Another occasion where laziness trumps Yelp reviews. Newtown Cleaners, like most of my Lazy Gal's Bible entries, is right around the corner from my house. Now there are a few dry cleaners in the area, but no reviews to be had in Stockbridge. So when I dropped off my winter coat to be cleaned, I was pretty apprehensive (honestly, how did we all function and choose places before we could snoop them online?!). The extremely reasonable price tag of £10 for a large wool coat left me more so - this was either going to be really great or really really horrible.
They advertise same day, but I wasn't in a rush so when I dropped it off on Wednesday, I scheduled a Friday morning pick up. Today was that Friday morning and over coffee & breakfast, I decided to check out what the rest of the internet (outside the Yelpdom) had to say.
... wrong decision.
There are some major horror stories about this store and its partner floating around there on the web and I walked to the store thinking "please not have lost my coat... please not have lost my coat" as it was the most referenced issue. Thankfully, there was absolutely nothing to be worried about. The coat was in quite a state when I left it on Wednesday, not to mention had a cats worth of cat hair on it.
I picked it up today and it looks lovely. The price was right. The coat was ready (and not lost). The service was pleasant. I will definitely be back to this place... especially since seeing how reasonable their prices are.
Moral of the story? Don't judge a business under ten reviews by its cover. There are times where if too few have wandered through the door, it may not paint the clearest picture (yet!), so be a smartie and use your brain tool.
It was a good reminder that every review helps Lazy Gals everywhere find reliable spots. I got you lazy comrades! Yelp on! read more
