Fenwick as a brand has 8 locations across the country and was founded here in Newcastle Upon Tyne. This location is their flagship. The store has entrances on street level (Northumberland Street) as well as entrances from the mall. The store is open until 7 pm on most days, although opening hours can vary, this means they're generally open an hour later than John Lewis, which is the mall's other main department store. The store is fairly attractive, with modern and older parts and the selection again is reasonable. The renovation is starting to show which is ongoing to celebrate the store's 140th anniversary. The Food Hall area reminded me a little of a smaller version of Harrods, pricey for sure but they had a variety of items appearing to be high-quality, including some meats which looked of a fantastic quality. I much prefer the technology section at John Lewis nearby, however - although Fenwick for sure wins on the Food Hall side of things. 4*

A real pleasure in doing business with sales staff like that and they definitely make you want to shop at the store again.

There are some very good special offers and famous names in clothes and electricals at fantastic prices.they have sweets and household items. There was one big disappointment---they stopped selling curtain fabrics which they had long been famous for. I couldn't believe it at first and assumed it was being moved.Then I tried stores in other towns and they had stopped too.

The store is supposed to be a discount one but I did'nt think the goods were that much of a bargain.I've often got the same thing cheaper elsewhere. I am a 71 year old disabled pensioner with myriad health problems and a tiny assistance dog in a small pram which is a walking aid for me. I was treated in a bad way on the floor selling cutlery which was expensive but which I wanted to purchase.The young assistant had a couldn't care less attitude.So I walked away without saying anything as I am very polite. I approached the duty manager on my way out who totally misconstrued what I said to him. I have spent thousands of pounds in Binns over many years even when it was open in Middlesbrough.In this time of economic recession I am GLAD they are allowed to be rude so they won't miss my custom.A couple outside saw my distress and comforted me.He needs to remember NOT ALL DISABILITIES ARE OBVIOUS.As the nice Lady outside said 'Poor communication skills are paramount in all walks of life'.I will never go there again.

I never find myself buying ANYTHING in here but it is always good to browse around if you are on Grainger Street. Upstairs, they have the homeware department which is extensive. I think it covers the entire first floor! The actual products are a bit dated but they are going cheap at really affordable prices. I think I saw a JML stand too, which I've only ever seen before in Woolworths and BHS! Very rare! If you go upstairs again, then you will be smack dab in the centre of the electrical department. I must admit, it is slightly chilly up there as they usually have all of the fans turned on full blast which is a bit unsettling. Up on this floor is the restaurant which looks fairly decent for what it is. It also boasts big windows with views over Grainger Town. But I have never eaten here so I do not know what the food is actually like. As the final remnant of the 20th century High Street, it does a great job and is worth a visit every once in a while. If you are a younger shopper the clothing is a bit lacklustre and is just rails and rails of granny and grandad clothes.

The window displays are quite attractive and change regularly. It's a shop that tends to cater more for mature ladies rather than a young clientele but the range seems to be less frumpy than a few years back. At the moment they have some nice ranges in good colours. I'm picky about shops that have bad signage and Bon Marche has a handwritten sign with a misused apostrophe in the doorway which annoys me every time I go by.
