I loved that everything was put in paper bags, not plastic. I read that the market has been around since the 9th century, which I loved knowing. A short walk down the hill brings you to beautiful neighborhoods with cobblestone roads and the huge cathedral. It's a lovely area overall.

You can find everything from brilliant pies (Raven's Den in particular), awesome cheese (Lincolnshire Poacher and others), fresh veggies (Earthworks and others), fresh fish and meats... not to mention cupcakes and other sweet treats! We usually start by getting a coffee for the husband from the vendor with the mobile coffee bar (the machine is in the back of his van), and then wander the markets and end at the Merchant for a cup of tea for me. As long as there is a rainbow biscuit on the way even our toddler is happy.

I went in 2 different times: saturday at 3pm and wednesday at 10am. Two completely different vibes. I tried the famous sandwich from the black pig, viral chocolate covered strawberries and bread ahead. Black pig - the best one sandwich: it was AMAZING!!! I was a bit scared to get this since i was by myself but let me tell you, it was not heavy as i expected it to be. Just delicious overall and would totally recommend. Chocolate strawberries: I love strawberries and chocolate but definitely think you can find cheaper alternatives anywhere in london. Bread Ahead: my new favorite pastry place. I pretty much got a donut from this place (not this location) everyday because the black currant cheesecake donut was that good. I got the tiramisu and crème brûlée donut which my brother liked and i wish i could've tasted them before they went bad but anyways, I would totally recommend the donuts from here! Their chocolate chips cookies are HUGE and delicious as well. This was probably one of my favorite markets!

I understand this place was rebuilt after a fire, and although the car park was well used ,there did not appear many people inside the market itself, although outside the back there were many greenhouses and also a number of concessionary sections with a restaurant and a tea shop were you could find some of the visitors. There was only one till working, certainly not a queue anywhere. There was a Peacocks within the grounds under the address of Farnham County Market. I did learn about the owner, and I understand progress has been curtailed. however i was left to myself to wander without hindrance.

I live locally to the Country Market, and have shopped there for over twenty years. Today, as I was buying some (overpriced) muesli for my mother, I was accosted by the wife of the owner and accused of picking up sweets and not paying for them. I said she could search my bag if she wished, but she just asked an assistant to check the security footage. I told her I had been coming here for years, and she said she knew my face. She said 'we'll see', then asked me if I was a buyer or a seller at the car boot sale, and left. No apology, no presumption of innocence, no apparent desire to retain loyal customers. So I would advise anyone: go the car boot sales, they are good, but give the Country Market itself a miss.

However, I came across while making my way to the tram stop on the south side of town to get back to Wimbledon It's an old fashioned fruit and veg market but the quality does vary quite widely with commensurate difference in price. Just beware that if something seems too good to be true, it probably is too good to be true However, with many stalls to gander at, there is ample opportunity to pick out some good yet quality bargains, especially as most stallholders seem happy to let you pick and choose your own produce In addition, there are some bric a brac stalls and some food stalls selling mainly ethnic food I hope there's always space for places like this

I didn't think it was much at the time when I lived in South Croydon, but now I really do miss places like this. I miss wandering "down to town" and passing this market and then wandering pass it again on the way home. It was a great place, full of vibrant people, a decent selection of stalls including ones that sold fresh fruit and veg, bags, purses, books, watches, pendants, antiques, flowers, specialty foods and the list goes on. In general, the number of stalls increased during the weekends. As with most outdoor markets, there's potential for haggling if you're into that kind of thing. There's also a lot of trash, but beauty is in the eye of the beholder... keep your eyes peeled for bargains in the summer, such as freshly plucked berries at an amazing price! Towards closing time (around 5:00 pm), there were lots of bargains that could be had: 1 pound for this or 1 pound for that. That is if you can understand the locals, screaming in cockney rhyming slang. There is nearby street parking, but the best bet would be to park near the city centre and walk down. I was lucky enough to live within walking distance of this market.
