the internal stitch from my rny was either broke or forgotten and my intestines had went inside of the muscle and was blocked off. I threw up inside the CT scan that night and recall lots of people surrounding me at the ct machine, placing its, holding a diffubulaotr and putting me on oxygen. They did emergency surgery and sedated me for a month. The bile had went into my lungs and caused multiple strands of pneumonia. I spent 2 and half months in the hospital recovering. I did loose weight the first six months. A total of 90 pounds. I also lost my hair, have permanently torn vocal chords. Six months post OP I received a very large bill for the original surgery because they lied to me when they said they had surgery approval from my insurance. read more

I feel like people only write reviews when its a bad experience but my experience overall was not bad at all. I do wish some things would change though. I wish the communication was better. I got a call from 3 or 4 different numbers and it seems like everyone lost track of what was being told to me. It also took about a month to get my surgery scheduled, and that was after i emailed the surgery scheduler because I could never get a hold of anyone when I called. Besides that Dr. Brian Long did a great job with my hernia repair. He explained how he did the procedure and overall made me feel really comfortable since it was my first time getting surgery. My recovery has been painless and I feel great. 5 stars to Dr Brian Long. I will recommend in the future. As far as the clinic, I give my 4 star rating because the communication could be a lot better. Other than that I have no other complaints. read more

This is the WORST clinic EVER!!! The staff is HORRIBLE! I have practically done everything myself!!! I have scheduled my own sleep study, set up my own psych eval, contacted my own insurance company for approval requirements, located and found my own dietitian and ALL without one singe staff members assistance! All they have done is submit my paperwork to the insurance company and they didn't even do THAT correctly! I have already figured out I am not going to get ANYTHING from them post surgery so I've set up my own network of support. If they can't get my surgery in December...I'm finding a new surgeon! I am also going to let my insurance company know my experience as well as the similar experiences of so many of the reviews! They were supposed to be a Center Of Excellence in order for my insurance company to use them...they are anything BUT! What a nightmare this process has been!!!! Not surprising it took 6 months for someone to respond to my post. I work in a medical office dealing with insurance and have for 15 years. I know the verification/pre-auth process is not done overnight. However, everything about the office was disorganized: from the first phone call (should have know better then), to check-in, to leaving the office and being told they are out of paperwork and would send it to me (I had to call back for paperwork to be sent). I know Doctors are busy but there was no care or concern for me and my journey. It was more about how soon to do you want to schedule your procedure. read more
