Great service and superb dressmaking skills at such a reasonable price. Bought 2 outfits one for a wedding and one for a ball. I received so many compliments from friends and family, I know where I will go first next time. read more

Master Tailor

I thought that since there were so many positive opinions, it was a really good tailor…read more Unfortunately, it is not as good as you write. The service is nice, warmly welcomes customers at the entrance, but the tailoring service is a disaster. The client's requests are not taken into account and the end result is different than what you thought it would be.
This is the sort of place that every young person moving out of home need to know about. It's…read moreamazing. They advertise themselves as doing 'bespoke tailoring' and it's not wrong. Any tailoring pretty much!! I came in here in a mad panic one afternoon after realising I had split a seam in my mums Karen Millen dress........sh*t. They could see I was in distress and were so lovely and comforting, and had the dress fixed within the day! I couldn't ask for any better. They also custom make curtains too, which is really useful for Edinburgh. The windows in some of Edinburgh's Newtown are ridiculously big, so they make all the curtains there for you! They have a really good dry cleaning service too. They are Master Tailors!

Since my first review (when I had only been a couple of times) I've had the need to go back to Stitch Express loads. Trousers adjusted, buttons replaced, dry cleaning, button holes made, shirts fixed; you name it, I've had it done. Every time I've been the service, quality and price has been impeccable with all alterations made well within the time promised. Often for smaller fixes and patch jobs they'll do them whilst you wait - who can complain about paying £1 to have a button replaced?! Good job this place exists or I'd look like a regular modern day ragamuffin. If you're on the Haymarket side of town and need some clothes adjust then make a bee line for Stitch Express. Or I'll punch you.
Most people have left good reviews about these guys but I actually didn't have a great experience…read more They are really friendly but I took my wedding dress into them to get altered and when i got it back there was a bleached stain under the arm pit. Luckily nobody will see it because of where it is but still, it wasn't there before. Also the first time I went to pick it up it was as if they didn't do anything to it. They said that there was a problem with the lining and fixed that (I hadn't noticed a problem with it) but I needed it taken in and it was still really big on me. I've ended up taking it in myself. Honestly don't go there. There's far better tailors in Edinburgh more expensive but worth it, especially of it's your wedding dress.

I didnt really know what I was looking for but the shop assistant was very helpful and accommodating. Despite being an older lady she was quite happy to run up and down ladders retrieving products for me to have a look at. The shop was very well laid out despite its small size and awkward dimensions. Needlework isnt something that I am personally interested but I easily found the perfect gift and a look around the shop certainly captured my imagination. If I was looking for similar goods in the future this would be the first place I would visit.

Eventually, one shop pointed me to Timpsons. This shop saved me! Next day it was fixed and good as new and at a great price too! However, their key cutting is somewhat questionable, as my flatmates new keys from this shop broke only 3 weeks afterwards. So, as far as show repair is concerned, I would most definitely head to this shop, the guy is friendly and chatty and my shoe is still intact.

I've been here a couple of times to get shoes re-heeled and maybe it's the fact that it is quite a traditional trade but you sort of feel like you're getting the kind of service your grandparents bemoan the lack of on this day and age. He always gives you some good chat and clearly has good relationship with all his customers and staff and when you're in there everyones in on the joke!

Stitches is well known throughout Edinburgh for its high quality of alterations and careful…read moreclothing treatment, and several members of my family have sworn by it for years. I recall coming in here in a massive fluster, wanting a dress altered for a big formal event that I had coming up. In my usual disorganised fashion, I'd left it completely to the last minute, but rather than eyeing me with a look of hostile, we've not got time for this qualities, one of the experienced members of the stitching empire whisked me through to the back to pin my dress in the right places, and in reassuring tones, told me not to worry. I should still be more organised though. Anyway, Stitches has never let me down in the alteration department, and I'm always confident they'll come up with the goods. Aside from alterations, they also do tailoring, dressmaking and drycleaning.

The staff were so friendly and understanding, totally brushing away my no-clue-about-sewing-repairs-ness. Definitely the first stop for clothing alterations and repairs in Edinburgh!

After I bought some really nice pants that were a wee bit too long, I popped in here to inquire about the prices. I thought the place looked good with lots of clothes on the left-hand wall and Lu sitting right by the door at his sewing machine, traditionally wearing a tape measure around his neck. I came back again with my pants and changed into them in his changing room. He pinned them up nicely and I left them with him. Just a few days later I came to pick them up, and he had done a really nice job.
