Cabin number 4 has brand new king and queen beds, comfortable couches, and a great view! The fishing from the shore was great too!!! You can also use the dock if you have a boat. HIghly recommend cabin #4! read more

Let me start by saying we have enjoyed making trips to the White River in the past and have always had a great experience. We planned a father sons fishing trip with 2 other father and son duos. It was our 11 and 12 year olds first time to ever trout fish. We were told we would be able to wade out at the location. Unfortunately that was not true and the water drops off rapidly at the bank. That's ok, we fished from the bank. Only one trout was caught on our 3 days there but that's fishing. The amenities are a little less than you would expect given the price but again...it's a fishing cabin and certainly no resort. However, a mistake made during booking online is where our sub par experience turned to a terrible one. To keep it short and simple 2 kids under the age of 11 were left off of the online application. To which WE brought to the owners attention at check out only to have the owner state we were dishonest and charge an extra $240 to our trip. It is clear the owners here are not interested in your fishing experience but rather making as much money as they can while misrepresenting a so called grand fishing experience. I cannot in good faith recommend this place to anyone looking to catch fish from the bank, enjoy scenic White River views, or have a quality experience with family and friends. read more

If you're looking for a fancy, pristine, immaculate lodge and foie gras... you're looking at the wrong place. If you want a place to spend amazing quality time with your family with a staff who feels like family, please stay at Newlands Lodge. Everyone from the owner himself, the cook, the manager, to the guides (and I'll get to him later), makes you feel home. A quiet, comfortable, RELAXING version of home. The food (if you choose to have them cook for you) is so delicious. Cooked over an open flame by the river and eaten outside, can't beat it. Pancakes, eggs, steak, hush puppies, fresh caught fried fish... and don't get me started on that pecan pie. Heavenly. The lodges are clean. The fireplaces are a delightful treat after a long day of fishing. The showers are hot. The beds are comfy. The air works great. The towels are fluffy. KID FRIENDLY. Brought my 1 year-old daughter and she happily crawled and walked around everywhere comfortably. My Three year old could have moved in if we let him. The fishing. The fishing brings you back year after year. Not just the fact that you catch great big 'ol daddies... but the guides are KNOWLEDGABLE, PATIENT, HELPFUL, FRIENDLY, GENEROUS, and just overall AMAZING. I would STRONGLY SUGGEST you request DARRELL. I can't count the amount of fish we all caught. I actually can't count them. He taught my husband how to tie a new knot on his line. Never rushed us or made us feel like we were just a dollar in his pocket. This man LOVES what he does. Incredibly helpful. Incredibly patient. And this dude knows fish. Spends his free time just patrolling the river taking note of the trout's patters. Low or high water, Darrell knows his stuff. Seriously. Can't decide where to go trout fishing? May 2019. - Accommodations were excellent. Great river view. Friendly staff. Did not empty trash all week. No towel service all week. No bed linen change all week. Hope our experience was the exception. Smoke alarms and bathroom vent fans were not operational. No one in the office from Friday afternoon until Monday morning. read more

We typically use Airbnb for our larger family gatherings. We do this annually and have always had wonderful experiences. We have RV camped at the White River State park for years and just love the area. For this trip, we used VRBO for the first time and were very disappointed with our experience. First of all, be aware that you are charged $60 per person for each night if you have over 5 people. I missed that information in the small print when I booked. We had a family member that decided to come with us and I was charged an additional $263 as we ended up with 6 people. I have never had that happened before. This was a big expense that we were not expecting. This is an old house, but is spacious. When we arrived, there were ants all over the porch and railing and we had to buy our own ant spray the first night. The host did bring ant trap after we informed her of situation. -Oven is old fashioned (doesn't work right, burned everything we made) -Poorly Stocked Kitchen *No mixing bowls, baking pans, colander, measuring cups of any kind (only had a single 1/2 cup). No pizza pan, hand mixer, kettle, griddle. There were a couple of cooking pots and pans. A couple small cookie sheets. We did mention our need for several of these items and the hosts did bring us some bowls and a casserole pan. -3 Lightbulbs were out our first night and we had to replace them, luckily we were able to find extra bulbs in a closet -Electric outlets in the kitchen + oven light didn't work the 1st night. We had to hook up the coffee pot in the bathroom the first day (we were able to figure out how to reset the outlets later the next day and this fixed the problem) - You are closely observed while you stay on the property and this was uncomfortable. The hosts did respond to requests for items, but we felt that we were having to contact them frequently. If we knew all these things going in we would not have paid the price to stay here as it was definitely not worth the money. I would not recommend this. read more

In short, we would highly recommend avoiding this lodging based on our experience. Our father, son trip (3 fathers & 4 sons 9-12 yrs of age) ended with an unfortunate interaction with the owner. An honest mistake was made when booking, which I acknowledged at checkout - two of the youngest children were inadvertently left off of the VRBO reservation. Mrs. Newland aggressively called me dishonest, claiming we intentionally left guests off of the reservation. She then immediately charged an additional $240 to my card, which was a 30% increase to our lodging expense (to cover a 9 & 11 yr-old). I travel frequently for work and with my family - and I found this exchange with anyone in the hospitality industry deeply disturbing. We have been to the White River multiple times over years and this was our first time as guests at a Newlands owned property. We have found the White River community to be very warm and accommodating. We would highly recommend visiting the White River; however, we felt it worth our time to share this experience for others making travel arrangements. read more
