I've been a Newbury Comics customer for 30 years. I primarily shop for music. I discovered this location maybe 12 years ago and at the time it was a gold mine, I used to leave with arms full of purchases. I check in there about once a month now and must times I leave empty handed. The vinyl section is still robust but ever since records starting making a comeback the prices have jumped outlandishly. I see records for sale there that I bought for half the price. The CD section seems to be dwindling down which is depressing for me to see. There used to be a large shelf filled with box sets that has disappeared. The prices for new CDs have also jumped substantially, which is odd for a format that has become dormant. Years ago it was a 5 star store but now it's a 3 for me personally. read more

Newbury Comics - Pokémon cards - Comic Books Near Me - Norwood, Massachusetts

This is a great place to find collectibles/gifts and not just comics. For example, they carry Kpop merch, vinyl records, anime, plushies, figures, blind boxes, and other odds and ends (the place reminds me a bit of Hot Topic, except not as claustrophobic). They carry merch for beloved franchises such as Star Wars, Pokemon, Totoro/Studio Ghibli, Pusheen, Rick and Morty, Harry Potter, Stranger Things, etc. Personally, I like to come here for the Amuse plushies (Amuse is the Japanese company that sells the most adorable alpacasso, hamster, and rabbit plushies). You can find the Amuse plushies online, but there's just something satisfying about knowing how soft/fluffy they are before buying. They also carry San-X plushies (Rilakkuma, Sumikko Gurashi, etc). They also have these giant food shaped cushions that are highly popular in Japan (giant slices of meat, sushi, etc). The icing on top of the cake is the fact that I came with my friend, who is visiting from Europe and likes to collect coins. When we checked out, we paid with cash and asked the staff if they could let us pick out some "newer" coins/state quarters, and not only did they say sure, they actually laid out every single coin from their register. (Don't worry, we made sure we weren't holding up any lines.) Anyway, the fact that they were so accommodating with such an odd request really made my day. This place definitely gets an A+ for superior service. read more

I recently just bought a turntable and it's the first one I've had in a while. I decided to stop by Newberry comics In Norwood. As I walk in there's a bunch of trash on the floor so I picked it up. One of the clerk watches me place it on the counter. Apparently I didn't see the trashcan nearby. After walking around the store for at least 30 minutes, I go to check out with a few records. As I am trying to pay at the counter, the trash conscious clerk confronts me me for putting the trash on the counter and points out a nearby garbage can. I pick up the trash and throw it away and I politely explain to him that I picked it up off the floor as I walked in. I didn't get a thank you or a sorry......I just got a shitty attitude. Kind of a small thing, but it bugged me. Posting this is better than telling the clerk what I would have liked to. read more

Really fun location - it seemed bigger than most of the stores you see in the malls. They had a working Zoltar fortune machine and I couldn't resist for 75 cents. My fortune read like 20 fortune cookies randomly arranged in a word salad and it was a lot of fun to hear Zoltar speak. There's just tons of stuff at this location. Lots and lots of Pops but also a huge graphic novel section and an equally huge vinyl section. Some of the stuff in the discount room was broken and stained so not much of a great buy - they might want to take a look at how that's stocked. Otherwise, a super fun store to browse so I'll be back next time I'm in the area. Maybe Zoltar will have a new fortune for me! read more

This is definitely my favorite Newbury Comic location. They are huge and tend to have the best selection of music, movies, and apparel. They also have 2 old school arcade machines, a pinball machine, and a Zoltar! The employees are great, and we were able to carry in our dog with no problem. read more

This is sadly the only Newbury Comics I still shop at. At one point in time, Newbury was the place to go for music. I owe Newbury Comics 15+ years of being a metal fan. I spent everything I had every week buying up all the crazy obscure metal releases I could find. Then Newbury turned into more of a place to buy hip Tee Shirts and skinny jeans... The Norwood location is big, and it's one of the last locations that's chock full of cds, vinyl, and movies, of all genres. Being a metal head I'll say they have a great selection of rock and metal. This place has everything. And when I say everything I mean EH-VA-RY THA-ING... arcade games, cafe, bathrooms, kid's toys, clothing, video games, huge comic room, books, japanese toys, movies, magazines, accessories, candy, they even have the talking fortune telling machine from the movie BIG... no joke! My sister and I were on our way to the Wrentham outlets when we passed this place and we freaked out once we saw the size and went in. We were not disappointed. They even has this figurine of Unico (an obscure Japanese cartoon character from the late 70's that I happen to have a tattoo of on my ass) that I've only seen at the Tezuka Museum in Kyoto. This Newbies is amazing, might be the ONLY good thing about Norwood. read more

This Newbury Comics has ruined all others for me, there are a few reasons why but number 1 is VINYL. Newbury Comics really doesn't need an explanation or introduction, everyone knows they are THE place to buy cds, trinkets, memorabilia, gag gifts, subculture clothing brands, interesting books and comics, and to sell media you no longer wish to have a physical copy of. All of the locations I have been to have had piddly vinyl and comic sections, but the Norwood store dedicates a large alcove to comics, and the back left quadrant of the store to Vinyl, both new and used. This is also the only location to consign or sell used vinyl to as well! The layout is pretty easy to follow, and they do scour through what they are selling to ensure a quality that can be played on most record players. I personally will also go through their 99 cent bins, as I have a Newcomb record player that can play items that look like they've been skidded across a parking lot. I am unsure if the vinyl (or if newbury actually follows their old pricing markdowns at all anymore) but I have found items that have been there a while, and have been marked down appropriately, if not drastically. Why have I decided to finally write a review? The haul I had last night. A brand new king khan and the shrines album marked down, the new lawrence arms, the screaming females/garbage split, a 4 album motown collection, Elton Montello's Pop Art, and the creme of the crop, a Rhino Reissue of the Monkee's 1968 album HEAD that was under a $20 price point. This is a BFD. The rhino reissues are even hard to come by, and at that I typical see them around $30 when a physical copy is available. Yes this location is seemingly out of the way, but it is such a treat to stop in after work in Norwood once in a while. read more

AWESOME. If I am every looking for some sort of specialty nerd item, this is the place to go! The location is huge with a great selection of everything. They have a huge area of movies and music obviously but also all the nerdy essentials that one may be seeking. So happy this store is close by. They got everything!! Dont know if anyone else thought of this but it's far cheaper than downloads. Buy them used. Burn them, then sell them back. Only complaint is the comic book racks. They need to build a better system. It seems like they designed it to fit as many comics as humanly possible in such a small section. In the process even the most skilled hands will be unable to pull a comic out of the bottom racks without breaking the spine or just plain ruin the comic. I know this isn't New England Comics but some collectors this is the only game in town. They need to do something to keep the comics in better sellable condition. read more

Some retailers have different types of stores. For instance, Walmart has regular Walmart stores and Walmart Supercenter stores. Newbury Comics also has this, yet they don't advertise which of their stores are "super", and which are regular. The Norwood location could not be closer to a "super" Newbury Comics. I have yet to find another Newbury Comics store such as the HUGE Norwood location. This store is not only huge, but has an amazing selection of everything. DVD's, gifts, accessories, magnets, bumper stickers, CD's, comics, and so, so, so much more. Staff are always around and always extremely friendly and knowledgable about products and are able to tell you where things are in the store, and where someone could find something if they didn't have it (in the past, they had been out of some DVD's I was looking for, and later found in the smaller, Bellingham store). Large parking lot, and just a fun great place to shop at. Definitely a great place to look for some gifts as well! Located on Route 1 in Norwood, just south of Pendergast Circle (Norwood Rotary). 5 stars. read more

This store is HUGE! They have everything here that can be found at every other NC, times 10! Ok, I may be exaggerating a bit on that last part, but this store really is huge. I think this is the largest Newbury Comics. All the CDs and DVDs are grouped in typical NC fashion with new and used together. So, as a consumer, when you find the title you like, you get to decide right there and then whether to buy new or used if available. There's also a good-sized section dedicated to blu-ray titles. There's even a section where you can find vinyl records. Way in the back there's nice little children's section where you can find all kinds of DVDs as well as toys and puzzles from Melissa and Doug. They even set some games up on a couple of Ikea children's tables for the little ones to be entertained while mommy and/or daddy shop. There is a separate comic books section, but I thought it was limited. Throughout the store are all kinds of knick knacks and posters. It wouldn't be a Newbury Comics without that. Finally, there's even a "cafe" up front with snacks and beverages. It's pretty limited, so it's really more like a snack bar where you can find croissants, whoopie pies and other baked goods. Price-wise, it's no different than any other store. You can get great values in used CDs and DVDs. Man, NC has come such a long way. This coming from a guy who used to spend hours combing through their comic books at the original location on Newbury Street back in the early 80's. They just keep getting better and better. Great prices! Great deals! You have to search the bins, but the deals are there. I have saved a lot buying the used CDs and DVDs, and I have never had an issue with the products. Check the sales: I have gotten fairly new, special edition DVDs for under $10. When those sales happen, the selection is small, but the prices can't be beat. The comic selection is the best around. They have almost all the new issues, and a good amount of recent back issues. They also have a good selection of action figures. Great service, too! They always help me find whatever I need, and the staff is always very friendly and professional. I'm in my forties, and it refreshing being treated like a gentleman by people twenty years my junior. Of all their locations, the Norwood Newbury Comics is by far, THE BEST! Let me qualify that statement. Newbury Comics doesn't need much of an introduction... if you are buying a PHYSICAL cd, or dvd, and live in new england, you're either buying from Amazon, or Newbury Comics (or god forbid... FYE... in which case, WHAT IS WRONG WITH YOU!?!?). But I think it's fair to say that not every Newbury Comics location is up to snuff. Some are kind of cramped. Others don't do a great job of keeping comics and cds in stock. Most NB Comics emphasize certain departments at the expense of other areas (example: the natick mall location is more geared towards apparel and novelty items). But the Norwood location has none of these weaknesses. It may be a little out of the way, but the space is huge, and so they clearly haven't had to make any kind of sacrifice like their other locations. cds, dvds, fashion, novelty items, a HUGE video games display section (though I noticed this was cleared out this past weekend. renovations maybe?). Everything is well stocked, well organized, and available in abundance. The comic section is very crisp, and unlike a lot of other locations, everything is easy to find, and not overly shuffled around (damn comic nerds!). But what makes this location special is it's HUGE VINYL SECTION!!! This by itself makes the trip worth it. New, used, classic, it's all here, and well sorted. You might feel guilty going to newbury comics when you could be going to "joe blow's super stuffy scattered vinyl emporium and bomb museum", but when you don't have an entire afternoon to devote to going through random boxes and floor piles, this is the better option. But don't worry, there's plenty of milk crates to go through if you're hunter/gatherer instinct gets the better of you. Also, there's a courtesy record player set up if you want to make sure that those used records still sounds good after years of use. So yeah... if you have a car, and want to go to newbury comics, this is the one to go to. The end. read more

Thank God. They opened this place, and it was good. Newbury Comics: You are awesome. ALL the other record stores died (ok, some deserved to) but you stayed around. Not only that, but you expanded. This store is enormous and they have all kinds of stuff aside from music. They even buy and sell used vinyl. Yes, it's true. My one suggestion would be to carry a wider variety music. They definitely do a good job of packing the store with more than your average selection, but i'd like even more of the "listen to this? then listen to that." They have live music, open mic night, and host all kinds of other events. It's great to have close to home, but I'd travel to this place even if it wasn't. So keep it up, Newbury Comics. Newbury Comics is one of my favorite stores and it has been for years. I first walked into this location and it was "HUGE." The place was so big, a group of people set up a table in the back and they were playing a game of cards. I walked around in there shopping for about an hour. They have tons of T-shirts displayed on the wall, clothing, CDs, DVDs, and video games. There was a ton of music memorabilia, games and toys. There was also a separate room for the comic books. But, I stick to the CDs, DVDs, magazines and music memorabilia when I shop there. The prices are reasonable, and the staff is very friendly. If you love Newbury Comics, take the time to visit this particular location. read more

I love this store as does my husband. We are both big comic book fans, and I love the comic book room. My only major complaint is that I have gotten there before 10 on more than one occasion and you closed early. Yes I understand that it was 9:51 or something close to that, but seriously not cool. I get it. I used to work in retail management and I just wanted to close up and go home. If I am showing up that close to closing time then chances are I'm looking to buy something and leave. I also don't appreciate being followed around the store anytime after 9:30 with constant reminders of the fact you are closing soon. I can read the hours. I am a regular customer. I've been a patron of Newbury Comics for the better part of 10 years. I started going to the Newton Branch and have since migrated to the Norwood location as my go-to store. The staff has been nothing but helpful and the selection of new and used DVDs and vinyl is the best around. It's the perfect spot to pop in for a quick errand or to hang out and sift through the great merchandise that fill the shelves. A great store that has the perfect balance of vintage and new age. read more

If you have ever been to a Newbury Comics they are pretty cool and loaded with CDs, comics of course and DVDs and other crazy stuff from TV and movies etc. This location proves to be the largest of any I have visited and has the largest selection of vinyl new and used than I have ever seen, taking up the back half of the gigantic store. They also have a large selection of used DVDs and tons of toys and books and games. The staff is also very friendly at this location and helpful. If you have not visited this location, I would make it a point since it is easy to get to on Route 1 in Norwood on the Automile. The only thing is not too much foot traffic with this location so hopefully it stays open. read more

The largest Newbury Comics location has some surprises in store for die-hard Newbies shoppers. If you are looking for great gift-giving ideas, this is the location to check out. Their DVD selection, especially box sets, is not as vast as some other smaller locations, and is awkwardly organized in a small corner of the store. Comics are also not a huge staple here, and they are unusually sparse when it comes to show posters. However, if you're looking for footwear, novelties or vinyl, this is the place. They have a great shoe section, styled like an actual shoe store. The vinyl collection is impressive. It makes me want to get a turntable myself. And as for novelty gifts or accessories, this place does it right. Everything is organized really well, and since they have so much square footage, it is not as claustrophobic or messy as some other locations tend to feel. There's even some pinball machines in the back. Whenever I'm nearby, I make a pit stop at this Newbies, it's worth a look. read more

This Newbury Comics location is my favorite one hands down, the place is huge and they have an awesome selection of vinyl records and cd's as well as dvd's. The local sports memorabilia is also impressive too and the prices are pretty good. It can be kind of tricky to get to but it's well worth the trip. read more

Okay, so my boy-toy is a music critic. Our apartment is filled with his Cd's and is quickly becoming more cramped with my new found love of vinyl. Just as an example of the craziness: P-Z of his collection is now in our dining room on one of those shelves you can get at Best Buy that hold something like 1046 CD's or 798 DVDs, and he is in desperate need of another one; you can get from his chair to the door and vice versa in his office, and not much further due to the stacks of CD's on the floor. That being said it is needless to add that we are both HUGE Newb's fans and this one in the top five best around. Some features that makes this location full of awesome: - Immediately to the right when you walk in there are two classic arcade platforms. One of which is a split Pac-Man/Galaga. I forget what the other is. - They have "The Cyber Cafe", which is this little part that you can sit and have coffee and a snack while enjoying their free wi-fi. - Their collection of Criterion Collection movies is nothing to sneeze at, as far as the Criterion Collection goes anyway. - Vinyl collection is not bad; not awesome, but not bad; definitely one of the larger selection of the Newbs' around. It is also priced accordingly, I walked out of there with 3Lp's and a couple other things for just under $72. If you are looking for some steals, this really isn't the place, that being said, neither do they inflate the price on you. If it is rare it will be priced as such but not over. - A whole nook of comic book-ness. - BATHROOMS! - A large selection of funky T-shirts (and for a Newbury Comics, that is saying something) - Staff that actually care about what they do, not washed up locals, or fukitol college kids. - They have a Zoltar. Nuf said. This Newb's is kind of a hike for us, but we go every now and again because you can easily spend 5 hours there without noticing. The distance thing is why it is 4 instead of 5 stars. But I highly recommend this location, I don't think a whole lot of people realize that it is here, so take advantage of that fact while it is true! read more

For depth of selection, great. Lots of used CDs but the rare find doesn't come too often here. Not the best price for selling your used stuff. In Your Ear and Planet Records give better money for used stuff. What's up with the manager's attitude, he doesn't have the best customer service skills, hey he's a 40-something guy doing the work of a 20-something, so there's a clue. read more

Humongous nearly to the point of sensory overload. Definitely the nicest of their locations. Juris could be the most affable member of the customer service industry. The only problem I've ever had here was; There was a sizable crowd selling cds and dvds as well as another sizable crowd looking to make purchases. There was but one poor soul attempting to take care of both of these tasks. Not because she was the only one working you see, rather because the rest of the staff was in the comics room re-enacting last nights video game adventures. Was this their method of hazing the new girl? And $40 Beatles records, what's that about? read more

Easily the best (largest is best in my book) music section around. Still doesn't hold a candle to the old Tower Records on Newbury St but that's the way it is these days because of the internet. So it still takes me a long long time to find something interesting I don't already have but that's only because I've been at it buying tons of music for many years. For the average Joe you will definitely be happy with the large selection. I really love the fact that they buy old CDS etc and I don't have to go into Boston or Cambridge where parking is a pain to get rid of them. The used (and new) movie section is really something too. If you have someone to buy a gift for that's into old movies you're in business. They'll have famous and more importantly not-so-famous but cool titles. It's lotsa fun and very intriguing to check out all the novelty items and clothing etc. to get an idea what's cool and hip and cult at any point in time. read more
