My cut was just fine but there is a problem with how you book service. It's a bit bait and switch. I'm a first time customer and I booked online with Ismael who it seems is the owner. Received confirmation and text reminder. When I showed up and introduced myself he simply brushed me off to another barber. No explanation, just this person is going to cut your hair. She did a wonderful job but it wasn't like he was overbooked since he just sat in his chair and played on his phone the entire time. You only get one chance to make a first impression. I left with the impression I was an inconvenient $50 haircut and not a potential $1,000 yearlong customer opportunity. Suggestions. If you don't have any intention of having the person booked cut someone's hair, acknowledge that in the email or text confirmation. And when a new customer arrives, greet them as a new customer and with apologies ask if it's ok for someone else to cut their hair. You could also update your website so that you can book your appointment with the actual person who will be cutting your hair. It's about managing expectations and delighting new customers. read more

Omigosh. These folks are extra super nice. Two experiences so far. Healing cuts indeed. Read on. (1) After growing my hair out for rheee years, I went in for a trim. Which turned into a scalp massage and blow out that left my hair so glossy. You know that scene in The Devil Wears Prada where frumpy Anne Hathaway gets the makeover and the hair toss goes as a slowmo? It looked like that. (2) while cutting about a ton off hair off for a new long look, the stylist said, "thank you for letting me cut you beautiful hair." Healing cuts indeed. I teared up a little. Keeping appointments is essential! I was pushed aside for the second time from an appointment with Ismael last week. The first time he was cutting someone's hair when I came to my scheduled appointment. Twenty minutes later, he was finished with the gentleman. He never apologized for being late. Instead, he asked if another stylist could shampoo and do the final touches so he could start his next appointment on time. I agreed because I felt that I had little choice. The stylists did a good job, so I have no complaints there. However, I struggled when I saw the nice-looking young man sitting in Ismael's chair. I was disgusted with the idea that he thought it was better to start his appointment on time instead of finishing with me. The second time, Ismael told me he had an emergency and said he would have someone else cut my hair. I was not really given an option. The emergency was a handsome young man (notice the trend here) who walked in before me. The gentleman who cut my hair did a good job and was friendly. It was his first day in the shop. Again, I have no complaints about his work. I believe his name is Jason. This saddens me because I like the service at Healing Cuts. Shampoo, hot towel, neck massage, and beverage are very nice touches, especially for a $45 haircut. Ismael has a contagious energy and is very charming. However, my time is important, so I make appointments and ask that they be kept. I think that is only fair. read more

One the best cuts services I have experienced! I went in with the same basic ask I ask every barber for my hair, but Ismael said "If you let me use the scissors, I can make it much better for you". Glad I said yes. Ismael was taking his craft like an artist creating his painting. At at the end I enjoyed as much the result as being the witness of an artist enjoying his thing. I was greeted by a different barber than I booked. I can understand that things may come up, but it would have been courteous to have provided a message ahead of time, especially since I'm giving this place a first try. It felt rude if they thought it was okay to do so to a first timer. Compared to past barber experiences, the fade is low effort and not as well done. What stood out to me was that clippers were used to take length off from the top, as opposed to the more precise use of scissors. That's not something I expect from an experienced barber. While it was not a horrendous haircut, the overall experience is lacking. I would go elsewhere for a better haircut that has more care put into it. read more

I just can't believe the lack of skill, inability to follow instructions, and the utter absence of aesthetic sense at this so called hairsalon. Called in for a last minute haircut for my boyfriend before we had to go to a WEDDING and I couldn't have sounded more like a broken record when I repeatedly said that his hair needed to stay as long as possible at the top. So my boyfriend showed pictures to the hair stylist (Ishmael), explained that he wants length as much as possible at the top, and apparently had a long consultation before getting the cut. And obviously, nothing helped, his hair is now not only short as possible at the top, but has an uneven pattern that sticks out like a broken down bird's nest. Please have some integrity in your work if you're charging people for this kind of atrocity or maybe just plain stop. This "haircut" should've been free and come with an apology letter. Update: There are pimples on his head now, commonly happens when haircut equipment is not cleaned properly or regularly. Literally spreading diseases during Covid. read more

I asked him to realign my undercut and he gave me a nice fade ! Ismael's work is absolute magic and made me feel super comfortable while I was there. i trusted him to just realign my terrible hairline the last person messed up on. his shop is cozy and clean. I have been a client of Julie's for over 15 years, following her from Nice Cuts to Healing Cuts. I haven't seen her for the past 8 months or so because I wasn't in the city, however, now that I'm back, I stopped by Healing Cuts to get a trim from my old friend! When I walked in, the tall guy in the chair closest to the front window asked if I needed a cut. I asked if Julie was working. He advised me that she doesn't work there anymore. I asked him if he could tell me where she had moved to. He lied to my face with the response, "No. We all don't know where she's gone to, but there are several other great people here who can give you a great cut." I thanked him politely and left. No one touches my hair except Julie. No matter how great they may be. I decided to take a scooter home, which luckily happened to be in front of Nice Cuts. Thinking perhaps she moved back there, I popped my head in & asked if Julie was back. I was advised SHE OPENED HER OWN BUSINESS!!!!! It's called U-niq cuts and is in the same location as Every Six Weeks had been for decades on Noe Street across from Fitness SF. It isn't officially open just yet. I guess she is having a soft opening right now, but still accepting clients (thankfully she was able to squeeze me in early next week!!) Im SO happy I found her! Once you build trust with someone (especially with your hair), you want to stay with them. A quick note to the guy in the first chair at the window: had you been truthful & told me the truth. That she opened her own business, but isn't officially opened yet, I probably would've come in for a quick trim. But now that I know you all knew that she left to open her own business. That you lied to my face. How can I trust you to be honest when cutting my hair??!!? Nobody likes to be lied to. Especially a bold faced lie to try & steal business from a former coworker, AND during the holidays!! I will forever avoid Healing Cuts because of this. Everyone is incredibly friendly and the service is top notch including little details like a hot face towel and massage chair when they rinse/shampoo your hair. The store is also really charming with a lot of natural light in the heart of Castro. I've been coming to my regular stylest, Jesus for the past two years and he has never once disappointed.
