Started eating and realized I hadn't taken a picture!

We like to go out for lunch a lot. Always looking to try new places and it's hard to find a place open on Tuesdays in our area, so off to Next Door Deli today for a first (and not last) time visit. Have to say the most challenging thing about our visit was making our choices. I went with The Stugots. It was a great beef sandwich on a nice sub roll with onions peppers and olive salad. Best part was dipping it into the au jus which was delicious. I had a side of homemade potato salad which I loved. My partner had the Figgly Piggly (a special for the day). Prosciutto, goat cheese, fig jam arugula and balsamic on a short baguette. She declared it wonderful! Her side was granny smith apple and onion salad. Yum. Always great to take a chance on a new restaurant and this one did not disappoint. We will be back!!

My dad and I meandered over to Next Door for lunch on the advice of the gals at Reed's Coffee Shop. Wow! Huge portions, fresh food, great service.

My sandwich didn't have any properties of a brick and all of the properties of a good sandwich. Perfect!

I got food poisoning after eating a sandwich. It was not clean inside at all. Would not recommend to anyone.

My family and I love eating at Next Door Deli. They have fast service, deciduous subs/sides, and are super kid friendly. Highly recommend!

Yo, the internet homies steered me wrong! Shame on y'all!…read more I got the shrimp burger with smoked gouda mac and cheese. The shrimp were criminally overcooked, and the mac needed salt in the worst way. They didn't salt the pasta water (or salt it enough), and the mac was really sad, as a result. My friend got the soup of the day combo, which were were told was a "white bean and basil soup", but I'll be danged if it didn't come out with the most garbanzo-y looking white beans I've ever seen in my life. She said it tasted like they dumped rotel, chickpeas, and pesto into a pot and called it soup, and not in a good way. My wife got the smoked wings. She said the flavor was good, but they were brought out lukewarm and very lightly sauced (she's an extra saucy kind of lady). We got two cocktails, a cherry limeade slushie and a Kill Devil Hills Pain Killer. We were told the cherry limeade was made with just cherry mixer, lime, and vodka, but it definitely tasted like it had coconut in it, and my wife hates coconut. The Pain Killer I got was acceptable, but we ordered it with our food, and it didn't come out until I'd almost finished my dinner. The vibes in the place were meh, but fine (especially if the food/drinks were good), but the tables were extremely sticky across their entire surface, so either someone sucks at cleaning, or the finish on the tables was failing and needed to be sanded down/refinished. We did get a side of sweet potato fries that were pretty dope, but they didn't make up for the disappointment of everything else. 1 out of 5 stars; do not recommend.

The food was brought out nice and hot and cooked pretty much to perfection. The chocolate cake desert was delicious too. Being that it was a weeknight it wasn't too crowded and the ambiance was nice and quiet, tables were clean and presentable, we were a set up short but the staff were quick to get the place setting to us. Drinks were great too no complaints there either. This place is certainly a great option if you are looking for something not too touristy and want to have a nice night out in Morehead City I would definitely suggest giving this place a try.

We sat at the bar side which was very casual and busy. We ordered charbroiled oysters, oysters Rockefeller, truffle steak fries and a spinach bacon salad with grilled shrimp. Our server was very knowledgeable and helpful in spacing out our food so that we'd have enough room at our small 2 top table. My cosmo was good and strong! The charbroiled oysters were amazing & the chargrilled bread to sop up the buttery garlic sauce made it even better. Highly recommend! The truffle steak fries were beautifully presented and a generous portion. They were perfectly fried and well seasoned with Parmesan, garlic aioli and truffle oil. Oysters Rockefeller were also very good as was the spinach salad with shrimp. If you're in Morehead, this is definitely worth a stop!

We were a little anxious because of some negative reviews. We ate here several years ago and loved…read moreit. We still love it. Service was attentive, the wine list extensive, the menu seductive and the portions impressive. Chef Paolo stopped by to confirm I wanted spicy marinara, as it is, indeed, "spicy." MI had the Pescatore Alla Sorento (see pic). The platter is filled with clams the size of my fist, calamari, mussels, monster shrimp. In other words these are premium ingredients chosen, not frozen. Served over pasta in a delightful marinara full of tomato chunks and spices to titillate. Most people would prefer the sweet marinara. My partner had the lobster ravioli, served in a delightful cream sauce. It was divine. It is a challenge to cook such a medley of seafood and get it all right. The large clams and shrimp need to be cooked to the right tenderness, but, by then, the small clams and mussels are rubbery. Hence 4 stars. But, despite others' experiences, we were treated very well and the food is authentic. Given the quality and care that went into each dish the prices were very reasonable. We will be back, for sure.

Casa San | Morehead City, NC -- 2/5 Stars…read more As a food judge who has evaluated thousands of dishes and visited hundreds of Italian restaurants throughout North Carolina, I appreciate authentic cuisine, quality preparation, and professional hospitality. Unfortunately, Casa San was a significant disappointment. The restaurant has an inviting atmosphere, generous portions, and reasonable service times. The antipasto special was very good, and the homemade-style bread was excellent. Unfortunately, the positives ended there. The broccoli and spinach soup was unpleasant, reminiscent of dishwater. The pasta e fagioli contained excessive pasta, insufficient broth, and lacked balance. The chicken entrée was bland, with an unusual, peeling texture, while the accompanying pasta was severely overcooked. Even the Diet Coke tasted unpleasant. Service was equally disappointing. Our waitress was unwelcoming, and management appeared disorganized. When an individual who appeared to be the owner or manager asked about our meal, we explained our dissatisfaction with the soup. He removed the bowl but left the charge on our bill without explanation. Throughout the visit, I also observed management reprimanding employees in the dining room, creating an uncomfortable atmosphere. I noted additional concerns involving visible food-handling practices, substantial ceiling discoloration in the restroom, and a portable air-conditioning unit with exposed cords and an exhaust hose near a hallway. Although portions were generous, the food quality did not justify the pricing. Casa San has potential, but poor culinary execution, inconsistent hospitality, and maintenance concerns overshadowed the experience. Final Assessment: 2/5 Stars. Authenticity alone does not establish quality. Based on this visit, I would neither return nor recommend Casa San.
