Bean soup that came with the Lamb Quzi
Jonathan Z.

LOVED the food at this spot. Came in for the SD Restaurant Week deal for $35 for a 3 course (appetizer, entree, dessert). They have a pretty solid list of options of which we ordered: Appetizer: -Flame grilled Shrimp: 2 pieces, pretty large sized, nicely seasoned, and a bit of heat, served with grilled lemon and tzatziki with cucumber chunks. Wish there was more! -Ney Mediterranean salad: olives, parsley, cucumber, red onions, tomatoes, peppers (not spicy) and two big blocks of feta. A fresh contrast from the shrimp Entrees: -Chicken Tikka: huge portion with rice, tomatoes, delicious pickled cabbage and radish, grilled tomato and spicy pepper. Came with a side of garlic spread. Chicken was juicy and flavorful and the rice had raisins and almonds -Lamb Quzi: lamb shank on the bone, pickled veggies, fresh onion slices, grilled tomato and spicy pepper, all atop delicious rice with raisins and almonds. This was also served with a side of white bean soup Dessert: We each got two pieces of their delicious pistachio baklava It's super clean inside and they were playing Sia, Rihanna, and other pop faves from the 2000's. Service was pretty quick and there was only one server. 3% credit card charge fee, and still working on their beer and wine license but they do have a good selection of mocktails and 0.0 Heineken. Pretty big entree portions so we had plenty to take home for a second meal each. Def don't sleep on this spot right next to the old Oyster and Pearl, and in the same lot as the Swagyu Burger Lounge.

Food, service, and ambience is always fantastic here. Came to celebrate a birthday. This platter fed 6 of us. Everything was delicious, service was quick and friendly

Came here for the first time and this place did not disappoint! Excellent customer service they were very attentive and talked to everyone. Food was solid, ordered the Al Muhib Grill to try out everything. The best part of the platter was the lamb kebab it was cooked very well and was not too dry. Other meats were great too but the beef shawarma I found a little dry. The garlic sauce and other white sauce went well with everything. I enjoyed eating the Ney rice the most over Baryank rice because I'm not a cinnamon kinda guy. Lots of bread to go with the latter which was nice. Overall very solid meal and filling for 3 people, definitely would come again if I had a big party!

This place is DELECTABLE!!! I wish i could give 6 stars. I had the greek salad for appetizer, it was tossed with greek dressing and served with two big feta blocks. The serving was very generous, the salad itself was very fresh and crispy. My favorite was the entree. I had the lamb quzi, slow braised served with grilled onion & tomato plus lentils. I don't think I can describe how delicious this was, everyone needs to go try it themselves! For dessert I had the pistachio ricotta, it was so light and fluffy, it melted right into my mouth. Our server was extremely nice, she helped us understand the menu, and made recommendations upon request. I came as part of restaurant week, & I'm so happy I did as this place is a gem.

Turkish coffee gelato. Yum!

A lovely place that we keep coming and coming for its consistence of great food, great service and great ambiance. This week is restaurant week so we just had lunch here. Wow, the food was great and the coffee gelato dessert was to die for. If you have not visited this restaurant yet, try them out. You won't be dissatisfied. Happy meals.

Outstanding service and quality food. Everything was beautifully presented, fresh and delicious. They have happy hour all day Tuesday and on Thursdays they have a two item which include an entrée for $25

Baklavas

A FANTASTIC SDRW expanded Mediterranean experience. In house made baklava is enough reason to explore this 3YO La Mesa hidden gem. Spicing of each dish is very delicate and purposefully expands your taste buds. Hummus very smooth and creamy. Beef Burke delicate satisfying phyllo dough stuffed with minced beef. Iraqi lamb Quzi a Hugh portion of lamb shank over basmati rice with raisins, almonds and herbs. Fortunately today the fish was yet to be delivered so we have a solid reason to go bank. Hit the website for more pics. https://neyrestaurant.com

Recommended by a good friend. There were about 18 of us, went there for lunch. Slow day, place to ourselves. Place was clean. Was told that there are live entertainment in the evening on some days, and it's a must see. Service was great, very accommodating ( since I have few food allergies). Service was also fast, considering it was a large group with different dishes ordered. To share and as individuals. Everyone was very happy with their orders. Ingredients were fresh. Foods were flavorful and authentic Mediterranean cuisine. All staff were very friendly. They took empty plates off the table. Parking may be challenging, the place is in a small lot. but there are lots of street parking. Highly recommended. Give it try!

For the most part I enjoyed my meal here. The fatoush salad was really good and so was their baba ghanoush. Their combo platter was ok in my opinion. All the meats were cooked perfectly, but they all lacked flavor. Everything was pretty bland. Had to use a lot of garlic paste with every bite. I did have is pistachio dessert and it was amazing. Service was excellent too.

Oh my Gosh! Amazing food! A friend recommended that I go, so I went during happy hour (money saved)! The server was very kind and the food was delicious! I'm going to go back for the Thursday 25$ special 2 course meal next opportunity! There were just too many things I need to try another visit!

I had been wanting to try Ney Restaurant for some time, as I love Mediterranean food, and I am often in the area. On a Monday evening, I was meeting a friend at the restaurant next door for dinner, and it was unexpectedly closed. Famished, we walked into Ney and asked to look at a menu. When we were given a menu that said Happy Hour was all night on Mondays, we were sold. We were quickly seated and drink orders were taken. The restaurant was simple and clean, with some plants and limited decorations. I would say, however, that the atmosphere in general lacks character and any sort of a cozy feeling. Service was decent. The servers were friendly enough, but there were times when I would have liked more water, and we were ready for wine refills long before the servers returned. We shared three items from the Happy Hour menu: the baba ganoush which was served with a lot of pita, the artichoke and chicken flatbread, and the falafel. My favorite item was the baba ganoush. It had a nice smoked flavor with some good spices. The falafel was just OK. The flatbread was also OK, but slightly dry without a lot of flavor. I don't think the Happy Hour prices were that great of a deal, but the portions were large. We shared the rest of the leftovers and we were both able to make a lunch out of them for the next day. All in all, it is a decent restaurant, but not the best Mediterranean food I have had.

Food was fresh and was served quickly. Liked almost everything we ordered, except the kabob was a little bit overcooked. Still tasted good.

I was able to sign off at 330p and head over to this location. The place was empty and there were clean tables and floors when I walked in. I was greeted by the lady behind the counter, and she had a smile on her face. I ordered the beef & chicken shawarma plate, Wagyu Beef eggrolls, and a bottled drink. My food was freshly prepared. I received my order in 7-10 minutes. It smelled wonderful. I paid for extra yogurt sauce and left to take my food to-go. When I arrived home, I enjoyed a delicious meal. Everything was prepared with great flavor, portions, and care. I had the garlic sauce and the yogurt sauce with my meal. This place is one of my favorites. I have been eating their food since the Southpark Truck days, phenomenally delicious. Thanks!

Meats: Mixed Reviews as well - the sales are amazing and the meat can be quite good. It's all Halal. However, for this weekend specifically - the smell from the meat section is horribly strong. I noticed it a couple weeks ago maybe? It seems like they didn't clean whatever is going on and it got worst with time. I love this market and I don't want them to go out of business. My recommendation is maybe they clear out the meats and give the whole department a good deep cleaning. Also consider implement clean processes to keep the smell away because it's really impacting what is being sold. It's off putting to take home meats that it has a funky smell.

The food is was great and one of my favorite spots when I'm craving middle eastern wraps- I did built your own pita so of course I like the ingredients. I loved my pita bread (it's much different from the Greek style if you haven't tried it before!) and the enjoyed the steak in particular. It had a lot of warming spices (nutmeg and cinnamon maybe?) and the flavor is pretty unique! I added bell peppers, pickled cucumbers, lettuce, tomato, red onion, tahini sauce, and garlic sauce. I also got a piece of falafel - I always gotta judge a place by their falafel and this one was crispy on the outside and soft in the inside which was perfect. Next time I need to try the halloumi cheese stix with fig jam! Place was very clean and the decor was nice. I also love the Finjan coffee spot next door.

The staff is also consistently warm and kind, which makes the whole experience feel good from the moment you walk in. My only real frustration is with the wait times on online orders, and it's significant enough that I have to mention it. I work 10 min away and only get a 35-40 minute break. The app consistently quotes around 20 minutes- but honestly, 20 minutes shouldn't even be necessary. I've stood there and watched them make a bowl. It takes about two minutes. Other similar restaurants have my order ready in five minutes, consistently. So when the app quotes 20 and then I still end up waiting at the 20 minute mark on top of that - in a nearly empty restaurant - something is off. Today this happened (I hit the 20 min mark with no food), and I had to go up and ask them to make my order. This isn't a one-time thing either. It's happened enough times over the years that it genuinely deters me from coming here on my break. To their credit, there was a stretch where it seemed like they had it figured out, so I know they can do it. I just wish that consistency would stick. If you're not on a time crunch, absolutely go. The food alone is worth it. But if you're relying on a quoted pickup time, build in a buffer- a bigger one than you'd think you'd need.

We managed it by having part of our group jump out to get in line while we waited for a spot, a strategy that worked perfectly since we were seated within just a few minutes of walking in. The restaurant itself is beautiful, featuring clean white marble and modern lighting. It has a high-energy, "efficient ship" vibe. The staff is everywhere, and you'll hear a "symphony" of shouted orders and instructions that makes the whole place feel alive and incredibly productive. Seeing the constant stream of people picking up to-go orders was our first clue that the food was going to be excellent. The Food We ordered for a party of seven and found the portions to be very generous: The Platter for 3: This was the perfect way to sample five different types of kebabs. Every meat was seasoned beautifully and cooked to perfection. This came with a salad. The Qouzi: This was the standout for me. It's a unique dish with a wonderful blend of textures, the crunch of fried almonds on top paired with massive chunks of stewed lamb. The lamb was so incredibly tender I could literally cut it with a spoon! To top it all off, they offer free Arabic tea, which was the perfect finishing touch to a heavy, savory meal. Final Verdict It's rare to find a place that is this busy yet runs with such precision. Great food, beautiful ambiance, and a lively atmosphere. My family and I will definitely be back!
