DO NOT GO HERE! BAR DAMAGES PERSONAL PROPERTY! We were at the bar earlier in the night and decided to go back 30 min later. We went to the same bouncer that let us in previously. My 23 yr old friend's ID WAS TAKEN, AGGRESSIVELY BENT, AND BROKEN. He claimed he believed the ID was fake and put it in his pocket. She asked to speak with the manager and scan her ID. Upon asking for the police the bouncer gave her ID back. The manager Anette arrived where they could not produce a scanner. Anette then said to my friend who was visibly upset "look at you If you were actually 23 you wouldn't be crying." She the said since we wanted she would call her friend at the police precinct. Upon arrive she got into to cops car and talked with them. They then left shortly after without talking to us. We then left shortly after. This could have been avoided if the bar had a ID scanner. In addition the the EMOTIONAL DISTRESS she now HAS TO PAY FOR A NEW ID which is a minimum of $20. DO NOT GO HERE. read more

After bringing attention to this within our group of friends, we have been informed that this has happened to multiple other people. Worst bar in New York, don't come here!! My friends and I came here last night around 10pm and were let in with no problem. We came back two hours later and the bouncer outside was extremely aggressive, dismissive, and not only bent but completely broke the ID of my friend who is over 21 years of age. The bouncer only gave back the destroyed ID to my friend after she threatened to call the cops on him. The whole issue could've been resolved had Niagara used an ID scanner. It was my first time in NYC and I was trying to find some trouble out on Avenue A but keep the overhead low. Went here looking to run into Ryan Adams or maybe Jesse Malin but instead it was just a few hipsters and a tinder date gone sour in the corner! Corner joint straight to the point bar with tables, the doorman was pretty persistent considering there were 2 people in the joint, relax son! I've been to Niagara so many times I've lost count. There's a myriad of 1 star ratings and I totally get why. You have to come here prepared and at the correct time. There's a system to having a good night at Niagara. You come with a group of friends. 3-8+ You show up on a Thursday or Friday around 8/9:30pm. You should up after having drinks elsewhere. You secure the area in the back, my favourite the back right corner right by the DJ. You secure your dancing area and have some people in the group that don't like to dance save the area, drink and chill. While the others go HAM on the tiny ass stage. Niagara is fun, but it's not the best. If I could take the DJ and move him to Black Rose (remember that bar?) it would be ideal. Service can be slow in the front. Don't open a tab, it'll take years to close out. Try to get drinks from the bartender in the back, who is usually a hundred times nicer than the bartender in the front. The bouncers can be dicks, come early so you don't have to deal with them. Also, don't do coke in the bathroom. read more

We walked 6 minutes in the rain to come to this bar. Based off the photos it looked like a good time. It was was really slow. Only a handful of people. Likely due to it raining. We were going to order a drink and leave because we made the effort. After 3 minutes 2 women bartenders came up and told us to order or get out. I get they're worried that people are using is as a spot to get shelter from the rain but it was so rude that we decided to leave. When I was living in the city and even after I moved away and would come back to visit, my friends and I would always end up in Niagara after a night of drinking. It was an awesome place- a bar with good service and cheap drinks, a room further in the bar with some tables and a photo booth, and then the stairs which would take you down into a room which one magazine called the "most impromptu dance party in the city." Good times. Attached to the downstairs dance room was another room with a bar. I can't remember how many a drunken evening I spent in Niagara. Imagine my dismay last weekend when I returned to Niagara with some friends after not having been there for about 1.5 years. When I walked into the room past the main bar to go downstairs I realized the stairway was closed off. The worker in the room informed me that to get to the downstairs room I had to leave Niagara and enter from 7th. I did so and instead of finding the "most impromptu dance party in the city" I found some new LAME-ASS bar. Talk about feeling like I was punched in the nuts. No dance floor anywhere to be found downstairs. Not to worry though, the dance party has been moved to the former room past the main bar which formerly housed the photo booth. The DJ was spinning old 80s songs and the room was packed and everyone was getting down. It was a good time, just like Niagara was before the renovation. In fact, I had a bit too much Tequila and ended up puking on the streets of the Lower East Side. Moral of the story: Niagara has changed. But it is still a great time. read more

The first time we came for the free friday night comedy show was the first day of spring and it was p-r-e-t-t-y bad. We went again this past friday (not realizing at first that we were going to the same place) and were very pleasantly surprised. There was only one comedian that was there from the last time and he was the co-host so he didn't do a full set. He also only repeated (along with the host) only like 2 or 3 jokes from the last time, so it wasn't as repetitive as we feared. The rest of the comedians were pretty darn good - there was a snl writer, a guy from Philadelphia, and some other people who were actually pretty funny! There were also a handful of women, which is nice since lots of shows are a bro-fest. The show takes place in the back room of the bar (it's really tight in there with only 4 tables - 2 that seat two, and two that seat four), and 2 long couches along the side walls. If you don't come early enough to snag those seats you can stand in the middle and back of the room, but it gets cramped because there's a dj booth setup (apparently it turns into a party after the comedy show). read more

I was served immediately and also acknowledged immediately when I got in. I came with a friend mainly for a free comedy show with four comedians. I was also excited to try their drinks. The bartender was really sweet and made me two deliciously strong margaritas. I thought the comedy show was actually really funny... I say "actually" because I was not sure what to expect. I have attended comedy shows that were legitimate train wrecks within the first five minutes. I thought this show was fun and interactive. Of course, there were moments when all of the comedians pushed the envelope with their material + humor but I had a fun time, and the alcohol made it better. I recommend this bar wholeheartedly! I am not surprised to read recent reviews here with similar complaints to mine. On a recent girls trip to NYC, we came upon this bar. We sat in the outside kiosk area & ordered drinks & food. Later I went inside to use the restroom & decided to linger a bit & then order one last drink at the bar since my friends were done drinking outside. As I started to walk outside with my glass of wine the blonde manager told me that I couldn't bring it outside. When I asked why she said "rules are rules and if you're not going to follow them then you're going to have to leave" . I politely asked if they could put the drink in a plastic cup (like they were serving outside) and she again told me no and that if I continued to argue she would have to throw me out. I informed her that perhaps the rule should be posted so other patrons don't make the same mistake as me. I placed my full glass of wine on the bar (i was not going to chug it!) & started to leave when she then accused me of calling her a "c**t" (a word I have never used in my 50 years of life) & other choice words. I was truly shocked as I was super polite up to this point and never raised my voice . As I proceeded outside to join my friends she continued to harass me and follow me & then started taking pictures of my friends and I sitting at our table. Staff was extremely rude and who I assume was the manager physically pushed me for no reason 3 times! I went with a big group of boys and girls and half of them got in no problem but when I got up to go in the lady I'm guessing was the manager came up to the bouncer and whispered in his ear. Dude this place was traumatizing. Insanely overcrowded, people passing out, pushing shoving, and shouting, 30 mins to get from one side of the room to the other. I checked my coat and ahen u went to retrieve it the woman stated it was not there, to which I confirmed by looking with my phones flashlight. After making the deadly traverse back outside I was quite pussed off. I finally built up the courage to go back in for my jacket because I KNEW it was in there. The bouncer outside gave me a hard time, trying to make me pay to get back in because they didn't stamp us or make us pay on the first time going in. Respect to the woman who was doing the stamping because she understood and let me slide. Now on the third trip inside, I finally made it through the crowd of teenagers up to the coat check to where I find.... The coat check employee wiping the counter full of beer with my mf jacket. All that, and she was using my jacket as a damn rag. Beyond pissed off, yet triumphant, I marched out of there passed the unconscious children and out to the world. I went with some girlfriends around midnight. While they stood outside smoking and chatting I went inside to use the bathroom. At first I didn't notice the line, oops, my bad. This apparently enraged the bouncer who pushed me. I fell down a small flight of stairs. When I stood up, he pushed me again. I stood again an he pushed me for a third time. Until, terrified and in shock I left the bar. Today, I returned, seeking an apology from the manager and the bouncer. Instead the manager made claims as to what transpired. Claims that aren't true, and even if they were true (he claims I said some not nice things to the bouncer) they are not grounds to push me. Certainly not repeatedly. He promised I would get no apology from this ex cop of a bouncer. So don't support Niagara. Their bouncers attack their patrons instead of protecting them and the management takes no responsibility. I wasn't going to post anything on here until I read some reviews and saw that others had similar experiences. Went in on Saturday night to have a few drinks. This was my first stop of the night, which is important to note to avoid the assumption that this was an alcohol-induced situation. Handed my ID to the doorman and walked inside. I stopped about 5 feet into the bar to wait for the people I was with to get in. While waiting, somebody shoved me out of the way to walk by(not a bump, arms fully extended.) At first I thought it was one of my friends messing with me so I turned to see who it was. When I saw it wasn't somebody I knew I asked what their problem was. The guy was about 6'1" with dark hair. His response was telling me to get out of his "f*@#ing way." I asked what his problem was, thinking he was just some drunk guy who had a few too many. At that point he put his finger in my face and tole me, VERBATUM, "shut the f*#@ up, this is MY BAR." My friend saw this going on and stepped in to defuse the situation. The guy walked away. We decided to leave immediately. If this was HIS bar, we weren't going to give them a dime. When we got outside I asked the bouncer if that was the owner. He told me the owner wasn't there and that that guy was the bartender. Another reason I wouldn't have posted on here is if I wasn't POSITIVE that that guy worked there. However, the bouncer confirmed that it was in fact the bartender. To be honest, there was a pretty good crowd and it looked like a cool spot when we walked in. That said, knowing that they employ people that feel a sense of entitlement at an establishment which their employed to accost and even physically shove patrons out of their way is reason enough for me to never return. I'm hoping the bouncer brought this to management's attention and that it was addressed with the bartender, I highly doubt it though. read more

Thirsty Thursday is a special night every week. People gather because getting through Friday is WAY easier even when hungover than say, drinking on a Monday night and having to make it four more days. I went to taco dinner with some friends and we decided in the spirit of the Thursday night holiday, we might as well have a nightcap. Niagara was across the street, so we let ourselves in because it was empty enough to find a spot to all stand together near the bar. Almost all the seats at the bar were taken, by what looked like regulars. Cool. Other than those in seats, it was completely empty at 9PM. We ordered a round from the not unfriendly bartender. We stood around drinking, and no one else came into the bar the entire time we were there. A group of four did exit at some point though. After about a half hour, some woman throws herself through the doors like a bat out of hell. She jogs over to the bar, turns the music up so loud it was deafening, grabs a few things from behind the bar and slings a few drinks. We were surprised the music was thrown up as loud as it was. It gave me an instant headache. Especially for such a mellow, empty bar on a Thursday night. I mean if there were twelve people there that would be a lot. We still had some drinking left to do, so we soldiered on. It's Thursday night! If you can't beat 'em, join 'em. Amiright? But it was just too loud. We were literally shouting and screaming over the absurdly loud music. I'm not that old. I don't mind loud places. My regular inside voice is loud by most people's standards. It was also bizarre that this woman came running in, turned up the volume as loud as it could go, made a few drinks and then....left. With her coat. I sort of assumed she went out to smoke or something, but after 20 minutes passed and she didn't return, one in our party went up to the bar and said "Now that she's gone, would it be possible to turn the music down a little?" He had to shout this to be sure the bartender heard him. The bartender shouted back "Yeah, I guess not!" and turned his back on us. You would think such a divey, dirty bar with virtually no one in it would be okay, you know, adjusting the volume just enough so the few and brave who were there would stick around. We put our drinks on the bar and walked out. I will never, ever return. Ever. I don't say that lightly. I like divey places, this is near my apartment, near restaurants I frequent often. But to cater to the woman who ruined the bar for everyone else and then left? No. Just...no. There are so many great bars in the area. Skip Niagara. HARD PASS. read more

Let me start by saying their stand-up on Saturday nights is awesome! We went to their show a few times and each time we take a picture in their 'famous' photobooth. The last time we went we put a $20.00 bill the machine expecting $15.00 back. (Please take note that we had been drinking at this bar for hours at this point). We did not get money back from their machine. So we asked the manager what we should do since we had no intention of spending $20.00 of crappy pictures since we had already spent $100.00+ on alcohol for the night. (PS: Fireball shots are $10.00 here. I have NEVER paid that much for a crappy fireball, which was the same price as my friend's Jack Daniels shot.) She told us we had to call the owner of the machine. I politely asked if the manager could call them and then we could come collect our money tomorrow, and could we leave her our information. She went to go get a piece of paper to write down our information and apparently decided we were "stupid bitches" while she was gone. She said, "I dont know why anyone would put a $20.00 bill in there". Since there were no postings that said $5.00 or less why would we assume we couldn't use a $20?? Nothing told us that we would not get our change if we did not put the exact amount in, and since this was our third time we all felt really comfortable using that amount of money and had trust that this bar would not rip us off. WELL.... the manager was incredibly rude to us and called us "stupid Sluts". We were all really fired up at this point so we asked to see the owner or another manager so she finally decided to just give us our $15.00 back. So she did and we left with a horrible taste in our mouth. AGAIN, the comedy show at this bar is amazing and totally worth your time, however I beg you not to give this establishment a dime. I am a small business owner and a young one at that-- the most important thing is what people think of your business. Well, Niagara is either a terrible business or employs terrible people who are not worried about their bar's public opinion. The GM is such an asshole. Very rude and unprofessional. Me and my business partners were in East Village yesterday around 6pm, so we saw a few empty tables outside of this place and decided to have just a quick juice or soda. Everything went well, nice waitress, served us the drinks, in about 25 min I asked for the check, paid it with good tip, and then the fun part began. Some really weird looking person come to us and asked us to leave immediately. My colleague was on the phone, and I was finishing my drink, so I asked for a few minutes, so finish the call and the drink. But this person completely ignored us, moved our table from us, took the chairs away, while we were still sitting, and then just stood right next to my friend, without any face mask, lifting his hands up and pushing the guy to get out. I asked whats going on , and what was the problem, and if I can speak to the GM - the answer was "I'm a general manager, and you have to get out". Nothing was explained, some other costumers took our seat and the table, and this "GM" just stepped on the corner and started to smoke. Is this a normal practice at this place to kick it's costumers like this? Again, we had no alcohol, were super quiet, polite, left 20% tip, and at the end we were kicked out in front of other people. I am disgusted by this place of "business". Went here on Saturday evening (3/5/2023) with friends for a drink as part of our night out in NYC. There was a bartender with a beard and long hair who appeared under the influence. He charged me $37 for two drinks when I ordered four. I let him know that he missed the other two drinks I ordered so after making them for me he charged another $74 on top of the $37 I already paid. When confronting him on this error, a little short girl behind the bar jumped on her stool, and flashed a light in my eye. They told the female manager working the door that I was being disrespectful. They did not even allow me to explain my case and told us we had to leave. All in all I was out $100+ Dollars and did not even get to have one drink. Ironically, the only person empathetic about the situation was the bouncer.
