Since I can't afford a Renaissance or Eras ticket short of parting with a major organ, blowing 20 bucks to see college theatre will just have to do. Myself and about 50 or so senior citizens sat back to appreciate the chutzpah it takes to get up on a stage and PERFORM. This is a very charming theatre with decent-sized bathrooms. You can purchase concessions at the intermission for $2 each (did someone say Airheads?!?). There is also a shuttle operated by Rollins students that runs from the Truist Parking lot to the theatre and back for those that need it. I highly recommend checking out this lovely theatre and thanks to everyone on-site today who made the experience so much fun.

"From My Hometown" is, without question, the hottest ticket in Central Florida…read more If you haven't secured a seat yet, do whatever you can to get one. This production delivers a level of entertainment that surpasses anything I've seen at Dr. Phillips. The show transports you to a time when confidence felt earned, ambition was fueled by self‑belief, and the dream of success pulsed through every city street. Three cousins reunite unexpectedly in 1970s New York City, each chasing their shot at rhythm‑and‑blues stardom. Having been in NYC during that era myself, the musical stirred memories of a time when music wasn't designed to shock--it was meant to lift the spirit, soothe the soul, and move you from the inside out. This show captures that perfectly. From the moment the curtain rises, the audience is swept into a world that never disappoints. By the end of the evening, you realize you've been entertained more deeply than any amusement park or theater in the region could ever promise. If the spirit of James Brown, Otis Redding, or Jackie Wilson can be felt anywhere today, it's on this stage. Absolutely loved it.

(From age 12 to 17 years.) At the time, Maria was teaching at Studio 5D. The environment Maria cultivated for her students was very toxic, degrading and belittling. The toll this emotional harm caused from Maria's negative and noxious environment was not only immediate but also long lasting into adulthood. It has taken me years to find my confidence and self-worth due to the constant berating and patronizing remarks made during dance class and rehearsal. It is extremely difficult not to start believing in the negative remarks when it has a constant presence and is coming from someone of authority. While these events did take place over 10 years ago, I cannot imagine Maria providing children a positive and healthy dance environment to learn, create and grow.

This was such a cool discovery and well worth checking out when you visit Lake Concord Park.

While the stage area is not very big or complex, the performers do a great job of making use of the space and making it an immersive experience. At no cost, I was surprised by their quality! Quite possibly one of the best student plays I've had the pleasure of seeing. But this review isn't about the play.. it really is about the theatre, isn't it? Well, it's in an old lecture hall, so the seats are large, the rows are comfortable with plenty of leg room. The stage is wide and the lighting, while at times, oddly places, is both sufficient and efficient. The sound quality (acoustics) was quite pleasant as was the atmosphere of the lobby and box office area. The bathrooms, while dated, offered something you don't see in most bathrooms. Ledges on which to place your purse and a hook. No need to place your purse on the nasty floor! Kudos! I was quite pleased with my experience here.

And when that "Icon of Icons" is none other than Ms. Diana Ross...well, nothing else need be said. It was a dream come true to say the least. In my most previous update of the Dr. Phillips Center I indicated meeting with and having my photograph taken with the incredible soprano Sarah Brightman was an entertainment highlight of 2025. 2026 has just begun but I will have to use the superlative "spectacular" once again. As in a spectacular show from start to finish. Diana Ross may be 81 years old!...but she still has the voice and ahem...the moves of a much younger performer. Just think of this, she was performing with the Supremes in the 1960's. I wasn't even born and by the time I was she had 12 number one singles with the OG of girl groups! And she is still working it to this day. Ms. Ross sung a multitude of her hits which kept the crowd, and my sister and I, dancing and singing throughout the evening. However, when she started to belt out Gloria Gaynor's anthem "I Will Survive" that really got the audience out of their seats. An Icon singing and Iconic piece of music is an experience second to none. Ms. Ross, you and your mark on music history is unmatched...blessings to you and your family!
