This restaurant & bar is the most welcoming, friendliness, and yummiest places i have been to, to find gnocchi! Its in the alley way of York street and As soon as I walked into the restaurant you could feel it was so inviting. The bartender was so easy to talk to and knew the menu and what to recommend! I had the pesto gnocchi and it was so tasty. I was literally so happy after I finished all of my gnocchi! As I looked around the pizza looked good as well, I didn't order a pizza but all of the pizza looked delicious as well and all thin slices. The place is also super cute with its art on its walls and a little stone wall with a wine cellar built in! Just go and you won't be disappointed at all!!

Let's make Sydney's Laneways great! And with great cocktails and solid Italian food, Next Door is making a good start of it. I like a bar and restaurant with a story, and the birth of Next Door involved wanting to capitalise on the space next door to Made in Italy, and bring in some of the punters sitting eating pizza in the alley, into a small bar serving kick-arse cocktails. So, you get to benefit from a long-established kitchen, and kick back with a drink in a cosy, almost hidden atmosphere. It's in the right location too. Tucked away on York Lane behind Wynyard Station, I think they'll be able to take advantage of the buzz that's starting up around Barangaroo, and there are some interesting hotspots that are not so far away. You could make a night of it, really, start here, have another farther up the lane at the York Lane Bar (which looked cool, didn't try it) and then perhaps head down Clarence Street to grab a whiskey at the Baxter Inn. It's also in a good location to grab a quick meal and cocktail before heading towards the Opera House or Sydney Theatre Company for a show, as even though there are a number of restaurants in those directions, I think there's not that much choice among the good ones. But I digress. A short selection of sensational cockatils is up for your delectation (though you could always ask for the classics) from bartender extraordinaire, Maurizio (with a great accent, you'll feel you're in Italy). We thought the 'Southside of Sicily' would be red because of the blood orange, but the blood orange liqueur is actually clear. Mixed with gin, lemon and mint with an orange twist, it was refreshing, subtle and really delicious. I opted for the 'Made at York Lane' with rosemary-infused gin, aperol, fresh lemon and a sprig of rosemary. Also beautiful. We took Maurizio's suggestions for food. We were actually thinking of just going for the classic Margherita, and he suggested going for something more interesting. We loved the pizza, a Gamberi with prawns, oregano, parmesan, garlic and chili flakes. Thin crust, piping hot, just the right amount of cheese and spices and a prawn on every piece. The medium was just enough for the both of us, plus the pasta. And then the pasta: the mamma mia sauce is apparently the favourite, and we could see why: italian sausage, mushrooms, fresh cream and chilli in a napoletana sauce. Rich but not too rich. We were going to have the spaghetti but got convinced to have the gnocchi, and wow: usually when I have gnocchi, though I love it, it's just a bit heavy. You know? Aside from the extremely smart decision to split it between the both of us, these gnocchi were super light and delicate. It was really a top-notch dish. Pasta and pizza, $18 each, and the cocktails, $16. A pretty good price point. As I said (and have to use this joke now because the US Presidential elections will be over soon enough and hopefully Trump (and his slogans) consigned to the dustbin of history): let's make Sydney's laneways great. I think the City of Sydney has done an amazing job of getting this going, and facilitating small bars to happen, but we're still rather behind those cool laneways in Melbourne. I've tended to dine and drink in suburbs like Surry Hills or Potts Point rather than go to the CBD, but I'd be certainly happy to hang out more often in the CBD with cool little joints like this.

We did not have a reservation, but they fit us in as a walk-in at a small coffee table with 2 ottoman seats. Not the most comfortable set up, but I appreciate the cozy atmosphere, almost like you are sitting in someone's very posh and dimly lit den. All the NOLA classics were featured, like Vieux Carre (no likey), old fashioned (likey), and hurricane. There were some twists on the classics as well. I liked the newer house specialties, and ended up having 3 drinks, more than I intended. We snacked on some popcorn chicken, which was nothing special, but very satisfying when hungry. We were also lucky enough to be there when the live jazz band played a brief set, which really set the mood. I took off a star because not every drink was a homerun, and the service was a bit too impersonal for a speakeasy. We had a different server each time. One of my favorite parts of going to a speakeasy is to watch the bartenders work their magic and ask them for recommendations, and if I'm lucky, maybe get an off menu drink. Not quite set up that way here.

One of the absolutely coolest spots that I visited in Sydney…read more I honestly hope it's still here. We came during a business conference and ended up here 4 nights in a row.

My friend and I stopped in for drinks after a concert. The entrance is located in an alley, and…read morethere is a small sign. It totally has a speakeasy vibe despite the sign at the door. The photos in the entry way were super cool. As we descended down the stairs, it felt like we were going back in time to the Roaring 20s. It was a Wednesday night, so the bar wasn't terribly crowded, though it was still busy. We grabbed a seat and browsed the menu. After a few minutes, no one came by so I eventually got up and ordered at the bar. I had to wait nearly 10 minutes before I was even able to order a drink. I don't know what the hold up was, but the service was extremely slow. While I was waiting, there were some drunk guys who were pushing the hanging light fixtures. This went on for a few minutes and the staff never said anything to them. It was annoying and extremely off putting. Once I was finally able to order a drink, I asked for a Martinez. The bartender could not understand me. I think I repeated myself at least three times. I guess the way I pronounced "Martinez" sounded like "martinis" lol. I ended up pointing to the drink in the menu before he finally understood what I was trying to order. I know I have an accent, but I didn't think it was that heavy lol. I will say that my Martinez was well made and tasted so good! My friend had planned to order a drink, but changed her mind after she saw how long it took for me to get my drink. Luckily she's a local, so she can go back whenever she wants. If it weren't for the long wait and the annoying drunk guys, this would have been a 5-star experience. If you enjoy craft cocktails and have patience, go check it out.
