I see him about every 3 months for my color, highlights, and long layers, and one of my favorite things about his work is how well everything grows out. Even when my roots start coming in, the color blends so naturally that my hair still looks fabulous and never feels like I'm overdue for an appointment. It's that timeless hair color and effortless, natural looking hair that I really love. I get so many compliments, and considering how much we lighten my dark hair, I'm always amazed that it never feels dry or brittle. Nikko is very gentle with the processing and really understands Asian hair and how to achieve lighter tones without sacrificing the health of your hair. He works with you throughout the process to get the results you want and also gives wonderful advice on keeping your hair healthy between appointments, like not blow drying with high heat every day, lowering the temperature on your flat iron, and always using a leave in conditioner with heat protectant. Nikko is truly talented at what he does, and I honestly wouldn't trust anyone else with my hair. If you have Asian hair and want blonde highlights, long layers haircut, and natural looking color that grows out seamlessly, he's the best!!

He has told me that the success of his practice is based on not just his hair-cutting but the psychological therapy that he doles out alongside it. It's true that he often asked what's happening in the neighborhood, and I asked him the same. But the last time he just, incredibly, insulted me. How he expects to get away with this sort of behavior I have no idea. I'm 85 and don't have a lot of hair to cut, truth be told. But I still tip every 4 weeks. This fellow also speeds things along at a quick march while you are there. (This may be because he is there only three days a week.) A service provider telling an elderly patron to take off his glasses and "hasten" to the shampoo bowl is disrespectful. He seems to see himself as the commander and you as the subordinate. I have patronized many businesses in my life, here and abroad. I have never been treated with such misplaced arrogance. If you are looking for a simple haircut, look elsewhere. If you want to be insulted and "analyzed" by someone with no credentials to do that, this is the place for you. As for me, I have found a nearby stylist who gives me a better haircut, and no insults.

The one star goes to the guy I talked to on the phone who gave me a necessary refund. He was polite, apologetic and didn't hesitate to ensure I was refunded immediately. My boyfriend and I were in the area this past weekend going to Kid Robot, and since this place was right next door, we both decided it was a good time to get a trim and the price was good enough to justify it. His haircut came out alright, though a bit shorter than he asked for. Mine, however... there are no words to describe what has been done to my hair. My grandfather has been a barber for over 35 years in Corte Madera, so I know a bad haircut when I see one. Before this, I had never had such a bad experience. My hair was at my shoulders, and the only thing I asked for was light layering on the sides to give me some more volume. I even found a picture in their hairstyle book that looked exactly like my hair but with extra volume and shorter bangs. I specifically told the older woman who sat me in her chair to NOT cut anything from the bottom because I was growing my hair out. The first thing she did was cut 3 inches off, so the hair went up to my ears. I remarked, saying I asked her not to do that, and her complacent response was "Oh well, we have to even it out now". For the next five minutes, I watched in horror as her "evening things out" turned into her razor-cutting my hair so much that I look like the lead character from "Single White Female". I told her that the haircut looked absolutely nothing like the picture, and she snottily said "It'll look like that in a few months". I left quickly, and called the shop to get my refund on my way to a wig store to cover up the atrocity. I've never had to write a bad review before, so I hate having to do so. But after reading the similar bad reviews on here and other places, all I have to say is: some times it's worth paying $40 for a good haircut as opposed to $50 for a wig. read more

used to get my hair cut here often but this last time, a new girl made my life miserable. i came to get a hair cut for a new professional headshot. she basically shaved all the hair on the sides and back and the top was lopsided and way too long. it looked so bad that i had to cancel my headshot photo shoot to wait for this horrible haircut to grow out. cant even get a Basic mens haircut right. by the way, i did not see any of the combs or scissors or razors get washed or soaked between clients. i usually see combs soaking in a blue liquid sanitizer, but not here. after my cut, i developed the worst rash on my ear and neck. read more
