I was in the Northumberland Street branch recently, as I was visiting family in the North of England whilst I was back in the UK for a few weeks. I've visited the branch a few times over the years, and the majority of the staff have always been so lovely and incredibly helpful. However, during a recent conversation with a lovely and helpful staff member (we'll call them SM: A), another member of staff (we'll call them SM: B) randomly came briskly - almost marching - over to myself and SM: A, and proceeded to rudely interrupt our conversation, stopping it entirely, and THEN interject that SM: A needed to get back to work, implying therefore that they were not doing their job. Most times I have visited that particular branch over the years, SM: A has been present and I don't think I've ever seen them stop, much less slow down! Some other similar staff members, on the other hand, they seem as though if they slowed down any further they'd surely stop and proceed to go in reverse! read more

This branch of Marks and Spencer is a really impressive branch of the large Department Store chain, on Northumberland Street, really close to intu Eldon Square (As I recall you can also get into the mall through this shop) in Newcastle Upon Tyne city center. This is a large store over multiple floors, the mobile signal throughout the store is good, which is something which can be quite hit and miss in some branches, such as my local store in Manchester. The Food Hall here was quite impressive, it felt relatively modern and had an above average selection, especially for gluten free, with some nice products here, which I have struggled to find at other branches of the chain. The staff around the store could have been greater in number and more evenly distributed, however. The store also had a good selection of other non-food items across its' two floors including greeting cards and clothing, so in my opinion, I feel this store deserves a slightly generous four-star rating. read more

Love me some Marks and Sparks (does anyone call it that nowadays?). Great food. I mean, so so so so good I'm getting hungry writing this! I wish I could afford it more often! I just love, love, LOVE their food!!! There's always new lines added and you can always guarantee you will walk out with tasty good quality stuff! Best time to go is when the bakery is discounting all their produce (lemon muffins anyone?) or first thing in the morning when everything is fresh! This is a really big M&S that opens onto with a cafe I'm yet to try and backs into the Haymarket bus station/metro (or is it the other way around?!). As you can tell, I'm only really interested in the Food Hall but I should add that if you didn't know already; Marks & Spencers also sells clothing and homeware too (afterall, it is a department store)! Sometimes you find some nice pieces but I think the clothing is targeted at an older audience and the homeware is kind of expensive for my poor wallet....but they do stock really nice stuff! I do have to also disclose that M&S do some pretty nice good-quality undies and PJ's (my fav!) so make sure to check that out as well as the food! If you want good tights, definitely have a good look here too! I really wish I had more dollars to spend in here, I am truly sad to think that there are so many items I am still yet to try! read more

This is the biggest M&S I've been in and it is nice and bright because of the glass dome in the main atrium with the glass lifts and escalators. I love the food hall for my beloved Percy Pigs and rhubarb and custards. There are 2 cafés (one at the Northumberland Street exit and one upstairs which used to be the M&S Kitchen, a restaurant with table service. The store has many different exits. The exit to Northumberland Street is the main one with the wall of plants and there is also an exit into the Eldon Square shopping centre. The food hall has an exit to the bus station which is handy. One of my favourite stores in Newcastle and I hope it's around for a while. read more

Situated on Northumberland Street,Marks and Spencer must be the most well known department store in Newcastle.I'm not a big fan of M&S for myself as I find the clothing quite boring for ladies.It's ok for the older man and children get a good range,but I suppose that's a matter of opinion.Also their home range is nothing to write home about.I love the foodhall though and it's here where it excels.I find some of their products unbeatable and worth paying that little bit extra for.The bakery is great.They offer banking and currency services upstairs and also the toilets are situated there.There's a cafe here too as well,which I can recommend. Downstairs there is also a couple of other places to grab a snack or a quick drink. There are escalators and a lift so access is catered for and I must admit the staff always seem cheery enough. read more

This is one of the largest Marks & Spencer stores I've been to. It has a cafe right on the high street, and you can pop in for lunch if you're out shopping. There is a very large grocery department, always well stocked and with a large range of products, fresh but mostly already cooked. They have a large selection of both casual and formal and evening wear clothes for men, women and children. The changing rooms are nice and spatious. Parents might be interested to know that they have a whole section on school uniforms. Upstairs with the banking services is a currency exchange, which has always had one of the best exchange rates (better than the post office). They can also deliver your cash if you want to do your transaction online. read more

I have purchased goods from M&S for many years but I'm now unhappy with their systems and service. The M&S website displayed just nine potentially suitable casual shirts (size XL, long sleeves, regular fit, button-down collar) and only one looked interesting. I took a bus from my rural home to the Newcastle city centre store. The round trip journey time is about four hours. I couldn't find the shirt in the store. Irritatingly the stock of shirts at the store are literally all over the shop, so you have to look in every nook and cranny of the huge menswear section to see the entire selection. A shop assistant looked up my chosen shirt on a computer terminal. She said it was not stocked at the store but it might be stocked at the Gateshead Metrocentre store, meaning an inconvenient train or bus journey from the city. She offered to order one up for me, but In view of the journey time to Newcastle to collect the item, it would be easier for me to order online for home delivery. However I simply do not like ordering clothes online. The M&S website does not allow customers to see if a particular product is stocked at a particular store and whether it is currently in stock at the chosen store. Moreover there is no 'same day' reserve and collect facility. M&S is annoyingly behind the times. Other major high street retailers have advanced IT systems and websites for efficient stock management and excellent customer service. M&S e-mailed an automated refusal when I tried to publish this review on their website..... "Thanks for taking time to review our Premium Pure Cotton Checked Shirt. We popped in for some lunch after a trip down from the Glasgow area and was sad to see that the café had moved downstairs. Gone were the oversized, comfy sofas replaced by the standard stock M&S Café. I ordered a baked potato, beans and cheese but they were out of beens (luckily I'm not vegan or lactose intolerant). The food was good and loved the Lemon drizzle cake (personal fave). read more

I must admit I find this place handy from getting from the bust station to eldon square and for the toilets which are spacious (upstair near the home part) There are several places to eat here a resteraunt upstairs a litlle place for hot food and take away stuff downstairs and a little wine bar next to the bread I have always found it a little weird drinking with people pushing there trolleys by. I dont like the queues here as the trolley and basket aisles are always packed and I dont like the way they constalty move things around. Also they arent that good at restocking quickly and sometimes you cant get what you want. The clothes part upstairs is good they will measure you for a bra here and they often have sales on the clothes. There is also a currency part which usually has good exchange rates read more

I wouldn't exactly describe Marks and Spencer as a bric and brac shop but I acquiesce that this store sells an assortment of items. Recently redeveloped, this is a major shop in Newcastle Upon Tyne, practically part of the Haymarket bus shelter and a huge gem on Northumberland Street. It has recently made the Northumberland Street entrance easier to access. It leads straight into the menswear department, with womens clothing upstairs on the first floor. The shop now hosts a top restaurant which is upstairs. The food here is stunning. I recently went in with a friend and got a great vegetarian ravioli dish with the chocolate melt-in-the-middle pudding that we all know from the famous This isn't just food commercial. It was all very reasonably priced too and the staff seemed so happy in their jobs. Downstairs there is a deli, hot food to go area and also a Cafe Revive which is great for smaller snack type meals on the go. The food hall is downstairs too, leading onto the bus stands. There is a big selection of M&S own make luxury food items. Plenty of checkouts - they recently pulled the self-checkout though as it was too slow. There are basket lanes though, if you only have a couple of items. In the womenswear upstairs there is a big Per Una and also a Limited Collection. There is an exit upstairs leading straight into the heart of Eldon square, so it is a great, central location to start your shopping! read more

The entrance from the Haymarket bus station brings you into the Food Hall where there's a contintental style cafe for a quick drink or snack. There's a huge range available from this shop including services like Bureau de Change, financial services centre, lingerie/bra fitting, gift registration as well as men, women and childrenswear, Per Una and Autograph collections, bakery and cake personalisation and homeware. The toilets are clean and the changing rooms spacious with friendly and helpful staff. read more

Apart from the fact that it's a short cut from the bus station to the main shopping street, it's really convenient and nice. In fact, the fact that is is a thoroughfare makes it bustly with a nice atmosphere. read more

M & S is a large store, part of the well known national chain. The Newcastle branch is spread over two levels. The ground floor is smaller, with menswear at the front, gifts towards the middle, and a large food hall at the back. The food hall has recently been modernised, and stocks a wide range of yummy meals as well as a bakery doing fresh goods. There are escalators, stairs and lifts to the first floor, which is larger. This is almost entirely womenswear, with a large Per Una range, and a smaller signature collection. There is also the large undies section and the bra fitting ladies who I am assured are very friendly and professional! At the back is a small financial services and customer services section, as well as a modern café that does hot food, sandwiches and lots of fresh meals and fruit salads. A lot of the food here is now cooked from scratch, and it is very tasty. read more

This Place on the city center of Newcastle. Big Store with 3 level, at level 1 have supermarket and level 2 have café (very posh). This place is good for parent and baby because on level 1 have big place for mother to change nappies for his/her baby and level 2 have small place for mother to go toilet with her baby and have just one changing nappies area. Mark and Spencer in this place so good very clean and tidy. Staff always helpful, try to get what you wanted. The best idea go there is Weekend day because they give plenty promo like sample, give card idea for cooking and many many more. read more

Located on Northumberland street this is a popular store in newcastle. In my opinion it can be a little pricey but all products are good quality. The food hall provides its own line in all products as well as luxary items. They also often have deals on champagne at christmas which is always good. read more

Visited restaurant for a birthday lunch based upon past experience Decided to take advantage of the two course meal offer including glass of wine for £10 The glass of wine was megre and much reduced from previous visits - so embarassed that I felt obliged to purchase an extra bottle of wine Furthermore the temperature was so cold that we complained to the waitress as it was so uncomfortable Unfortunately the air conditioning could not be adjusted so 4 very disappointed, cold and disgruntled customers retired post-haste to the cafe downstairs seeking warmth and hot coffee read more

I recently moved out of Newcastle,and will miss my daily shopping trips to my favourite m&s store,especially the foodhall.Its here where m&s really excel.The range,and diversity of food products available,is every shoppers paradise!Some say expensive,! If you're looking for bargains in the Per Una range then they often have several rails of end of range clothing upstairs. I think they may put these out midweek as I often go in first thing on a Wednesday morning and there are some good offers, at least half price. The upstairs restaurant, which has table service, is also very nice. They serve breakfast until about 11 - much later on a Sunday I think - and it is a nice relaxing atmosphere. Can recommend the kippers and the coffee is, as with the other cafes downstairs, delicious and Fairtrade. There are also newspapers to read. Often get my currency at this M&S and find staff very helpful. When they didn't have enough to complete my order they rang the Metro Centre branch to reserve some for me to collect as it was more convenient for me to go there after work. M&S always have a very good range of greetings cards too (downstairs) which change frequently and are a lot cheaper than in other places - starting price for birthday cards etc £1. read more
