Had my first float here about a month ago. It was a great experience. If you've been interested in floating but are hesitant or scared because you're unsure of how it works. Fear not! This place will provide a great first time float experience. The staff is friendly and will show you / tell you everything you need to know and you'll be off floating in just a few minutes. As far as my experience - it was a bit hard to get comfortable at first, but after about 30 minutes my mind really started to relax and the the experience became very enjoyable and recharging. A couple tips - bring ear plugs. Preferably the wax kind used by swimmers. They provide you with some, but they aren't the good kind that keep water from getting in your ears. Also, plan on having a few minutes to just chill after to digest your experience. It can be shocking going straight from a tank to the noisy busy world outside. Give yourself a few minutes to just relax and soak up the calm of the experience. Happy floating! read more

I have been thinking about trying floating for a long time, after much back and forth with myself I decided to give it a go. Booking the appointment was a breeze and the girl at the front desk when I arrived was very nice and helpful. The ambiance of the front was very nice and my room was ready early so that was great since I showed up a bit early. The actual float was a good experience, as a first timer I wasn't sure what to expect and was pleasantly surprised by it. The tank was nice, I was worried I would feel claustrophobic but the little floating light they provide if you want it was perfect. I don't think I'd have an issue with the complete dark in the future. I wasn't able to fully relax most of the time but I think next time it would be a lot easier to do so. The reason for the 3 stars instead of 5 was because of the shower head. To say it was janky would kind of be an understatement. The shower head was a rain one mounted on the ceiling. It was coming apart and was clamped together poorly to make it "useable" I put useable in quotation marks because it really was not very useable at all. I've attached a photo so you can get a feel for what I am talking about. I was a little put off by the rust on it also but I attribute a lot of that to the salty environment of the room. The clamps that were holding the whole thing together were not very effective and water just mostly shot out the sides so there was not a real rain kind of experience. Showering off was an adventure trying to get under the path of the random water coming out the sides by the clamps. I made it work but did have to shower again when I got home. It was kind of a bummer way to end an otherwise nice experience. I will definitely try floating again but I'm just not sure it would be here. read more

One of the most amazing experiences of my life. Edgar is the coolest person and gives the best attention and tour of everything. He did a pineal gland thing on me which was so trippy and mind blowing, I highly recommend it. You feel so good afterwards. You can feel your system circulating in your body. Places that are achy will ache slightly but then feel better after. It feels like floating in space. Don't use the light unless you freak out but then try to turn it back off when you can to get the full experience. Just when you think you are relaxed you drop more and more into relaxing. I originally found this place because of the Pandora Light, but also added a float session while visiting from out of town. The PL was so fascinating as per the owner, your brain creates the colors while you lay down with your eyes closed. It's an experience you have to try to understand. With all that colorful light my brain was creating, I actually dozed off a few times. I did 1 hour session of the PL and 1 of the complete immersion afterwards. I am completely rejuvenated. Also, the owner is really very nice and has experienced both of those himself so he's very knowledgeable about what you can do. I loved this place. For being a floating spa, the tanks are actually nice and don't feel like you're inside a creepy metal entrapment. It was really relaxing. There were no hidden fees, which I appreciated. I went when I was 6 months pregnant and having difficulty sleeping because of the back and joint pain, and walked out feeling light and refreshed. I went for the first time this morning before work. I did 60 minutes because I thought the 90 minutes would be too much for me, a first timer. But the 60 minutes went by way faster than I thought. The whole time in the tank was a trip!......I thought my mind would be racing, but it was completely shut off most of the time. It was a great way to start my morning and actively focus on my life and goals. I really want to improve my meditation skills, so I'm excited to go back many times. Ron, the owner is awesome!! If you're reading this, you most likely already know what it's about: 2 float/isolation/sensory deprivation tanks, 90 minute sessions, relaxation, meditation, perhaps even some border-line psychedelic experiences. Here's some tips/heads-ups: - Don't shave for at least a day or two before your float (remember: there's several hundred pounds of salt in the water). - Don't bother bringing your swimsuit. You'll be doing this nekkid! - If you're a new client, take advantage of one of their introductory offers from Groupon or directly on the website. - Earplugs are provided. - You'll be taking a quick shower/rinse before and after. - The tank is quite large (wide, deep, and very tall). Very interesting experience to say the least! Got a groupon deal at the recommendation of a good friend. I went in for a 90min float session. It was very easy to make an appointment. On the day of my session, we were given very clear instructions on how to float and how to use the float tank, it was good especially for me a first timer. I really like the concept and enjoyed the first 45 min of my session, then I had to go to the bathroom and lost my concentration after that, and the 2nd half of my session was tedious and I probably got no benefit out of it. I've been wanting to do this for months and the opportunity presented itself. I suggest calling in for an appointment, it's getting pretty busy. I came it at 11:45 am for my 12 pm appointment, Ron was busy prepping the room. I signed a waiver, waited at the comfy lounge area then given a brief tour of the UV and Ozone treatment system. Very clean, just how I like my magnesium sulfite. Next, I was taken to the room to first inspect the shower area and was told of the organic soap, shampoo and towels as well as the rack that had earplugs. I highly encourage the ear plugs. Digging Epsom salt out of your ears is a gritty chore unless you're in the first grade and finding it is a treat. After the general talking points were given and a quick rinse, I hopped into the tank. It was a warm, dark transcendental womb. I felt like I was turning in circles one way then the other. (It may be a different experience for you.) After 10 minutes or so, I was dipping in and out of consciousness. I caught myself waking from a dream laughing. When I heard the music playing, I knew the 90 minutes were up. Btw, 90 minutes is quite generous for the price--consider others charge for 1 hour only. I didn't want to leave or maybe I just wasn't ready. The mental clarity I gained instantly was welcomed. I've meditated before but this was a more conducive way of producing theta brainwaves with little effort. Even hours after the treatment, I feel positive, relaxed and tranquil. My body feels relief it hasn't had in a while. I've scheduled another session on New Year's Day. Ron told me about referrals, which I'm more than happy to do. I think the co-workers need it. If you're claustrophobic, afraid of the dark, scared of trying new things, don't support small businesses, you mind your own business too much or whatever medical conditions that may interfere with flotation therapy then don't try it. Research, ask questions (Ron is quite knowledgeable) and give yourself time before committing to something that may be beneficially life altering. Newport Float. Wow I don't really know where to start. Let start with my first experience floating. I was a little nervous. I didn't know what to expect. Friends, family, and coworkers were whispering in my ears what ifs....what if you drown, what if you get claustrophobic, what if something scary comes out the water, what if you get locked in, and the list goes on and on. I booked a 90min for my first time. It was long. Felt like weeks. All those thoughts I mentioned above crossed my mind when I was in the tank. There were a few times I cracked opened the door. I'm not gonna lie. And there were plenty of times I just wanted to get up and run. But I didn't. Instead I let all those negative thoughts drowned and float out of my head. I drifted off a few times. When I came out, I felt like a new person. Like someone just hit the reset button on me. Now I been going 4-5 times a week. Every experience after the first time gets better and better. In August, I booked two 90-minute float sessions at Newport Float Therapy; one for me and one for my husband. I had been diagnosed with severe anxiety disorder two years ago and have been struggling with it and depression for decades. I've been on so many medications that I've lost count. My husband and I hoped that floating would allow me to un-plug from the seemingly constant influx of stimuli and digital information and grant me much needed peace and quiet. After our experiences, we signed up for the highest level of membership available, without hesitation. A stellar perk is the ability to "share" my membership with my family and friends, meaning they can float for free under my account. Totally a no-brainer. I visit Newport Float Therapy weekly and would on a more frequent basis, if I lived closer. I drive approximately an hour each way for my Float Therapy Sessions. I whole-heartedly believe that if I could float 2-3 times each week that I would have no need for my anti-anxiety medications and I've shared this with my psychiatrist. My doctor is going to go float at NFT, because of what I've shared and his research into the float therapy. Newport Float Therapy's ambiance is subtly lit, warm, welcoming, and exceptionally clean. Ron and his staff are client-oriented, making certain that every need is attended to. Personally, I request that my water is heated a degree or two above what is standard. They are also especially courteous regarding booking changes and cancellations. I've introduced many friends and family to NFT, including my legally blind mom, my disabled mother-in-law, my 14 year - old daughter and her friends, as well as a friend who is claustrophobic. Due to Ron and his staff's attention to individual need, everyone has experienced peace and rejuvenation in a safe and comfortable environment. Each has said that they wished we lived closer so that their minds and bodies could rest so well on a regular basis. We've also all enjoyed our Pandora Star Machine sessions. Though two people can share the session, receiving identical sound and light input, they will experience the session entirely differently. In my experience, at least. It's intriguing to me how uniquely our brains process the information. For me, floating before a Pandora Star session is ideal. I've experienced it both ways, but I believe that due to my anxiety disorder that any stimuli before floating creates too much activity in my mind. I've yet to try the infra-red sauna, but that's definitely on my list as I've read great things about it. My visit to Newport Float Therapy was my first experience with a sensory deprivation tank, and it was amazing! After just floating and relaxing for about 30 minutes, I slipped into a dream-like state that was really like nothing I had experienced before. By the end of the 90 minutes, I had completely forgotten what it felt like to move my fingers, and I felt rejuvenated. I would definitely recommend this experience to others. My only slight criticism is that the salt was pretty tough to get off, and the organic liquid soap provided didn't really do the trick for me. The soap was pretty watery in texture. It probably would have been better if wash rags were provided; that would have allowed some method of scrubbing the salt off. However, with only the soap and my hands for washing, I ended up walking out of there with big white salt blotches all over my body. But, this is a really minor complaint; if you schedule your float so that you have nothing to do afterwards, it is easy to just go home and take a shower if you experience the difficulties that I had. read more

I got a groupon for Newport Float. For one float it was less than $40? The facility itself was really clean. We got a little tour of the place and we got to see how everything worked. It was a really relaxing experience. I fell asleep and didn't know until I woke up lol I came out of the tank super calm and relaxed. The water (I felt like towards the end) was getting a little chilly. I felt at my feet was a heater cause it was warmer there. THOSE WHO GET A CRACKLE SOUND IN YOUR EAR(S) AFTER THE FLOAT: It's just the salt in the ear that has dried up. Grab some water and warm it up in the microwave and grab a tablespoon of that hot water. Grab hydrogen peroxide less than 3% and get an equal part (1 table spoon) since the water is hot and the hydrogen peroxide is at room temp, it should be a good warm combo when mixed. Let it sit in your ear for a minute (I didn't have an ear dropper so I had a cotton ball and dripped it in, about 3 drops is what I was aiming for but it just was a stream so after 5 minutes I tilted my head and did the other side.) It should settle that salt crackle in the ear. read more

"They" recommended giving floating at least 3 tries to allow yourself to get used to the experience for maximum benefit. If I had reviewed this business after my first visit, I would have given customer service 5 stars; but overall float experience was a 4. I was booked in what turned out to be one of their smaller rooms, and at 5' 9.5" inches, bumping into the walls of the tank wasn't as relaxing as I had hoped. My second visit, customer service was still a 5, and my float in their largest back room was still a 4; but only because the particular little bench provided in the room at the time was pretty flimsy, which made getting dressed again difficult. Unfortunately my third experience was horrible both customer service and the float. The door to the business was wide open, which wouldn't have matter except it was pretty cold outside and I was booked in the first front room, which also had both the door to the room and the door to the tank wide open. After closing the door to the room, I discovered a used wet towel hanging on the back of the door. I should have just left immediately. But I had been looking forward to the float all morning, so after asking the employee working to remove it. I proceeded with getting undressed, showering in preparation for my float. Given the temperature of the room it wasn't the best experience; and once I got in to float tank, it got worse. The air in the tank was cold and the water in the tank didn't feel warm enough. After less than 5 minutes, I was covered in goose bumps. It was a horrible experience. I had to get out to warm up in the shower. When I complained to the employee, he didn't apologize for the dirty towel or the cold tank and tank room, he explained to me that in his opinion, there was nothing wrong with my float tank or room temperature, that I was just having a bad day! When I told him it wasn't my first float, that I've had good floats in warm rooms with warm tanks, so I know the difference between good experience and a bad one, he smirked as he dismissed me with "you've only been here twice". Thanks. I definitely won't be back and can't recommend this facility. read more

I tried it because my Reiki student and her boyfriend tried it. They went to the pod place, I didn't know the difference when I googled floating in my area. Newport Float came up, I thought it was where they went, and it turned out to be a lucky accident. I was a little nervous at first, with 'sensory deprivation'. But I found that wasn't the case at all--I could feel the water, the floating, and was actually more aware of other experiences of 'BEING' once the distractions were taken away with the darkness and silence. I am not claustrophobic. I meditate daily. I enjoy yoga. So this was a total plus for me to experience this kind of therapy session. To be honest the first session I was a little bored, but when I got out I totally felt the result. It's like having a massage without someone working on you. You feel that relaxed and calm. Although I'm a Reiki master/teacher, I also work in the Operating Room. I know a thing or two about what is clean and what is not. Ron's place is top-of-the-line clean. I'm a Chemical Engineer by training, and Chris S. is right on with his assessment that this is the real thing with industrial class filters, UV disinfection, and chemical monitoring. I don't want to float in somebody else's pee or catch their germs. That is why I feel safe going to Newport Float. If you go you will experience the regenerative essence of yin energy--darkness, soothing, security. This will help to balance the yang of 'go! go! go!' which is overwhelming in our society. It will also give you a chance to get in touch with you, the eternal YOU, your soul essence that is left when everything else is put on hold for a session. That's a good thing. The guy was super nice but the rooms were kind of ghetto. They do have decent quality shampoo and soap. Using a swimmers cap does not keep your hair from getting wet. I didn't want to get it wet because it was recently colored. It's like getting into a dark fridge like room with about 4" it salt water and you just lay there for 90 minuets. Cool experience but I don't think I'd go back. I didn't know to wear ear plugs so I had salt in my ears for weeks. It's also pitch dark. There's a ball light up thing you can bring in with you. But after 30 minutes I just started feeling anxious. There's no music or anything. I mean maybe it's relaxing for some people but not really my thing. Maybe if I could listen to music while laying there it would be more relaxing? Spa like? read more

I bought the groupon which was recommended by a friend. I have stress issues and thought this would be relaxing and a way to recharge. The place is really clean and nicely decorated with a friendly staff. I went a total of 2 times and over all liked it. I found it really difficult to slow my mind down in order to truly benefit however I'm sure just like meditation it comes with practice. The staff takes you through their sterilization process and actually show you how it's done which was comforting. I heartily recommend Newport Float Therapy and its owner, Mr. Ron Becker. I recently moved to Costa Mesa, and am fortunate enough to be just a short stroll from Newport Float Therapy. The space is very clean and easy to get in and out of (the parking lot here is sizable, and it's just off Harbor Dr. and Adams Ave.). Ron does a great job of keeping his two tanks clean, as well as offering sparkling shower and bathroom areas for before and/or after you embark on your 90-minute floating adventure. The tanks are built by LA-based Float Lab, meaning they are top-of-the-line, efficient, clean and cool. I was a bit hesitant to float for 90 minutes at first, but from my experience, you eventually lose track of time and lose yourself in a weightless and warm meditative relaxation experience. The time ends up going by fairly quickly, and it feels closer to an hour than 1.5 hours. I don't want to say too much about my floating experience, as it will differ for everyone. I will just say that for me, it induces and enhances relaxation, peace, happiness, kindness and creativity. Ron also offers a very cool "light bath meditation" experience. I believe it's called Polaris or Pandora, but it reminded me a lot of the "Stargate Sequence" from "2001" - but with a Brian Eno-esque soundtrack to accompany your trip. Also very cool. Newport Float also has some great introductory offers for new clients, and Ron is a very ethical and honest business owner who truly has a passion for what he is doing and offering. I cant say enough good things about NPF. Their staff is superbly helpful and friendly and Ron will take his time to explain all of the details of a float and what makes it so healthy for the body. I am a fan of relaxing as well as pushing my consciousness ... and although I've begun meditating as well ... 90 minutes in the float tank is like a meditation rocket ride. I can clear my head and get into a relax state far quicker inside the tank than with a traditional seated meditation. My friend and I had our first EVER Float Therapy this past Saturday, 8/6/16. Awesome experience ever! As a graduate student, especially in Chiropractic and Acupuncture school, I find holistic ways of taking care or myself and this is definitely one modality of therapy to use! My friend and I booked the early morning session and we thought it was a BAD IDEA being so Early on a Saturday morning but we couldn't be anymore WRONG! Ron greeted us with the utmost respect, answered a plethora of questions and showed us around as well as the details of the filtration system. We left glowing, giggling and super relaxed!
