I'm ashamed to say that for as long as I've known about the existence of Nicholas Brooklyn, yesterday was my first time going inside. I was fresh out of the gym and in need of either a protein shake or natural juice. I knew Nicholas Brooklyn for selling juice outside in the summer. I DID NOT know that all the juices are made by a joyful, jovial soul who calls himself "Coconut Rob." He made a blend of spinach and passionfruit juice for me which he put in a bottle with the "Coconut Rob" logo (too cute.) I noticed a very new looking, shiny pot simmering in the juice area but the aroma caught me first. Coconut Rob was preparing a container of hot, vegan soup that was so fragrant and delicious smelling I had to take a container to go. My juice was really tasty but the SOUP!!! It was full of lentils and squash and topped with seasoned, fresh kale and a crushed garlic sauce. It will leave you begging for more with Oliver Twist hunger in your eyes. Nicholas Brooklyn also sells vitamins and supplements and candles for prayer, spiritual and devotional needs. They also host events that focus on topics that serve the needs of the Bed-Stuy community. I see that holistic wellness goddess, Queen Afua, will be a guest at Nicholas Brooklyn for an upcoming event. That's so dope. I feel like I unlocked the door to some real health and happiness by stepping into Nicholas Brooklyn. I'll be back again and again. read more

I had the best experience in this shop. They were so welcoming when I came in. They left me to my own devices, which was amazing because they have tons of oils to go through. Told me once I have everything ready I could pick whatever bottles I wanted and they would bottle it up for me. I absolutely also love the texture of the oils and how long it stays on the skin and the scent last all day. Body butters are amazing in here as well. I also loved getting bitters in the shop. A group of us sisters went into Nicholas yesterday, 7/9/20, after viewing the BLM mural painted outside Restoration Plaza in bright yellow. We were greeted by 2 men politely asking if they could help us. We were, of course, properly masked but noticed they were not. However, when we went to the counter to pay for a selected item, we were informed by the man at the cash register that he was not in a mask because "he doesn't wear that". We were now standing 3 ft away from him. This is totally unacceptable. Our community cannot be indifferent to the fundamental rights of each other. His response made a mockery of our history that Black Lives, do in fact, MATTER. read more

Wonderful establishment. I've been ordering online for years. I haven't been in person for a while. I contacted them during the pandemic about being diagnosed with pre-diabetes. The product they recommended worked & I've been ordering from them ever since. My cousin resides in the community & brought me some sage & other products last year. Popped in for Shea butter as I've needed to ramp up the moisture with all the hand washing going on due to coronavirus. I've been frequenting this business since the Flatbush & Fulton days but kinda fell back once they stopped selling the Shea moisture hair product I was buying exclusively from them. However I do pop in from time to time when strolling Fulton St and must say this place is still solid! Still reliable and trustworthy. Every Tuesday Nicholas has Healing Circles where you can come and release negative energy and take advantage of the massive array of spiritual guides in the store to help you explore your spirituality deeper. Their book collection and natural body/hair care collection is awesome. They also have a good collection of stones. I visited the store because a friend of mine was participating in an event here. I arrived a little early before the event but was immediately greeted by the store's team. The atmosphere was great and all around good vibes. They had a live DJ playing and many things to browse. The store has a huge variety of natural body butters, soaps, body and fragrance oils. There is also a nice collection of accessories, reading materials, jewelry, etc. All for great prices! The lady that helped me with my fragrance oils was super friendly and everyone was attentive. I originally came across this business a few years ago online when looking for Kwanzaa pieces, which I found, ordered, and was absolutely pleased with. I love this location. It's larger than the Harlem location. I also find the staff here to be more engaging and knowledgable. I went from buying Shea butter to coming for tarot readings and craft circles. They have a great selection of local products that include clothing and beauty to name a few. Although I can find some same items on amazon, prefer to support a local business where I can discuss the products with people who use the items and are responsible for ordering. read more

I did not know what to expect when I was coming to see a comedy show here. Comedy show inside a store? It totally worked! The store is huge and very intriguing. There's men's and women's clothing and accessories, like hats and backpacks. There's also a selection of books and random aromatherapy oils as well as beauty and hygiene products. My first impression was that there's got to be "420 related" items, which there were- Bob Marley memorabilia, incense, rolling papers, lighters, etc. The comedy show was set up in the front of the store with folding chairs to fit around 50 people. There's also plenty of standing room in the back. They turned off some of the lights, which totally changed the vibe of the store and made it feel more like a bar atmosphere. Every first and third Friday of the month, Dave Lester hosts a comedy show with about around 10 really funny comics! The show is called "WINE & CHEESIN". The best part? Free wine and hors d'ouvres! The show started at 10:00, but the doors opened early so people can start drinking and loosen up! The comics were great and they never ran out of drinks or food. Wow.. your store is amazing!! It's usually difficult for me to find all the products I need, so I find myself running from store to store. I was so impressed with the products in your store! Now all I have to do is make one stop and I can buy everything I need. I'm so thankful and appreciate that because it saves me so much time. And you know as they say, time is money! I purchased a few shirts, two dresses, incense, oils, and a necklace and earring set. I was also able to find a gift for my mother there and she's very difficult to shop for! She was so happy to receive the beautiful jewelry from Morocco.. Breathtaking! Not to mention, the staff at Nicholas is very helpful. I spent about 2 hours shopping and the clerk assisted me and answered all of my questions. He answered all of my questions and recommended some products that I wasn't aware of. The woman with the small afro was very disrespectful. At first walking into the store was delightful but i asked where mango butter was and she said they didn't have it. But why did i find it myself?! Then when i was wrapping up and done, I asked for my receipt. I did not hear her because she kept mumbling under her breath. I ask for the second time where is my receipt and she yells it is in my bag. Horrible customer service, she needs to be fired because she sucked at doing her job. This is a friendly store with a good variety of products. I love the selection of body and hair products. They also have candles, jewelry, clothing,hats and books. They also have health products, and monthly events which I have yet to check out! OK, so now as of last night, I have been to an event. And it was amazing! Lots of people, and a wonderful mix of ages, colors and identities! I was by myself and was totally at ease. It had a family type vibe. They also had various promotions. And $2 earrings,very nice! It seemed a bit too crowded and hectic to be shopping while I was there. I unfortunately had to leave before the end. The featured poet was amazing, but I don't know her name. She was from Portland. I was happy to find a place that had pretty much all of my ingredients for body butter under one roof. After making my purchases at the counter the owner place my purchases into the bag along with some flyers and an invite. She told me that she's inviting to a craft night for making waist beads. I was excited and I want to go and make something fun. I showed up to the event. When my husband dropped me off I was greeted at the door by the make workers informing me that it was a women's only event. That's fine!.... Because my husband wasn't coming to it. When I came in the place was really dark and smoky- no prob! Maybe it's incense burning. As I signed in i as told to join the circle they were mediating ---- what?!!! That's not what I signed up for that wasn't on the flyer. I old one of the ladies that I would not be joining in on the mediation - I'll just sit here quietly. When the mediation was over. We were told to write why we are here on a card- interesting!! After I read why I'm here. Which is to make waist beads as per the flyer - I was told to walk it over to the alter. ----- again, what the hell????!!! Literally! They gently pressure you with cheers and claps. I picked out beads and the. Was told that the colors have meaning " for the energy you want to invite"----- what?!!! This is too much!! When making the beads there were a couple of ladies there but one in particular " God bashing"--- uncomfortable!!!. We had a very brief exchange when I realized how use less the conversation was. At the end the leader of the group sprayed everyone with lavender spray. - which I believe left me with a rash the next day. Long story, short- this place has a lot of items in the store but be very aware of the event a that they advertise because their religious practices they force on people. You can believe what you want to believe. But don't try to lure and manipulate me into your rituals, practices and belief. read more

I needed a Kinara set for a Kwanzaa/New Years Party I was having. For some reason I waited until the last minute to buy one. The only place in the entire City of New York, that I thought might possibly have one was good 'ole Nicholas, formerly known as Nubian Heritage. I called them up and asked if I they carried a kinara set. The phone was answered by Trevor who told me that they had one at the Harlem store, he would get it and bring it back to Brooklyn so I could pick it up. What time will you be here he said. Five-fifteen I said. At 6:00 PM that evening, I walked out of the store with my new kinara set, and a couple of other things. Trevor and the cashier (who was so sweet) told me that many people had asked for the kinara set but were told, it couldn't be purchased because they were holding it for someone. I was so grateful that I was able to experience something that's practically gone extinct; great customer service. The best part was, I got the candles, candle holder, and cup/chalot for a very reasonable price. Much more reasonable than the prices sets like these usually sell for online. It is a haven for black culture and community.. There are books, music, clothing and cosmetic products, I personally go in for the scented oils love the quality and service.. I enjoyed my several visit to Nicholas Brooklyn because the owner is every pleasant & has a friendly personality. She is very helpful & friendly toward consumers. I used to participate in the yoga class & the price was resasonable with snacks afterwards. They do need time management though when it comes to planning for events because I and others had to wait longer than stated time for the preformers to start but when it was started it was so enjoyable. There is very nice jewelry & items in the store and it's very inexpensive. read more

The store at this location sells Nubian Heritage products but their actual name is "Nicholas". I love NH products and bought the Coconut and Papaya Hair Butter. When I got home, I found there were thousands of hard little white spheres throughout the product. They were dispersed throughout my hair too. I called the store to tell them and the clerk said they knew about the problem and "that's how they sent them back to us" but could not refund my money without speaking to a manager (who, of course, was not there). Since the product wasn't very expensive, I won't bother trying to take it back, but it sounds to me like this establishment knowingly sold me a defective product. The Nubian Heritage products are great so I will always buy them, but not from Nicholas. If you choose to do so, check your purchase VERY carefully before you leave. They have permanently lost my business because of how this was handled. read more
