The bus!

Niagara Fun Tours offers an amazing Summer Niagara Wine Tour. This tour is normally $109 C but I got an awesome Living Social deal for $39 C per person (plus tip of course)! This tour was well worth it in my opinion, very fun and extremely educational for a wine noob like myself. Our tour guide Joe was quite the character and made for a great day. I read reviews and the website prior to going but was still a bit skeptical on spending 5 hours with a tour group checking on vineyards. We were picked up at the Fallsview Casino at 1115 am, the exact time predicted on their pickup schedule. We spent the next 45 minutes picking up others for the tour which kind of bummed me out. I was feeling like the tour wouldn't be all that fun with all this driving around but I did enjoy seeing some spots along the drive. Joe was great about giving history and background all along the way. The bus was super cute and comfy with some storage space above the seats. Each vineyard gave us at least 3 samples of various reds, whites and the coveted Canada specialty and my personal favorite, Ice Wine. Sugary and sweet in my mouth, Mmmm! Now I've made more detailed entries on each of these vineyards but here's the run down: Stop 1 - Reif Estate Winery - Gorgeous grounds, tasting of a white, red & ice wine. Stop 2 - Kurtz Orchards - Again absolutely beautiful scenery outdoors with a huge fish pond, fantastic food for lunches and tons of goodies for purchase at their market. Stop 3 - Joseph's Estate Winery - Interesting tour of the wine making process, sit down, huge tasting room with snacks to boot! Stop 4 - Konzelmann Estate Winery - Hilarious and highly informative gentleman handling our wine tasting. He gave us four samples OoOo and all were just great. Beautiful views from their balcony! Stop 5 - Diamond Estate Wines - Huge mass producing winery with huge outdoor tents for tastings. My least favorite of the stops as the person conducting the tasting was the least informed, possibly a new employee, and I wasn't a big fan of doing the tasting outdoors in 85 degree heat. I don't know if it was the setting or actually the wines but it was my least favorite stop on the trip. Stop 6 - Caroline Cellars - Fantastic staff! Super friendly, super helpful in making recommendations, plus you get to PICK your three samples! They hand you a description sheet and let you pick what you want while giving extremely valuable advice. They have the *best* ice wine I had the entire day. Who knew Niagara Falls had such a bustling wine scene? I absolutely did not and I feel like we didn't even go to a fraction of the vineyards! The tour lasted until 530 pm! After our fourth vineyard (the tour promises 4 vineyards + the Marketplace for lunch), Joe asked if we all wanted to stop by one last stop and we were all in! A great bonus stop and the extra stop was my favorite along the journey. $39 for a 6 hours and 15 minutes tour that was fantastic --- best deal I've had in quite some time! I HIGHLY recommend this tour to others!

What a fun and different Sunday! Went with my boyfriend on September 20, we had a 2x1 Groupon. The bus picked us up at the Cineplex Odeon (convenient location and free parking) right on time. We got an awesome pair of tour guide and driver, Mac and Nancy, sweet, funny and very knowledgeable of the area and everything around wine. They took us to four wineries and a chocolate factory, the whole tour took about 7 hours! But it's not tedious at all, time flew by. We went to: Reif - 3 tastings Konselmann - 4 tastings and by far the best of the four wineries we visited! They gave us a small tour of the vineyard and the facilities. Palatine Hills - 2 tastings (I did an additional tasting for $1) Diamond - 4 tastings After Reif our second stop was a nice lunch at Kurtz, you buy a lunchbox that consists of a sandwich (on the gourmet side), a side of cherry tomatoes, baby carrots, cucumbers and a leaf of romaine (locally grown I presume), an apple, a cookie and a bottle of water, $12.95 plus tax. The chocolate factory at the end was my least favourite part, but I had my share of samples, mostly chocolate covered walnuts and peanuts. There was another tour inside when we got there so the store was very busy and we had to stay there a little too long for my liking. All in all great experience, awesome tour, would definitely recommend it.

Took this tour on my birthday. IT WAS AWESOME! JOE was super!!! I highly recommend booking this tour if u r planning a trip to Niagara falls

I've been on quite a few wine tours over the years, and it does take a certain personality to be able to do it well - but Rich was able to entertain AND be personable. He was professional AND endearing. He was always engaged in what we thought of each stop, and his relationship with the people at the breweries/distilleries/wineries seemed genuine. And whether it was him or just the smaller size, It honestly felt like we were treated better, being a part of Rich's group, then being in a group of 50 coming off a tour bus.   The stops were all great. I had some reservations about a few, but was honestly able to find something I loved at each location. Not to mention, the price is extremely competitive with all of the other tours I was researching. The van we were in was even fancy and brand new. If you're looking for something just a little different than your standard wine tour, I cannot recommend them enough.

Cellar Door offers 3 types of tours - lunch, dinner and bachelorette/ special occasions tours. The tour also offers pickup from your hotel or location of choice (within the Niagara region), and my husband and I got picked up at the Outlet Collection of Niagara at 10:30am and was dropped by off around 5pm. I know the website says that the lunch tour is about 4 hours, but that probably didn't include the travel or pickup/ drop off times. We were a small group of 8 and the spacious van with its high ceilings can easily accommodate twice that many people. In fact, the day before, they had 2 vans out for a group of over 30 people. Our drive Tim was kind and informative. He gave us info about the surrounding area, told us about how grapes are harvested and answered any questions that we had. He offered his hand to those who needed help getting on and off the hand. There were umbrellas in the van if we needed them and bottled water to keep us hydrated. I have a feeling that Tim knew more about the wine, wine making process and about the different wineries than the people who actually served us at the wine tastings. We were at our first winery around 11am and everyone was ready to get their drink on. You cannot pick with winery the group gets to visit - Cellar Door will arrange all that and as Tim said, they like to support the little guys (as the larger wineries sell their wines at the LCBO). The 4 wineries that we visited are as follows: Marynissen Estates, Bella Terra (very pretty setup inside, see posted pictures), Pilliteri (mid-sized winery) and Riverview. At each winery tasting, we were given 4 samples - white, red, sometimes a rose, then were always finished off with a red or white ice wine (my favourite part of the tasting). I like my wines on the sweeter side, so don't be scared to speak up and the server can accommodate to your pallet. I am aging myself now, but I remember when wine tastings at Niagara-on-the-Lake used to be complimentary, as long you purchase the wine. Nowadays, the going rate is $20 for 4 samples. Some wineries were more generous with their pours, others were all over the place (one glass had more than the other). Some servers were more animated and provided more information compared to others who ran away as soon as they poured you the wine. My ranking from the best overall experience (customer service plus wine) are: 1. Bella Terra, 2. Pilliteri, 3. Marynissen, 4. Riverview. I almost forgot to mentioned that with the lunch tour, you can a very very small sample of cheese, salami and olives at our second stop (Bella Terra), then a large stone baked pizza to share between people at Pilliteri. The pizza was excellent that there were probably 10 varieties to choose from. You can walk directly to Barrelhead and other from their menu without having to be on a winery tour or have an interest in wine. My husband and I easily finished the prosciutto and mushroom pizza, the crust was very thin. If I'm ever in the area again, I will definitely stop by to check out the other items on their menu. Pilliteri also sold baskets of grapes, honey, jams, and maple syrup - perfect to take home or gift as souvenirs. So there you have it, a 5-star review for Tim, I mean, Cellar Door tour. At $159 per person (transportation, 4 winery tours, mini cheese/ham sample, pizza), it is quite a steal if you want to just sit back and let someone else do the driving.

Our guide Tim picked us up at the Fallsview Casino, which was convenient for us, before we picked up one more group of 2. The small group of us (4 plus Tim) was just the right size. Tim was very knowedgeable both about wine and the Niagra region. He took the time to get to know each of us and what tastes were like in wine. We stopped at 4 wineries (all were equally delicious, although I'd have to say my favorite was the red Ice Wine from Vineland) and each time Tim brought us inside, introduced us to the staff, and helped offer suggestions based on what he had learned about us. We also learned the proper way to taste at our very first stop. This was a welcome change from other tours we have done in the past where the tour bus simply stops in the parking lot while you go inside, sample, then come out when you are ready to leave. This was much more personable and made for an excellent tour experience. In addition to the 4 wineries we stopped at the Upper Canada Cheese company to sample their fine cheeses, as well as stopped mid-day in Jordan Village for lunch. The tour was well structured and you had plenty of time to shop after each tasting as well if you wanted to (although none of the wineries/staff were pushy in any way whatsoever.) Overall it was a great day, great experience, and I would certainly consider other future tours with Discovery.

This is a CAN'T MISS experience! I guarantee the first question that your friends will ask you…read moreafter your Niagara Falls vacation will be - "did you ride the boat?" Boarding experience was efficient. They have attendants to usher you into one of several elevators. Then a short walk down to the platform while you wait for one of two boats so the wait is not long. Red ponchos given to you which are complimentary. PRO TIP: you'll get the best pictures if you're lucky enough to be able to get a spot on the upper deck near the railing. We were so lucky to be "cut off" from the line ahead of us for one boat and had to wait for the next boat, which turned out to be excellent for us. I wonder if you can request to wait if it looks like you're going to be the last ones on a boat. Surely the last in line will be towards the back of the boat or on the lower deck. But even if that's you, don't be worried - the boat sails in, and then turns around to go out. So even if you are in the back, there will be an opportunity for a picture. No announcements from the captain. No demonstration of putting on life jackets or at least told where they are located. Any boat tour I've done in the US would typically have something like this. Guess it's different in Canada. Everyone loaded, the boat just goes. And what a spectacular view. Take your family pictures as you are getting close, because after a certain point, you will feel the power of the falls. Eventually all you'll be able to see is mist. And it will feel like you're caught in a rain storm. The crowd all yells, laughs, and screams in excited unison! At some point, you could even say you're just trying to survive. You'll be lucky if the poncho hood stays on your head and that it covers both of your arms. Our hats were soaked and shoes were drenched, but we had so much fun! Definitely an experience that my kids will remember for their lifetime! Highly recommend!

Tasted like it had been boiled for hours then sprayed with grill marks. Simply awful. The one and only bite I took was already half way down my throat when I realized I wanted to get as far away from it as possible. That out of the way... Everything else was a charm! I boarded Niagara City Cruises with the confidence of someone who had never seen Niagara Falls and assumed the complimentary red poncho would keep me dry. Wrong. We got absolutely blasted by the falls! It was spectacular fun! The experience began innocently enough. The falls looked beautiful from a distance. People were smiling. Birds were flying. Families were taking photos. Then the boat moved closer and nature abruptly decided that everyone on board needed a shower. Literally thousands of gallons of water a second are crashing from the sky. The poncho performed admirably if its job was protecting approximately 60 percent of my body. My hair and face were soaked. My pant legs and shoes were drenched. My poncho kept bellowing in the wind. I looked around at one point and I saw that this was everyone's story. The closer we got to the falls, the less we could see. The magnificent view slowly transformed into a white wall of mist, wind and life choices. Conversations became impossible. Communication was reduced to pointing, yelling and laughing. The power is overwhelming. The noise is deafening. The mist is relentless. The memory is unforgettable. Yes, it was incredible and I wish to have this experience -- without the hot dog -- all over again!
