Aphee is tired but excited to get home and show her human little cousins that she can be polite around them.

You're looking at the newest graduates of NexGen K-9 Training Quarantine Summer 2020! I'm kind of sad the training came to an end but Rob provided us with a brand new life. Our dogs no longer embarrass us in public by acting a fool, they're polite leash walkers and even more polite off-leash walkers. They come when called, they don't jump on me first thing when I come home. WE ARE SAVED. I love my dogs more than yesterday and I say that a lot because it's incredible to see them think for themselves with structure. There's now a clear communication expectation between us and them and this is what having dogs is really about. This is the life! ‍‍‍

We brought our 1.5 year old mini australian shepherd to Rob for pulling on the leash pretty bad and aggressiveness towards kiddos. Rob was very straight forward (no sugar coating) about what we were doing wrong and how we can correct it moving forward. Pricing for our package was pretty reasonable compared to other trainers in the Bay Area and he made us feel the most comfortable and had the most expertise. On our first session he told me by the end of todays session, she will no longer pull on the leash and I kid you not - she never pulled on the leash again. Rob's approach for our dog was a simple prong collar and e-collar. I was super hesitant about both and he carefully walked me through both options, had me physically feel on my hand what the ecollar felt like and overall brought comfort given the bad reputations e collars have. The entire time, our dog fell in love with him and was genuinely so excited to see him and train with him every week. We took a few sessions in Winters to train her with his personal dogs and off leash and it helped so much! The entire training program really cleaned up her dog manners all around because overall she was responding better, listening, she became super sharp! As for the kid aggression - we didn't tackle it much until the very last session given it's kind of difficult to willingly put your dog that doesn't like kids ... in front of kids lol. The last session we were able to get her around kiddos but she was pretty over stimulated (another dog, playing fetch) she didn't even notice the kids which was a huge sign of improvement! His overall recommendation was for us to be an advocate for our dog and respect her boundaries for not liking kids. We can also redirect her with the ecollar if she doesn't turn off her focus on them. Since then - she's been able to successfully be off leash, literally right next to babies and letting them pet her. We haven't gotten to the toddlers just yet but she doesn't notice them as much anymore! Overall experience with Rob was a 10/10. Him and his staff are incredible and really take good care of these dogs. If you're not ready to hear the hard cold truth about how you've been training/treating your dog, then I don't recommend because 9/10 it's the parents that need training.

I purchased a puppy from a breeder with the intention of doing Personal Protection, well my puppy was extremely scared, nervy, and did not qualify. She was weeks old and willing to bite strangers because of fear, definitely not the type of puppy I was hoping for. The idea of her biting someone on her terms scared me but I believe if you get a dog its for life so I decided to get her help in hopes of overcoming her issues. I thought I did research on trainers, reached out to a trainer in my area with the highest number of 5 star ratings on Yelp and attended 5 classes in 3 weeks and quickly realized I had made a huge mistake! I was given horrible advice, possibly made my dog even more reactive as she was only 9 weeks old when we started and quite possibly going through her fear period. The worst was when I was told that a dog like mine should be "returned, given away, or put down".It was then I reached out to NexgenK9. Brena was 17 weeks old when we started, she has fear aggression, is reactive to people and dogs. I couldn't even walk her without her cowering and pulling in the opposite direction. She's lunge at dogs and people for just being near us. We've gone through 8 classes (she'll be 8 months soon) and have grown by leaps and bounds! We trained with the ecollar, muzzle, and learned control. Her focus on me is amazing, a complete 180 from where we started, she knows her commands, people are able to come over our home which previously was a stressful for her, guests and myself. I can walk her in a park full of people without the fear of anyone getting hurt. She's played and met dogs without any issues. Working with Rob has definitely helped me understand Brena. Since we're finished with our first set of classes Brena will go through a medical evaluation, hopefully some medication and continue training. She's an amazing dog with quirks, but I'm learning how to deal with those. NexgenK9 helped turn my "chupacabra", uncontrollable, unreliable dog into a dog that can experience life.

Dude, tell people over the phone that you require e collars and restrictive collars ONLY and that you charge this much. Don't hide the ball
    Sima A.

As you can see from my yelp history, I am not into writing negative reviews, so mark my word, it takes a lot for me to have written this one. Nexgen K9 only gets two stars (which is the "could've been better" rating according to Yelp standards), but would have gotten the "not good" rating if it hadn't been for the sheer fact that I respect anyone willing to help train aggressive dogs. So that being said, my nonaggressive dog was sadly referred here by a wrong assessment by a vet employee who thought my dog needed this level of training. I didn't appreciate that Nextgen essentially lied to me about the pricing model they have when I made my appointment on the phone. I paid $400 bucks to have my dog assessed in a two hour session. The owner spent the first hour plus talking and filling out an intake form for me which could have easily been done beforehand or online etc. I also think they could have definitely taken down behavioral info beforehand then spent the time in a more constructive way assessing my dog. Over the phone I was told that I would be paying $400 for an assessment (two hour training/assessment) and I would be paying for a package of 3 lessons that amounted to something like $150-160 per lesson. I was very adamant over the phone with Samantha to make sure she knew that I was a single mom, and that I was very much wanting to know the cost of sessions going forward; I mean who the heck wants to pay $400 bucks and drive to Vallejo and give up their Saturday to find out the training is above their budget/too expensive. They spent an overall max 30 minutes of actually handling my dog/training. They put him on a spike/prong collar (don't remember the name but it was made in Germany and over $60 bucks) and tried a Martingale collar on him for just a second to see that it was not useful (well, my dog was used to harnesses so they didn't really give him a chance and quickly said he needed the more restrictive collar). They didn't ask if I was comfortable with this method or explain over the phone that their entire training depends on the use and purchase of e-collars that cost $249.99 that you are required to purchase to train with them along with a myriad of other items. I was told only at the end of my 2 hour appointment that the cost of the training would be $2000 for 8 lessons (that is $100 more per lesson than the quote over the phone) OR $3900 for two weeks at their Board & Train in Winters, CA., and I would have to purchase the following items as well: $55 for prong, $249.99 for their 400 e-collar, $35 for winged probes, $25.99 for walking leash, and $14.99 for martingale. When I showed my discontent with their communication over the cost (since I specifically mentioned over the phone that cost was very integral to my decision!) they backed each other up (Rob and Samantha) by saying "we said the minimum you may need is the three lessons but that after the assessment it could go up from there since we said the minimum is three lessons." I don't know what the heck they were saying, but I am sure that if I was their mom or wife they would go down to that shop and hella tell off the owners if this happened to their family. But you know what, it's ok for them --they got $400 bucks and they went about their day while I had to drive my ass back to Berkeley extremely saddened by this experience as I am really a woman of my word and they need to be upfront on the phone with people who are paying 400 bucks for their first assessment for their dog. I also didn't like that when I requested Rob, the owner, instead of Samantha I had to wait a couple more weeks for that appointment and I showed up to find out Samantha was the trainer anyhow. I had read some negative stuff online about her in another post, so I just wanted to play it safe and choose the owner. Samantha actually seemed fine and was the one mainly handling my dog. But in the end, she was dishonest with me on pricing in a very large way over the phone. She should have said the training would be $250 per lesson at a minimum of $2000 to start. I also didn't like that the owner put the ecollar on my hand and didn't turn it on to see if I felt it, and then turned it on later and to prove to me that it doesn't hurt. Either way, in the end, this place may be a great last resort for folks with dogs who are super aggressive as there a very few trainers willing to train these type of dogs, so kudos to them for taking on this venture, but they are not upfront with their cost system and that will eventually "bite" them, but for now, it bit me! What made it worse was they seemed like they could give a shit about losing my business or lying to me. I am sure they have had similar reactions from others. Either way, do your research above and beyond, and make sure to get the pricing in an email or written text about their costs. I think they should be ashamed of wasting my hard earned money. This place is not for nonaggressive dogs! PERIOD

We just completed our last training session with Rob and we cannot say how thankful we are for NexGen and Rob's expertise. Our dog Hippo, a brindle female bully, had aggression towards other dogs and even attacked another dog we adopted. We were heartbroken and had to work on Hippo and whatever baggage she had, so we returned the adopted dog. We were referred to Rob and after the consultation, we were in shock with how he was able to get Hippo to not react to other dogs by the end of the two hours. We immediately signed up and spent the last 5 Saturdays working with Rob and Hippo. We learned so much and Hippo truly is a new dog. She enjoyed her training and was happy to learn new behavior. She now walks without pulling me down the street, does not react to other dogs and only glances, knows basic commands and how to come back to me, and truly is a different dog. Thank you all to Rob and the entire NexGen team!

We hired NexGen K9 to train our 2 year old Australian Shepherd / GSD mix. When we started training we were having issues with her pulling at the end of the leash and jumping on anyone that came into the house. She was also having accidents on the carpet and suffered from separation anxiety to the point where she would tear apart our furniture when we were not home. Rob came out and worked with us. He taught us how to train her in a language she understood and how to give her structure and boundaries in and outside of the house. To say she is a completely different dog is an understatement. After the completion of our sessions she no longer pulls on the leash during walks, as soon as anyone comes in to the house she happily goes to her place and waits for us to agknowledge her, and we havent had any new issues with her tearing up furniture and other random items in the house. Overall she seems alot less anxious and she is a much more behaved dog. If your on the fence about hiring a professional trainer I can tell you from experience it was worth every penny. Rob was a pleasure to work with. He brings a realistic view to training and has the knowledge and experience to back it up.

Our boy Ace completed his last session (for now) with Rob about two weeks ago and it was the best decision we ever made. Rob provided us with the resources and guidance we needed to be better owners for our anxiety/fear ridden (and aggressive) dog. He helped me become more relaxed in certain situations so that Ace can also be more calm. He also helped my husband become less relaxed and helped him see that he needed to be more alert when needed. And of course all of this has helped Ace become a little more confident. I also love that the team really took the time to get to know us, Ace, and our lifestyle. No two dogs are the same, no two households are the same and I appreciate them listening to what our routine is and critiquing it where needed - it makes the world of difference! We know this isn't a forever fix if we don't put in the work day in and day out, but I am so forever grateful for all we've learned, and hope to learn more in the future. If anyone is ever questioning if more training is worth it for their dog, 100%. The NexGenK9 team changed our lives. Thank you so much.

We have been customer's of Rob's since 2012. Our Rottweiler/Shepherd dog Keno has boarded there a couple of times when we go out of town. Most recently 5/18-5/25 2022. We did training with Rob early on with our two dogs Bear and Keno. We learned (after the fact) that having two brothers from the same litter is not ideal. We were told our odds were less than 20 percent that the two dogs would get along as they matured. Rob's specialty is big aggressive dogs, and police dogs, and his ability to communicate with dogs boarders on the mystical. We lost Bear to cancer at 6-years, but my two dogs were best friends until then. Bear topped out at 130lbs and Keno at 90lbs. I am convinced that we would not have been able to manage them properly without Rob's help, guidance and insight. If you watch many "dog training" shows you will come to understand that it is seldom the dog that is the problem. Basically, Rob was able to teach me enough about communication, and patterns, and what to watch, that I was able to develop the relationship I wanted with our dogs. I love that I have a place to board Keno that I can trust.

Happy, trust-worthy, Rob trained and approved Rotties.

There really aren't any terms of gratitude, relief, or happiness that can accurately express how me and my family feel towards our experience with Rob. We have two rescue Rottweilers, brother and sister - and up until our sessions started with Rob (about a year and a half later than we should have started) it was a weekly conversation, "what have we done?" "we can't keep these dogs." Our dogs and the, "two-dog, one brain" problem. And while they didn't show any aggression towards humans, or our other dogs in the house - being in public was another story. They were unpredictable - some days they'd be totally fine with other dogs, other days one would jump into action and the other would follow. They were both insecure on the leash and would pull way ahead of whoever was walking them to the point where I refused to take them on my own. They also showed increased aggression while on the leash and would lunge and bark at other dogs they saw. More than once they pulled so hard they got away from us, luckily they didn't get to the other dog they did however mess up my Dad's wrist, hand, and ribs. After just ONE session, it was hard to believe we were walking the same dogs. I am not kidding. One session, and we could walk down the street with our dogs without being worried of a serious shoulder dislocation. After eight sessions, we could be at the park, on the street, playing fetch without any concern that our dogs were going to injure themselves, another dog, or us. Of course we need to be aware and look for the signs - which Rob taught us how to do, but walking is now something we all feel confident doing... and dare I say it's a relaxing experience. I cannot wait to see Rob again, we've decided to have a refresher course every 5 weeks (mostly for us to deal with separation anxiety, the dogs are fine) and for all future dogs as long as Rob's training we'll be clients.

Our GSD on our wedding day with NexGen K9. These wonderful trainers made it possible for her to be there!
    Jacqueline S.

We appreciate NexGen K9 more than ever after a recent training follow up for our GSD. Finding quality training for working style dogs is difficult and we always leave our training sessions and boarding visits as happy dog parents. It's always a great sign when your dog is grinning from ear to ear after working with your trainer!

Too expensive for our dog to be returned starving with his bones sticking out and cowering when we try to play with him.
