This place had caught my eye when they advertised a boozy brunch and DJ on Sundays. I had headed to the NDSM neighborhood of Amsterdam.to check out the street art scene, and had forgotten all about the special Sundays until I happened past "next". The poster on the door confirmed it was still a thing. Went in and asked if I could sit anywhere (I could) but as I expressed that I desperately needed to get warm, the server directed me to the side of the restaurant with cushioned banquettes, great views and lots of reading material.
I wanted a hot drink with a kick, but they didn't have gluhwein and I don't drink coffee (so no Irish, Mexican, etc.). The server asked her boss, who is also the bartender, for a suggestion and settled on hot tea with rum which was served by the bartender herself with a flaming cinnamon stick! What panache
That settled, I ordered and ate a half dozen oysters, and then had a Bloody Mary and a second half dozen oysters. (They are from Ireland, but fresh. Served with a classic mignonette sauce and on a bed of salt.)
Feries from Amsterdam Centrum (a couple of options) will drop you almost at their door Seems like a nice way to spend a Sunday afternoon, doesn't it? read more
