Attended a banquet here and the ambience was great with plenty of parking and great setup with the collaboration and coordination of the church staff. The social area was good but the bartender ran out of the nonalcoholic specialties as well as clean glasses, therefore had to use our glasses for refills. The soup; chicken corn chowder served with a puff pastry topping was very good and not overly hot where you could jump in and eat. The entree wasn't too desirable but satisfied the hunger. We had the stuffed hen breast, crab cake, mixed vegetables and roasted potatoes. The crab cake was dry and not seasoned served with cocktail sauce which was a no no! It would have been better with a lemon dill or hollandaise sauce. The stuffed hen was dry too and last season. Now I will say our event was delayed due to the weather which could cause food to be dry but the lack of season that was caused by not adding enough. The desserts were pretty good. I had a bite size chocolate mousse ball and small slice of strawberry shortcake, sorry no pictures of the desserts. Overall good experience. read more

Served as a wedding planner for a 200 person wedding at this venue. Overall I was very pleased with the venue staff and the facilities. The space is beautiful but a little outdated in some areas. The best thing about this space is that all necessary components are on site: ceremony space, full industrial catering/kitchen space, bridal and groom space, reception area, and main rental elements (tables + chairs). The staff are extremely friendly and helpful, but the space manager is a bit strict. The venue also has interesting rules about who can do what in the space, and well as strike down policies. Planner tip - if you bride can afford it, hire a cleaning service to support with breakdown. read more

Recently I attended a beautiful wedding reception here. The atmosphere was very festive. There were separate rooms for the bar area, an appetizers room before the dinner and a beautiful dining room with large area for dancing. There were other rooms set up for dessert, a fun room set up with an instant picture booth; the garden area was beautiful with a fountain and in the evening the lights gave it a romantic feel. The staff was very attentive and the servers were also great here. I would definitely recommend this venue for your entertaining and parties. It was a very classy experience. read more

I went to an event here recently. We used the room with the atrium. It was really nice but even with the blinds it was hard to see the presentation. The water bottles we used said catering by uptown but i am unsure if it was them or the mansion or golf courses catering company. But the food was ok. Some of the cups had lipstick still on them. We had to ask for cream and a scoop for the ice. There are two stalls in the ladies bathroom so although they were in pretty good condition, look recently updated, it is not a lot for a large group of people. We were about 50. The grounds were pretty and you can watch people play golf from the room. The parking lot was a little walk away from the entrance in heels too. read more

I got married here last November and had an okay experience overall. Their reservation process seems archaic (everything has to be done in person or over the phone), and they're not very accommodating with site visits or set ups. While I understand that the venue comes as is and it's your responsibility to book the other vendors, I couldn't help but feel nickel and dimed for basic items. Even though no one else had the space booked before me, I couldn't set up earlier, which put pressure on my caterers to set up in an unreasonably short amount of time - even when I offered to pay for an additional hour. The main ballroom also feels like a glorified auditorium. Why put bathroom tiles down when every other room has hardwood floors? Some of the rooms could use some renovating. The main appeal of this place is the reasonable price, but as everyone always says, you get what you pay for. read more

JUST OLD AND HAS A MILDEW SMELL. RENOVATION NEEDED ASAP!!! Wooden floors squeak terribly but the outdoors grounds are beautiful which got them two stars. The food was aight, the rolls were the highlight of the meal next to my handsome cousin marrying the love of his life. Now I have heard people rave about this venue but now that I been here I am trying to see what the hype is all about. As a professional event planner for nearly a decade I am acutely aware of all the behind the scenes logistics and understand the hard work and dedication it requires to pull off a successful event. Unfortunately, I did not experience this at the Newton White Mansion and felt the staff sabotaged my wedding, here is why... Pros Beautiful grounds: The grounds are beautiful! Located on a golf course, there are plenty of rooms in the main area for guests to spread out and explore. The glass atrium is breath-taking! So many guests stated how gorgeous the ceremony was because the sun was illuminating us up front. Responsive when contacted. Also, the on-site supervisor called my guests a taxi at the end of the night--thanks. Please note the Newton White Mansion staff will not allow you additional hours, no red wine without a waiver, no flower petals/rice/oatmeal being thrown--these were not surprises just setting the stage. Cons In the months leading up to the wedding the front office is responsive. Please do not mistake responsive for helpful; they were not helpful. I'm pretty sure they read from a script, can't think/imagine outside of the box. The front office lost/misplaced my caterers insurance/proof of liability, not once, but four times. This meant four trips to the Newton White Mansion by my caterer, beyond the many faxed versions provided. (We have confirmed fax receipts from all the tries, different fax machines were used in trying to provide the Newton White Mansion this document). The Newton White Mansion has many forms they request in advance. Their forms are out of date, photocopied many times, hard to read and not enough space is provided to adequately respond. Golf anyone? My suggestion is to request to have signs placed around the golf course of the Newton White grounds that say private event from x time to y time because golfers were teeing off during my ceremony. It's on video. Air conditioning was not working at our evening wedding on Saturday, July 13, 2013. The on-site supervisor refused to call an HVAC company, said that the park didn't have anybody on-call during the weekend. The 2 mechanical engineers who happened to be in attendance at my wedding were both in agreement that it wasn't broken; rather somebody didn't turn the air conditioning "on". Fans did not cut it. Guests left early as a result. (2) restaurant-style ice machines completely empty, no ice. If you are a non-preferred caterer at the Newton White Mansion be prepared to bring your own ice. We received 90% refund from New York based Magnolia Photo Booth Co. because the Newton White Mansion on-site staff members kept unplugging the power to the photo booth. The Newton White Mansion supervisor and staff watched 8 people stack 230 chairs. Upon completion, they were told they needed to put pillows in the chair in the "up" position. They had to unstack and re-stack 230 chairs. This is not how it was set up initially and we have photos to prove this. Instead of watching a crew of people stack chairs say something right away, not once the task of stacking 230 chairs is completed. Front office staff that were not scheduled to work that day came by to "check" if we were in compliance. I believe we were because we received 100% of our $750 deposit back from the Newton White Mansion. Spent some serious cash on 40 inch "sparklers" for my wedding exit. Got permission from the Newton White Mansion in writing, in advance. However this was not in the supervisors notes and he attempted to convince me that they were not allowed. Missing items include an Iphone 5, and a CD player with a Herbie Hancock CD. I wouldn't recommend the Newton White Mansion to my worst enemy. This venue is beautiful, but the people who manage this facility leave a lot to be desired. read more

I visited her for a Black History Month event, "Furs & Fros: Trailblazing on the Red Carpet." The event itself was amazing: educational, engaging, and entertaining. The venue is gorgeous. It's a historic property, so it's old. But it's well-restored and has the character of an older home with the creature comforts of modern times. I'd seen it online many times, but pictures pale in comparison to what you get in person. There's plenty of parking a short walk from the house (like 2 minutes), with plenty of accessible parking. The house itself is divided into rooms, but it's very spacious. The main area, a ballroom if you will, was huge and had so many windows. Although I was there at night, it would probably be even prettier during the day when it lets in natural lighting. My favorite part, by far, was the study. It has older books and several wing-back chairs. It's a nice getaway from the hustle and bustle of the rest of the house. I interacted with several of the staff members. They were so welcoming when I got to the event and showed me through the house to let me know where coat check was, where I could view exhibits, and finally, where and when the main event was. I really appreciated this because it would have been easy to wander into the wrong area or just be overwhelmed. They really made the difference. I've already added this to my list of rental locations for my future needs. read more

Our wedding was originally scheduled for 1/19/14 at a different venue, but when that venue closed and took ALL of our money, we were in a pinch to find a suitable venue with four months to go. Besides being incredibly stressed and low on wedding funds, we were nervous to trust a new venue. Newton White Mansion came to our rescue! While they didnt have the date available that we wanted, they were great to get us in on the next available holiday weekend. A few days before the event a huge snow storm hit DC and threatened to strand our guests in their respective states. Luckily, most were able to make it, and Newton White was thorough in their communication regarding accessibility and the safety of the parking lot and de-icing process. The day of went smoothly, minus it being a little hot upstairs in the rooms while we got ready. We were able to get a maintainence person to bring a fan and we were fine. They even gave us a gift of wine glasses! I would recommend Newton White for people who want a beautiful venue, simple and easy staff, and are not going to fret regarding small unimportant details. My experience is that, if they dont close and take your money, and give you what you asked and paid for, they fit the ticket! read more

Read the fine print, especially during COVID-19! We had originally booked the Newton White Mansion for a November 2020 wedding, which we postponed due to the ongoing epidemic. I understand the immense difficulty faced by wedding venues during this challenging time, but we have faced nothing but hassle trying to reschedule our event. They have now changed the date and time on us 4 times - one of which was because they tried to increase the price on us by $7000. They have told us they are unable to fulfill the terms of the original contract (I'm not talking understandable social distancing requirements either - I mean even the choice of chairs we wanted). The continuous back and forth has also placed us in bad rapport with our other vendors who are trying to be understanding why the date keeps changing so many times. And honestly, I wish that we could just forfeit our contract entirely at this point with them. It's very beautiful, I truly wish that the management lived up to our expectation of having a remarkable ceremony. read more

Recently visited this place for a wedding and although the grounds are nice, this place is in DESPERATE NEED of some updates. They can start by giving it a good cleaning, strip and buff the floors, and paint! I was mortified by all the black scuff marks I saw in various places. The furniture in the sitting room I sat in before the wedding was totally outdated and you can tell they've been there for YEARS. I had my wedding ceremony and reception at the Newton White Mansion. I loved this location because it's on a scenic property with ample parking and can have everything in one location. We reserved the mansion the day before so that our bridal party could rehearse at the actual wedding location. The mansion itself is beautiful and has lots of rooms to dedicate to different activities (guest sign in, cocktail hour, buffet room, reception). The groomsmen had their own suite with a private bathroom on the first floor while the bridesmaids had two rooms upstairs with lots of closet space and a dedicated bathroom. We had our ceremony outside by the water fountain and then hosted the cocktail hour and reception indoors. The reception hall overlooks a beautiful golf course and we set up the food in a room right next to the kitchen area. The best part about having our wedding here was that we could choose our own caterer and bartender. The Newton White Mansion's staff was extremely helpful during the entire planning stages. This mansion took my breath away at first sight and left quite an impression on our guests. read more

Def worth the trip! had super fun and great atmosphere!

Finding an affordable, beautiful venue in the DC area that can accommodate 170 guests for a wedding can be a bit of a challenge. From the moment we first set foot on the Newton White grounds, we knew we had found a winner. For our afternoon wedding reception in September 2015, we had an outdoor cocktail hour on the patio (with cornhole and other games set up on the lawn for our guests!), followed by a 3-hour buffet lunch with a live jazz band and dancing. The space was PERFECT for our needs. There were so many spots outside to take photos, and our caterers especially appreciated the full kitchen and easy access to many areas of the mansion. For lunch and dancing, we had 20 tables arranged in a U shape around the center, which we used as a dance floor. The acoustics worked well for our needs. We were also grateful for the ample free parking for our guests. We did not use the upstairs "getting ready" rooms for our event, as we held our ceremony offsite, but they were beautiful and would have served us well. There were several ancillary rooms downstairs, one of which we were able to use as a photo booth area, and the others were used for private space for our more introverted guests (or friends who hadn't seen each other in a long time and wanted to catch up) to get away from the hustle and bustle. The ballroom was so beautiful during the day that we barely spent any money on decorations - the windows out onto the lush green field and mature trees was more than enough for us. The staff was fairly hands off, only communicating with us when they needed information or a payment was due, though they were very responsive to questions and gave us ample information packets. They allowed us to make the decisions we wanted without interfering, and we were especially grateful that there were no restrictions on caterers, short of needing the right insurance and to do a tour. If you are looking for a full-on event coordinator, the staff here is not your best bet, but if you know what you want and just want a beautiful space to do it in, definitely go with Newton White. If you hope to use Newton White for your event, be sure to schedule a tour in advance and over the phone - they only do scheduling over the phone. The place books up fast, but the availability calendar online is accurate and up to date. We booked our Saturday morning/afternoon time block over a year in advance, and it was the only weekend time slot available that month. We are so glad that we chose Newton White for our wedding reception - we loved keeping money in the county we live in, and the beauty and versatility of the space blew us away. Attended a book party here 2 years ago for my ex and his mother. His mom wrote a book about him and Autism and how it effects his life. This place was very beautiful and it was perfect for the event. The grounds were very pretty as it is on a golf course. There were people who knew my ex and his mom giving speeches including my 8th grade teacher who also taught him and there was food and a DJ and the ex got to sign the books. The location is amazing but the staff is HORRIBLE. They are not upfront or consistent. When we did the walk through they said I (the bride) could get ready at the location; they forgot to mention that would be $450 an hour to get ready at the location. The lady who was there the day of our wedding had a really nasty attitude and was extremely rude and condescending. We rented chivarri chairs but the cushions were filthy. We had the rental from 4:00 to 11:00pm; the groomsman arrived at 3:15 to take pics at the location; newton white took our deposit to charge us for the time on the property. They are only worried about money and not customer service oriented. Our wedding was blessed and perfect but I would most definitely tell everyone else to stay clear from this location. read more
