Welcome back, but keep your distance!

When selection is low at the other big stores, your local butcher is there to help. First let me say New York Butcher Shoppe, you are wrong that every time I come to stock up, the smoker is going strong with that sweet, savory, smoky aroma of low and slow cooking and every time I ask do you have anything on the pit for a walk-in customer (not even a sample), you tell me it is already pre-ordered by customers. Dang, weekend lake enthusiast, but I digress; you can get a good selection of choice meats to your liking. Try the ribeye, it is a regular cut, but it looks like a Cowboy Steak to me... If you are pressed for time or want to wine and dine, they have pre-made meals which I tried the Jerk Penne Pasta. Do not let the size of the container fool you, there are about six good single servings out of that small container.

Wine so fine I had to make it mine.

First I have to send a giant thank you to one of our Yelp community members (Ron F.) for telling me for months that I needed to make it out to the monthly wine pairing hosted here. I finally took his advice and I have no regrets from the evening. For anyone local, it can be found in the middle section of the Surrey Center, all the way at the far left end, across from Finch & Fifth. So parking and shops to check out are a plenty. The wine pairing event is after hours (7 pm) so you have the place to yourself and it is only $20 a person (as a guest). Now let me go ahead and mention that if you become a monthly member ($40) it includes this wine pairing event as well as a selected bottle of white and a bottle of red wine. Plus 10% off wine purchases. That pays for itself. Back to this event. You walk in and a Greeter is being served. Pace yourself here. There will be two small plates, a main entree, and a dessert served. All of these will be paired with a different wine. And don't worry about your glass going empty. Their pours are heavy and the team is walking around with the bottle, making sure no glass goes dry. Separately, the dishes and wines were amazing. The pasta, meat, and baking skills were top notch. Everything was plated beautifully as well. The wines each had their own personality and made me mad at myself for not being a member. But the two of them together, pure joy to the palette. A bold Cab with a dense chocolate cake, that is a capstone pairing if I've ever seen one. I will point out that this is a deli by day. That means there are meats, side dishes, tomato pies, of course bottles of wine, and much more available for purchase. That also means there is very little seating. So plan to stand for the entire event (about two hours in all). But due to the nature of the group there and the curiosity to see everything there, you probably won't even care about standing (especially around that third or fourth wine pairing). I am in love with this place and look forward to returning soon (aka, next month). Attend this event, go grab lunch one day, and stop by if you are needing a quality yet affordable bottle of wine.

Way over priced. You people who claim this place is top rank know nothing about beef quality or pricing. And it shows in the reviews.

Top notch customer service. Came in on a whim just as they were closing and they still whipped me up a savory sandwich to go.

The hostesses were super welcoming, but the bartender (believe he said his name was Ryan) was the real MVP. Our group was about to order a bunch of combo plates when he convinced us to go with a tray instead, and he loaded us up with killer sides and sauces he recommended. He even gave us a rundown of local craft beers and broke down the regional BBQ styles with us all being from out of town. Super personable, incredibly helpful, and honestly the best dining experience I had all week. I would absolutely come back on another visit!

We weren't expecting the inside to be so big, let alone the HUGE outdoor covered patio with lots of TVs! Everyone working was friendly and we got seated promptly outside. I got the chocolate orange espresso martini and my husband got the cinnamon maple old fashion. The espresso martini was to die for. One of the best I've had. Not overly sweet but was so delusions with the orange and chocolate. A match made in heaven. The old fashion was ok, needed a little more cinnamon and one big ice cube instead of a bunch of small ones. (He's picky with his old fashions) We decided to split a 2 meat and 2 sides plate. We got the brisket and pulled pork. The brisket was tender and seasoned well, nice and Smokey. Pulled pork was ok, some pieces were a little dry. The beans were really good as well, great bbq flavor. Potato salad was the best I've had. Hands down. Mustard heavy and not mayo which is AMAZING. it was still creamy but the flavor was unique and tangy. Highlight of the dish in my opinion! Definitely worth checking out! It was a great experience.

The food still felt authentic and full of true Hawaiian flavor. Coming from a family with roots in the Big Island and Maui, I can appreciate when a place captures that genuine island-style taste and atmosphere. One thing that really stood out was how they start you off with fresh in-house made pork rinds, similar to how Mexican restaurants serve chips and salsa when you sit down. It was a unique and welcoming touch. We ordered the spicy poke, Spam musubis, and a mixed BBQ plate with two scoops of mac salad. Everything was flavorful, fresh, and satisfying. The mac salad especially had that classic island-style taste that's hard to find done right. The staff was friendly, the decor looked great, and the restaurant had a warm, inviting feel. Definitely worth checking out if you're looking for authentic Hawaiian comfort food.

Service was quick to seat and take orders. Love they give complimentary pork rinds to snack on. Friends order masubi - spam nori wrapped rice. Nice. 3 for $9.50? I see different prices online vs menu. The shrimp tempura was okay for fried shrimp. And friends garlic fried chicken was good. I had the double meat plate. And wanted small but they charged me regular charged for $30. 3 slices of short ribs extra $6 up charge for 3 pieces ?! and 1/4 lb of pork belly bites. Also orders kimchee of cucumbers and cabbage. Nice flavors and not overly spicy. I do think they forgot to give me my rice. For $30. Thought this was a bit high for what I got. Food is delicious. Service. Good. Just not sure of how the portions are created for platters. My fiends dish for one items were under $15. Oh well...shall keep an eye on portions and prices in future. Will still go back but así es toy what get for the price I am paying. A. Small order vs regular order.
