I came to Janus with my girlfriends the other night as we didn't really know where to go in the city for dinner and we just thought we would check out what was on Level 6 at Westfields.
We actually intended to go to Jamie's Kitchen but you can't book (or there is limited seats) and there was a 40 minute wait.
So we came to Janus which is another italian joint but much more casual and with nicer prices. I didn't know Janus even existed but we saw tables outside on Level 6 with candles on them, and it looked like a nice place to eat. My friends wanted to eat Italian and we could see that the menu was an italian menu, so we chose this place and took a seat in the middle of the restaurant. It is hard to call this place a restaurant as the seating is outside so it looks kind of like the food court but it isn't the food court as that is on Level 5.
Anyway back to the food. My girlfriends ordered the chicken schnitzel burger, and a seafood pasta dish and i ordered the gluten free lamb salad.
The description on the salad was slow cooked lamb, lemon, oregano, grilled haloumi, mixed greens, tomatoes, cucumber, olives, lemon and oregano vinaigrette. I basically try to order items which won't break my diet and this seemed pretty good. The cost of this meal was $18.
Our meals came out and i was pleasantly surprised at how big my salad was! My lamb salad was served in a big bowl with mixed greens at the bottom, and a big heap of slow cooked lamb on top which nearly covered all the greens. The lamb was falling apart in your mouth and was delicious and tender (not too fatty either). I always get worried when I order a salad that it wouldn't be heavy enough, but this salad was very filling!
There was lots of meat, if I was to guess i would say around 200 grams worth. It was a substantial meal and very taste and flavoursome.
This salad was so good, that I want to bring my partner here and come back to have this salad!
My girlfriends said their food was really good too, except for my girlfriends "wedges" which looked like soggy thin cut wedges. They weren't crunchy at all so that was a bit of a downfall.
The waiter was also authentically italian with a strong accent, so that was cute too. She was really friendly and attentive.
I would definitely come back to Janus and it is great if you want to escape the noisy food court on Level 5. read more
