During the service, the technician broke the factory drain-valve stem and the repair turned into exposed piping routed through a hole cut into the front cover of the unit. I began sending photos and requesting a proper resolution by November 2024. In December, I provided the model and serial information they requested. Gary, who I understand is the owner, also told me he would resolve the issue. However, I was repeatedly told the replacement parts, including the cover, were difficult to obtain. I specifically asked that the manufacturer be contacted, but the problem was never corrected. More than a year later, the water heater still has a hole in the front cover and an exposed drain assembly sticking out of it. I spent months following up by text and giving the company opportunities to make this right. The original mistake was frustrating, but the bigger issue was the lack of follow-through after the owner promised a resolution. Based on the unfinished repair and the amount of time this remained unresolved, I cannot recommend Henley's Plumbing & Air.

He called in his buddy, who came into my house and asked repeatedly "so you're the home owner?" "So you're the only one here making decisions?" "You're single?" He pushed me to buy a new unit and went over financing options. Told me if I signed that day they'd give a substantial discount. I felt that this whole interaction was pretty predatory. I told the tech I would need to think about this, and get another opinion. While the tech was here, he replaced a part to get the system working for the time being. They gave me an invoice for over 1000 dollars. I told them I'd need to have my dad look at the invoice and make sure I wasn't being over charged. The invoice was vague and did not list the parts that were replaced. I asked the tech to let me know exactly what was replaced. He wrote down a list, still pretty vague. My dad said that the parts replaced should have been around 400. Not over a thousand, and even with labor, this invoice seemed pretty unreasonable. I called the company back to discuss. They would not tell me exactly what parts they put in, and ultimately decided to drop the invoice completely. My assumption at this point was that they knew they were being shady. Fast forward to now. My system is freezing and not working properly. The tech from another much more honest company that came out today said that tests are showing multiple types of refrigerant, which could be causing my issue. I called year round to let them know that they should have drained the system before adding another type of refrigerant, and they maintain that they never added any refrigerant when they were here last. I think that this company is not taking accountability. I let them know I'd be leaving a review to share my bad experience. Shortly after I received a call from the owner of the company. He asked me to explain my issue, and when I did he denied that his techs would ever act in the predatory manner I described. I told him I did not wish to speak with him any more as he was not taking any accountability, and that this in fact was my experience, and I would be sharing it in hopes of protecting others. I hung up the call. HE CALLED ME BACK TO THREATEN LEGAL ACTION IF I "SLANDERED" HIS COMPANY! This review is not slander. This is an honest account of my experience with this company, and I will not be bullied into not sharing. I can't imagine how many of their customers have fallen for their predatory tactics. They came to my parents' home and claimed the entire AC duct system had been installed incorrectly and needed to be replaced, along with additional work involving the drain pan, for a total of approximately $20,000. The AC system and ductwork were installed only five years ago through Home Depot. The work was permitted and inspected. After getting another assessment, we learned that the actual issue was much simpler: the condensate drain line needed to be cleaned out. The clogged drain was triggering the overflow sensor, which was shutting the AC system off exactly as it was designed to do to prevent water damage. Going from a clogged drain line to recommending approximately $20,000 worth of work is extremely concerning. Blaming a permitted and inspected installation without correctly identifying the actual cause of the problem is unacceptable, particularly when dealing with senior citizens. I had previously used this company for my own home and trusted them enough to recommend them to my parents. Unfortunately, since the change in ownership, my experience with the company has been very different. I will not use or recommend them again. We are documenting everything, including the estimate, second opinion, and permit history, and intend to file complaints with the California Contractors State License Board and appropriate consumer protection agencies. If there is evidence that my parents were specifically targeted because they are seniors, we will also consider reporting the matter as potential elder financial exploitation. Consumers deserve an accurate diagnosis before being told they need tens of thousands of dollars in work.
