Nowadays all shopping is done online so it's great when you can find a good store to try the product before you get it, especially with shoes where there are many cheap knock offs, so you don't really know what you are buying until it arrives. Prices might not be as cheap as buying online, but here you get great service too. My wife goes there often to buy running shoes, and the first time, she tried a few and the women working there, was helping her find a pair with the best feel based on the feedback. My shoe size is unusual but it is what I have been wearing for many years. The sales person talked me into buying a smaller size. When I came back with the shoes and said they didn't fit, the same sales person did not offer to help me find a better fit or even say "whoops, maybe we should try again.". I would have appreciated a "sorry," or something. For the cost of running shoes, at least a little sympathy would have been welcomed. read more

CRR is a fantastic small business. They have a small but wise selection of shoes and clothing for running as well as accessories and cool stuff you wouldn't have known existed. Their prices on shoes are competitive with online stores. Over the years I've been assisted by all of the employees and found them to be friendly and knowledgeable about their products but also area runs, races, groups etc. I even bought a sports bra from a male employee who was incredibly knowledgeable because he asked his girlfriend to try it. They even have Olive the dog who is like a celebrity keeping kids entertained while parents shop (she disappears if you're not into dogs). I recently went to the sip and shop event for women. It was fantastic- there were vendors, samples and other local businesses that she had invited to the night. Charlotte and her team are truly an asset to our town. read more

I prefer the gym to running, so I only own training shoes, which work well for cardio classes, but not running on pavement. The current coronavirus situation shut down the gym I use, and I suddenly found myself needing running shoes. What makes this a bit tricky is that I have wide, flat feet. I also wanted to support a local business given the current situation. I did a little online research, and focused my search to a particular brand of running shoes, and called Charles River Running to see if they had them in stock. After explaining my dilemma, the owner had such expertise and product knowledge that she redirected my search to a different pair of running shoes that she thought better met my criteria. She also took payment over the phone and arranged pickup in a way that adhered to social distancing guidelines. I love the running shoes she recommended. I had bought a pair of running shoes from another store and while they felt good in the store I noticed that after a few runs my feet started to hurt and my running times got worse. I went to Charles River Running hoping to get some help finding the right shoes with a good fit. Charlotte was able to immediately spot the problem with my other shoes and provided me with a few options to try and eventually found a shoe that felt great. I ended up running nearly a minute faster off my pace with the new shoes and my feet felt great. Despite a busy Saturday morning, Charlotte gave me plenty of attention and helped me select new running shoes to use in my treadmill/home gym workouts. I'm not a runner, but walk regularly and she was very good at listening and understanding all the issues that affect me and my workout. The store is small, but is laid out nicely and has a very good selection. In terms of price, I did not compare what I might have saved on the same shoes elsewhere. I would guess that I paid full or nearly full retail, but for me, the extra amount spent was not an issue in light of the skill of the staff and attention I received. I test-ran three different pairs of shoes and Jim was very serious about selling me the pair that felt the best, not the most expensive product. A member of the staff spent 30 min with me to find the correct shoe. They ordered a different color for me and it was delivered to the store when it should have been sent to my home. When I was called and told that the item was waiting for me the mistake was realized and I was told the item would arrive at my house within three days. Three hours later, a woman who I think is the owner, delivered the shoes to me. This was done without request and is probably the best customer service I have ever experienced. The shoes were available online for a few dollars less but supporting a local store that maintains this level of service is worth much more than a few dollars! Gentleman who works there was extremely helpful. Had to try out a few pairs of shoes and went back a third time and the owner was working. The owner was quite rude and not helpful. I am running my first marathon and was looking for a seasoned runners advice. Unfortunately, I did not get that. I felt leaving embarrassed, frustrated and without any sneakers! Great service! Jim was very knowledgeable and took a lot of time to answer questions and explain things. I'm never buying running shoes anywhere else! I usually look for deals at large department stores and find something affordable, so I was a little nervous walking into a specialty running shop. However, I've been having pain in my ankles and I wanted to make sure I got shoes that solved the problem. Jim found the problems immediately just by looking at my shoes and watching me walk. He quickly found shoes great shoes that fit me perfectly. I was also pleasantly surprised at how affordable they were.
