Quick background... bought a house in February, a real fixer upper, and it had been under heavy renovation for the past 4 months. Spent the last 2 months living with the in laws (stress), dealing with an over budget/time frame renovation (more stress), and putting in hours at the house installing shiplap, painting, organizing, and unpacking (even more stress and sore muscles). FINALLY moved in last week and decided to treat myself to something relaxing. I was going to get the usual massage but then heard about sensory deprivation tanks. Did some research, liked what I read and decided to give it a go. Went with NEWPORT FLOAT THERAPY based on the stellar Yelp reviews. Plus, they offer first timers a deal if you mention Yelp, so even better. Called on Thursday and made a reservation for the following day. Showed up early to read all the info and sign the disclaimers. A few minutes later I was in the tank. I felt like Eleven from STRANGER THINGS, minus the whole 12 year old girl part, and it was a bit trippy/cool at first. It's amazing how easily you float. You are warned about scratching anywhere near your eyes because the salt water burns if it gets in your eye. I forgot and relieved an itch above my left eye, which allowed a bead of water to travel down to the inner corner of my eye. Yes, it burned. I had to get out and rinse, but luckily it happened about 10 min in. Got back inside and about 20 min later I was zoned out. It was easily one of the most relaxing experiences ever. I heard a knock which let me know my time was up. I got out, showered and was completely rejuvenated. NEWPORT FLOAT THERAPY is an awesome place. The owner is super nice and willing to explain anything and everything to you. The facility is clean and the experience was amazing. If you've never floated and your not afraid of 90 minutes of silence and darkness, you have to try this. It is the most relaxing and revitalizing therapy you can get. They used to call these 'sensory deprivation tanks' which sounds a little spooky but truly it's just like floating in your mom's belly in utero when she's having a quiet night. Ok, no heartbeat except your own. Every few minutes you realize another group of muscles that can relax and you might even fall asleep. No worries, you can't sink or drown. Sooo wonderful. read more

The experience was great, the tanks and the facility are clean and well maintained, the staff is very friendly and knowledgeable about their industry, always a plus! Ron and his associate were very nice and went out of there way to try and accommodate our group. I have floated on 2 other occasions at another facility (Serenity Float Palm Springs) and the facility was way clean, the tanks had built in lights that would illuminate the water (You could tell it was clean), it smelled pleasant. The facility at Newport Float doesn't have the same amenities, feel as clean or well kept. Overall, it was OK. It just took a while to get comfortable because it smelled unusual, the rooms weren't very polished, and the tank was pitch dark stepping in. read more

My goodness this was an amazing experience & I highly recommend everyone to try this at least once in their life. This entire facility was clean and the use of high quality filtration system proved very impressive. The private rooms allow you to fully submerge in the zone of relaxation. In short: I LOVE this place. I've been to other float locations before and none even come close to this. Ron, the owner, is so nice and personable and made me feel right at home. They offer a ton of amenities (like organic soap and shampoo and even a hair dryer) and are very accommodating with your schedule (offer early morning and late night floats). It's a luxurious and fun experience from start to finish to say the least. I have a sensory problem where lights, sounds and sensations are super overwhelming for me. I also have a neurological chronic pain disorder that comes with its own baggage of anxiety amongst other things. Floating has made these conditions so much better. In the float tank, I have a tendency of falling into a super deep sleep/relaxation state and when I come out, it's like I've hit the reset button on my body. Bright light and sound is much more tolerable and it relieves tension in my body. Needless to say, I got a monthly subscription after my first float at NPT. I'll never go anywhere else. I was skeptical about floating, thinking it was just the new, trendy thing to do, but it has changed my life. My chronic pain, anxiety, and sensitivity is almost COMPLETELY MANAGED without medication. For people with fear of dark or small places, they've got you covered. For starters, you don't have to close the door completely to your tank unless you want to, and you can get out at any time. They also have these cute little orbs that you can put in the water with you that slightly illuminate the tank. I highly recommend Newport Float. From their top of the line float tanks to their super friendly staff, they blow the doors off of their competition. If you're looking for a place to relax and and rejuvenate your body, this is it. I liked this place sooo much! That I bought a membership! Infrared sauna to keep me young & help my sore muscle & open the pores so I can go into the water float therapy with magnesium & epsom salt do help me sore muscle & other benefits too I noticed immediate result thus why I keep coming back... I drive a lot for work & stuck in traffic & my butt sore so I diagnosed it as gluteus syndrome. I am an athletic, workout & dance 6-7x a week so I get sore muscle. I have nothing but the highest recommendation for Newport Float! If you haven't check out a sensory deprivation tank and am looking to try it, I will highly recommend you to go through Ron at Newport float. Aside from the obvious relaxation and recovering effect, sensory deprivation tank is also a very effective way to get your mind organized and reset your thoughts. Newport Float is the only facility in in Southern California that uses the Float lab technology aside from the original float center in Venice beach. ( Don't go to the 2nd tier pod float tanks out there, they recycle the water, and it's not the best idea for your health, so you may be doing yourself a disservice by using them). The owner Ron is very friendly and highly knowledgeable, he can answer any concerns that you may have about Newport Float. The Pandora Star is everything! I did a couples session with a good friend. We went in, they set the music, we laid down and that is went the trip started!!! Shapes, colors ... the feeling of flying!!! It was amazing ... I didn't want it to end. When the session was over an hour had passed by but it felt like only 5 minutes. Highly recommend!! I found Newport Float Therapy through Groupon. I've been wanting to try floating for a while now but was afraid because of a bunch of ridiculous things I'd conjured up in my head. I have issues with insomnia, anxiety and depression and finally decided to give it a shot to see if it would give me a little relief from these things. I started my session with the PandoraStar and I will DEFINITELY be doing that before all future float sessions. I didn't know what to expect with this weird light contraption but I went in with an open mind. Sometime during that 30 minutes on the massage table while listening to relaxation music and feeling like I was flying through space, I fell asleep. But...I was awake the entire time. It was trippy. And relaxing. Asleep & awake at the same time...is that what meditation is like? I wouldn't know because I've never been able to get my noisy brain to quiet down long enough to mediate. I can't describe how I felt afterwards because I've never felt that way before. I was calm afterwards & excited for my float. I went next door to my float room. Ron, the owner, explained everything to me before leaving me alone for the next 90 min. I got undressed, rinsed off in the shower and hopped in to the float chamber. I've never floated in any body of water in my life. (I've sunk like a stone anytime I've ever tried to float.) It's impossible NOT to float in the tanks. With 800+ pounds of salt in there, you're crazy buoyant and your body pops right up to the top. Being alone in silence with just your thoughts while floating naked in the dark is one of the most incredible things you will ever experience. When my brain started thinking about other things, I kept reminding myself to be present. Focusing on my breathing and my heartbeat really helped. A few times I drifted off and sort of instinctively snapped myself out of it. I became very aware of how hard of a time I have relaxing in general. We're so connected. I'm typing this right now with 12 tabs open on my computer. I came out of the session to several missed calls and texts (and I ignored all of them!) I'm looking forward to relaxing no longer being something I have a problem doing. (I'm a proud multi-tasker. If I'm not doing 3 things at once, I feel like I'm failing.) Oh, I had a little itch on my eyebrow and scratched it. WHEW. Don't do that! LOL! I had to open the door and grab the spray bottle that's hanging right outside of it and rinse the salt off of my face. I did this twice. Keep your hands out of your face if you can. I honestly might wear goggles next time so that I don't have this issue again. :) Before I knew it, my 90 min float was over (Ron gently knocked on the wall to let me know my session was coming to a close.) I got out and felt different. More relaxed than I can remember feeling in ages. Almost like I'd just had a massage + a glass of wine and a really good nap. I felt light and it took me a while to shower & get my bearings. The drive home was super chill. I didn't listen to any music. I've been off of my phone ever since I left there 7 hours ago. It felt so amazing disconnecting like that for 2 hours. I want to stay disconnected for the rest of the evening. I feel calm. I came home and took an incredible nap which is something I NEVER do because naps aren't productive! But that's what my body wanted. I need to listen to my body more. If 1 session can make me feel this fantastic, I can't imagine what regular sessions can do for me. (I've been in a major depressive state for the past few weeks and this is the first time I haven't felt like the sky is falling.) If you've been thinking about trying this, give it a shot. Don't just go once tho. The first session you figure it all out...you discover that it's not weird or scary and that you're not going to drown in a few inches of water. Your face is out of the water the entire time. You're not going to accidentally roll over. All of the ridiculous what ifs are out the window. I can't wait to go back for my next session now that I know what to expect and how awesome it is. read more

Hello float family! So this is something I have been wanting to experience for a long time now, and I finally got the chance to have my first float yesterday. I was definitely excited, and a little nervous, to be alone with my own thoughts for an hour (I have suffered from anxiety for years now). However, I went in with a positive attitude and an open mind. I called and booked my appointment with the owner Ron. He was very helpful and even scheduled me for a PandoraStar meditation session before my first float. When I went in for my appointment, I was greeted by a VERY helpful and kind woman, I believe her name was Daniella. She was so amazing. She explained everything perfectly and made me feel comfortable. First off, everyone should try the PandoraStar session. It was unlike anything I have ever experienced. It is hard to put into words how relaxed it makes you feel. I literally felt like I was in heaven, pure euphoria! After the PandoraStar, I was shown to my float room. The room has it's own shower and all the amenities you could need or want for your experience. I entered the float and before I knew it, the music was on and it was time to go. I found it difficult in the beginning of the float to focus strictly on the present, but when I did, it was amazing. I came out of the float so relaxed, almost disoriented (in a good way!), from the relaxation. Physically I felt amazing (all of my tension and soreness was gone). Mentally I felt at peace and almost enlightened. I will definitely be coming back for another float, and I am already looking forward to my next experience. I went in on a Saturday morning w/no expectations, & left feeling fantastic!! The relaxation I felt that morning lasted all weekend! I could feel my body literally releasing tension! I've always had this thought, " I wish we could just THINK our stress & soreness away" & honestly I felt that's what happened during my float session . My body was so relaxed I could feel it all the way down into my muscle groups , allowing the tension in between those small spaces to release!! The tanks are super clean w/more than one highly advanced filtration system! The room I was in was very clean as well! Uhh I just can't say enough great things about this place! Hi, Patrick W's review really nails it. Read his before mine (or cross-reference it) as it'll save me a ton of typing. Ha! (Thanks, Patrick W!). I give 5 stars to Omaur, the guy who worked there. I believe he's not there any more, so there's no way I'm going back. You know, a great employee is a real asset to a company, and Omaur was phenomenal in his costumer service and also in his overall attitude/enthusiasm/personality. Why 3 less stars? Well, I'll summarize, and Patrick W's review explains in more detail. -- air very thick and hard to breathe -- I do all sorts of advanced energy stuff and I couldn't get "in the zone" either. -- The inside of the tank looks outright YUCKY and creepy. Now, this is my first float-tank experience... but do they all have weird pipes and stuff inside that you are touching? And lined with a big black plastic bag? Felt so yucky/creepy bumping into that stuff. -- Pandora Star -- volume didn't really work. Could hear loud machinery right there as well. And SUPER ICE COLD air conditioner blasting full strength right on me. Two stars, as defined by yelp is, "Meh. I've experienced better." This is the case. I wouldn't call the float tank and Pandora experience I had "A-Ok." As I see the business owner cares, here's how you could improve: 1. Get float tanks that don't have weird pipes inside of them. And no plastic bags lining the whole things. 2. Don't blast ice-cold air on the bed where people lie down for Pandora star. 3. Don't have loud pump/filter noises @ Pandora star. 4. Do whatever it takes to retain people like Omaur (I'm guessing pay? I didn't ask. He just told me that he was nostalgic that I was his "last customer" as he was leaving soon.... but from what I know in the world, if you want someone great, you gotta pay them what they are worth.) 5. Too many specials/deals/coupons!!!. As I was there a while, I saw 3 other people go in/out. Everyone had a different special. And on the counter there are 4 or 5 cards with different details. I REALIZED THAT THE GROUPON I USED WAS EITHER THE SAME, OR EVEN MORE EXPENSIVE THAN THE NORMAL DEALS OFFERED!! That's about it. I wouldn't go back. I'll try other float tanks. read more

NFT is my favorite place to float in Southern California. I especially like the Owner Ron! He is great at making you feel at home when you come to visit the shop. The Concrete Style float rooms are the coolest they give off a great atmosphere and make you feel like you've stepped into another realm away from all of the ordinary things in life. This place is mellow and friendly, offers an unusual experience, and is reasonably priced; but the sensory deprivation experience isn't really my thing. It gets kinda boring pretty fast, even in the 60-minute session. This place is very clean and well managed, so I recommend it if you're into this sort of thing, or lead a hectic life from which you need to escape. Everyone should probably try it once to check it out. I think it would have been better with music, or trippy visuals -- but that wouldn't be sensory deprivation any more, would it?
