Although I'm not sure of their employee conditions for being open on a major national holiday, they did come in clutch when my friends and I decided to grab some alcohol for our post-Christmas celebrations. The man at the cashier was very, very nice and joked along with my friend and I as we were checking out! As far as the alcohol selection goes, it's pretty vast and they sell other things like hygiene products, soda, and snacks without having outrageously marked up prices.

I'm always surprised by their wide selection -- they literally have everything from alcohol to groceries to every day items. Mom n' Pop shops are a rarity these days; cherish them while they still exist. The staff here treats customers like old friends. In a world that is constantly on the go -- it's nice to slow down a bit and know that the person asking, "How are you today?" actually cares, and that when they wish you a nice day, they actually mean it. I know, shocker. I love this place, as it embodies every single reason why I choose to support small businesses: incredible staff, great products, great prices. Can't beat that.

It is really nice to have corner store that is not 7/11 east of Sheridan road up here. As a convenience store, it does everything you need. I will def be back for snacks.

DRINK UP LOCAL I was…read moreactually heading to CVS for some adult beverages to go when I walked by this old school liquor store. I love local small businesses and decided to pop in. Honestly why would I spend my money with some corporate giant when I could give it to a Mom & Pop location. When I walked in, there was a bell on the door to alert them someone had walked in. I didn't see anyone and figured they were in the back. As I was looking around the store, I turned around and saw the owner sitting behind the counter. He startled me because I thought he was in back. He asked if I needed any help. I asked him about some prices and he was able to quote them to me with tax already added. Now that's s skill that should be an Olympic event. I guarantee the employees at CVS can't do that. I ended up talking to the owner, Andy through some light conversation. He seems like a very hard working guy. I learned his liquor store has been open for 10 years now. It is small but has everything you could want to throw a party. The day I visited he had 4 deliveries and there was beer stacked from the floor to almost the ceiling. It's not a huge place but he probably does a great business with the train and bus terminal nearby. So if you're near Jefferson Park and you need to pick up some spirits, beer or wine then this is the place for your party needs. I loved what Andy said when I left. He said, "Come back soon!" Where you yell at the customers who you failed? I caught them too many times where they had to adjust the prices. Today, they tried to overcharge me for cheesy bread. As you can see in the receipt, they had to do a price override. I just don't get it. They been doing this to the public after a couple months they opened on up. I want the owner to know that I'm on his tail.

Not sure how they do it in a small space, but they always have what I'm looking for, no matter how obscure. Tiramisu? Nondairy creamer? Queso fresco? A niche brand of potato chips from Michigan? Breakfast burritos? No problem. They also don't jack up the prices nearly as much as they could, given their location as a hyperlocal tiny grocery amongst art galleries and salons, and I send thanks to them for that, as someone who lives around the corner and just needs to pop out for some last minute forgotten ingredient.
