You will not find another food court like this at any mall in America. You will not recognize any eatery here. No Sabarros, cajun cafes, burger kings or such. In fact, the only store within the entire mall you may have heard of is haagen daz, and that's not even apart of the food court. They have soup dumplings, this place with a gigantic red awning that serves a dish in a gigantic wooden bowl made up of ingredients you select sauteed up in a sauce you pick, either mild, medium, spicy or extra spicy. It's made for sharing so make sure the person you go with shares similar tastes. Also there's a hand made noodle shop as well as countless other Asian delicacies. I would finish off anything with the ice cream crepes. It's $5 and you should probably share it unless you have an amazing gym membership. It's so good. Parking is a breeze as there are countless options other than street (I suggest the building on College blvd. connected to the new Target, 3 hours free!) The mall alone gets 1 star because I do not like to buy bras or lingerie. This review does not include the food court as to Yelp has them both separate. But honestly walking throughout the mall was a big disappointment. Women clothing was pretty much what every store has to offer in the mall. Other than the bootleg Game stop "Game Champ that another user stated was cheaper than game stop. I didn't really take note on the game prices. But there was a Xbox 360 Kinect Adapter I wanted to purchase.. Here was the prices Game Champ sold the adapter (Used) : 27 Dollars Game Stop Sold the adapter (New) : 25 Dollars Amazon (New) : $7.10 After Shipping and Handling. This is the reason I don't have to step foot into any game stores anymore. And with the rest of the stores targeting on Middle aged women.. New World Mall has nothing else to Offer Me... DO NOT BUY VEGETABLE FROM HERE Do not buy vegetables from here if you don't want to eat bugs. I got a celery from here and I found a dead brown worm from inside. 2 weeks later, I got a bag of bok choy, and I found 2 stink bugs inside. I screamed when I found one of them on my cutting board. I cut it together with the vegetable. If I didn't see it's body cut in half and wonder what it was, I would've not realized and cooked it. There is no picture because this is just disgusting, and people don't want to see it anyways because it's just so gross. Let's be honest, the only worthwhile thing about this mall is the food court. It is indeed an Asian food-lover's paradise. You'll find everything from Chinese to Japanese, Malay, Thai, Korean BBQ. It's all great -- although I'd stay away from the desserts, as they're pretty overpriced. They supposedly have dim sum on Sunday mornings. As for the rest of New World Mall, it's just little boutiques selling tacky, overpriced trinkets. Unless you're a teenage Asian girl, it's unlikely they'll appeal to you. The mall is also very crowded and noisy at all times of the day. There's a supermarket in the basement, but other than selling some rare Asian snacks and beverages, there's nothing particularly spectacular about it. Also if you're unfamiliar with the Flushing area, as is not uncommon here, some of the shop owners speak English as a second language, or not at all. All times I've visited the New World Mall I had my Chinese/Malay girlfriend with me, who translated back and forth when necessary. Not a huge deal, just be advised. read more

You have to walk OUT from where you GOT in and no Side Walk. 2 and a half stars if we're trying to be accurate. One thing I've noticed about this mall is that it feels like a mall that you would find in a more rural part of China. Which gets me thinking that the developers were probably not from Taiwan (They did the Queens Crossings project) and from mainland China... and the more xiangxia (country bumpkin) type people at that. The first thing that struck me was the absolutely terrible layout that they chose for this mall. Why had they stuck the supermarket on the first floor flowing out into the main lobby of the ground floor is beyond me. What they should have done was stick the supermarket to the basement level and have the food stalls be either on the ground floor or better yet the top floor. The entrance on Main St to the supermarket was also odd and had so much wasted space at the entrance that could be used for retail or perhaps they could have sold space for a two floor shop. I don't know... there just seems to be so much poor planning on the developer's end. Nevertheless, prior to New World Mall's opening I was thinking that maybe higher end stores were coming to Flushing. (I'm talking to you A|X, Gap, etc.) Unfortunately the shops here feature a lot of women's clothing from China (What about us men though?), Asian beauty products and a whole slew of hair salons. All of the shops are very tacky and the entire mall just feels as well... tacky. The only shop in the entire mall that feels proper and clean is the Hagan Daaz that's right by the entrance. Other than that, the food court has so so food and the products that can be bought here on a guy's prospective is extremely limited. Still waiting for the day that we can have the hardcore goods that they get in China. But a case of Shin Ramyun on sale for $12? I'm there! CRAP The middle floors consist of a lot of little shops for cheap shoes and clothes. Mostly for women. In East Asian style if you know what I mean. Yeah, it's like going to a mall in Kunming, but I'm kind of over that. Some of the more interesting shops: * Image is a fancy sneakers shop (vintage and small release). http://image-ny.com/index.php * The electric bicycle shop. It probably has green in the name. If you're too lazy to pedal, but still want to legally use the bike lanes on the East River bridges, this is what you get. Bike from ~500+ (thats $$$ not ¥¥¥). Many of the offerings (especially cases) are novel and seem to be of good quality. *They have barbers! One shop for girls and one for guys. *A glass-wall view overlooking Main St. * Taiwanese tea shop. It's a bit pricey for some of the stuff, but it's in a mall, so you're like WTF? I said I like pu'er, and the owner told me to try an aged Taiwanese which was similar. I thought she was giving me a little sample to take home, but she asked for $10. There was the assurance that if I did not like it, the cost would be refunded. Let's just say, it's really good. By the way, if you're a guy, you're probably used to it, but 97% of the shops are for the girls. When you walk into an American-style food court, you might see Taco Bell, Sbarro, Flaming Wok, Nathan's, etc. When you walk into this food court, you might think "This is all Chinese food." But remember, those different styles of Chinese food are as different as tacos are to pizza. Amazing experience in and around this mall yesterday. I'd recommend checking out this food court for a snack, having drinks at a local pub and then coming back to the food court for round 2 dinner. We ate there twice and didn't even scratch the surface. I was exhausted after walking all day and headed to the food court for a break, maybe get a drink...I wasn't there for very long before L told me to get up. There was a lot of families having dinner that Sunday, everything seemed pretty normal until....we noticed some guy sit down at the next table behind me with his arms inside his sweater as if it were a straight jacket. Ok, he could've been cold...but then he started talking loudly to himself and to the lady sitting to his left. He was telling people around him that he was HIV+. Nobody was either paying attention or perhaps they didn't understand him. Just some crazy looking white guy with a full beard. We don't stay around possible bad situations though I did want to stay for at least a few more minutes just to make sure he wasn't going to cause trouble, but L made me leave. I felt like I should've alerted the ONE "security guard" sitting upstairs, but it's not like the guy did something to harm others YET; we could've been wrong about what he was saying since it's so loud in the food court area. I wish they would have some security downstairs as well since there's a lot of families with their young children. Always be alert of others around you especially when you're with your friends and family. I've come here a couple of times before normally just to look around. Im a bit hesitant trying most of the food available at the food court though I've had a bowl of noodles at one of their more popular shops. It actually was pretty good, very authentic. I just don't like it being so crowded any time of day, sometimes it's difficult to find seating. read more

If you come here expecting a mall in the grand suburban tradition, you will be sorely disappointed (points to 1 and 2 star reviews below/above). There is nothing brand name about Flushing in general except the Joyce Leslie I spied somewhere nearby. Furthermore, I find Flushing to be crowded and not-dirty-yet-not-squeaky-either. I was not expecting this mall to be anything more than that, as far as cleanliness goes. The food court is impressive, to a "foreigner" like me, and I've made a mental note (as well as taken video of the noodle-pulling guy) that it is open late. Just saying, but if a guy wanted to take me here on a hanging-out kind of date, I would not object nor would I think less of him. This is not your everyday food court. You will find no Annie's Pretzel here, thank the Lord. Hulk and I were fascinated by the market. It is open to the mall, no doors or anything, which is interesting. I found it to be pretty clean and we could (sort of) feast on the samples offered at the ends of pretty much every aisle. I imagine that you would have to be quick on the draw when paying, and I don't dispute that the checkout person would likely tell you to hurry up, so that review has been duly noted. I always try to have money in hand before I buy anything in Flushing - these folks don't seem like the dawdling type. I always like Asian beauty stores and pore (no pun intended) over the face masks and blackhead "removal" creams. There's a place on the top floor where you can get Hello Kitty skin care products. No joke - there is a whole line. The amount of stores selling iPhone covers, charms and other gadgetry is insane. Ever been to Beijing? If you have, then you'll feel an odd sense of deja vu. It's as if they plucked a mall from Wangfujing and placed it smack in the middle of Flushing, complete with lighting, garbage and shops. There are no American brand name shops and in fact, there aren't any Asian brand name shops neither. There are a bunch of little shops that sell lots of knick knacks, beauty supplies, clothing and even 4-5 salons all located in one area (so as to keep the fumes in only one area of the place). When it first opened, it was a complete disaster, with people having to line up at the escalators to even take a look at the food court. The supermarket is a mess; those that have been will know what I mean when I say that their check-out process is a complete disaster. Who knows where the lines are and where to even stand? In fact, I got into an altercation here with some guy cause he tried to blatantly cut me in line. I have no desire to come here whatsoever, except to PERHAPS try out the food court on a day when there are no crowds. Plus I'm waiting for time to weed out the bad vs good food vendors. read more

I've only stopped by to check this place out since I haven't been to Flushing in almost a year. Stores are typical small, packed storefront. As a dude, nothing interests me here. Wanted to go to the food court but it's seemingly perma-packed. I don't do well with crowds and I certainly will not sit next to a stranger when I eat. Since I don't live in flushing and just go there for Friday night dinners, we've decided to take a walk around Main Street after stuffing ourselves at Mynnis Shabu Shabu we came upon this new shopping mall. From the outside, the mall/building looks modern and upscale. But once you step inside, all expectations of experiencing something "classy" and "hip" will soon dissipate once you begin exploring the shops. I agree with most of the yelpers who described the shops as "no name" brands. I'm not sure how much rent these shops are paying per month, but I do know that most will be out of business within a few months. Once this occurs, the mall will be runned down just like the Flushing Mall and the Triple Eight Mall in NYC Chinatown. I believe that most of these shop owners were mislead with high expectations that the goods/services they're selling will make a profit. As described by other yelpers, these shops are the usual varieties: no name clothing/shoes for women, hair salons (one tackily called Ferrari), cell phone stores and video game stores. There is also a restaurant, food court and supermarket in the mall. If the mall owner's business plan is to attract and keep Asian businesses/customers, perhaps they should get overseas brands such as G2000, Bossini, Giordano or U2. Perhaps getting an American name brand to attract other name brands would be a good idea as well. A question I would ask the owners is "Have you ever taken a beginner's course in retail"? That said, there is nothing special other than the negatives to describe the mall. Definitely not worth going there again unless getting lunch/dinner at the food court. read more

This is considered to be polite." - Michael Scott, The Office Well this mall isn't Italy, and therefore, workers are not required to wash their hands after the restroom, as witnessed by me. I decided it was my civic duty to follow the unsanitized worker, wearing an apron and covered in food stains. As I played Harriet the Spy, I followed the culprit to the J-Mart Supermarket meat/fish section. The worker who peed in the urinal, did not flush, and strolled down the escalator works in J-Mart Supermarket. You have been warned! Avoid J-Mart and avoid that escalator. The market gets a 1-star because of this incident and the mall itself gets another star. The one difference that stood out to me between this mall and regular American Malls, is how insanely tiny the stores are. It's literally smaller than my New York size studio apartment, and that's pretty damn small. The ventilation in this mall is a little funky. There are areas where it seems like there's no air circulation at all. Especially the restrooms, which smells surprisingly bad for a newly constructed lavatory. That's probably why they always leave the doors open, which just circulates the smell into the hallways. With all that said, it's a nice change to the Flushing area. And I'm sure it provided jobs and a slight economic lift to the area. Well, until the little mom and pop stores start going out of business from the competition. But that's gentrification for ya; you win some, you lose some. read more

Had you asked me to review this mall five years ago, it would have been 5 stars, no question. Now it's a 3. Why? The customer service at the beauty shops I've gone to at this mall for the past ten years has basically taken a nose dive. I used to love the greetings I would get from employees at shops I frequented (and spent plenty of money at to boot) but now no one even looks up when you enter a store. And it's totally not just because I'm white because guess what? I was white five and 10 years ago too. I really can't think of an explaination why service has gone downhill, but it has. And as far as the J-Mart supermarket, I've never perceived it as "filthy" as another reviewer said, just super busy. read more

I pass through it but I have never done actual shopping for it. The food court is big and there are usually a lot of people who go there for lunch. The New World Mall was a disappointment. At first I was expecting a high-end shopping mall like Queens Crossing before I went it. However, once I stepped inside I was immediately disappointed at what I saw. The supermarket located on the 2nd Floor was no different from all of the other chinese supermarkets in Flushing. There were pieces of dirty vegetable leaves all over the floor, and the variety of food & snacks are all typical of what you would find in a chinese store. (The name J-Mart gave me the impression that this was a Japanese supermarket, which disappointingly, it's not) I assume the business might be good in the beginning when people are all hyped about the new place, but after the hype died down, I doubt many people would want to go out of their way to the 2nd Floor of a building to buy regular groceries. Going further up to the 3rd floor, there are an array of shops. However, the stores are what you would find on Flushing streets: small, cramped, stores with clothing imported from China, cheap shoes placed in rows on the floor, a couple of hair salons, ... and even a gift shop displaying aprons right next to the doorway with male & female body parts (very inappropriate for children). It's sad that they can't find any decent clothing shops from name brand stores to open up there. The restaurant on the 4th floor was even more disappointing. When you step out of the escalator, you are immediately in the restaurant. On either side of you, left & right, are entrances. there was no greeter's desk or signs to let the guests know where to go. There seems to be too little waiters/waitresses to clear the tables in time,and the workers all look stressed and not sure what to do. We were taken to a table which was still dirty and had to stand next to the table for almost 10min waiting for someone to come clear it. The food was mediore and the price was more expensive than Ocean Jewel. Conclusion: go there only if you have no where better to go to spend your time. For me, I would rather go to Queens Crossing for some good bubble tea and go shopping at SkyView Parc. read more

They have a HUGE variety of Chinese food, not just from one region. (Yes, I realize this getting a little repetitive...) If the only Chinese food you like is that take-out crap from restaurants that include General Tso's chicken, DO NOT GO THERE. THEY DO NOT HAVE GENERAL TSO'S CHICKEN at the New World Mall food court. Awesome. Makes u question yourself "Am I even in America right now". It's a great inexpensive escape from the actual city into another small all Asian city. The food is great, the supermarket is awesome and the shops are great. I recommend the candy store, the phone store, and a store that sells good luck charms. The top floor has a restaurant which I have not been to. Anyways this is a must for anyone. I really do love and highly recommend this place. New World Mall is a must for anyone in Nyc no matter where in Nyc. read more

This new asian mall supermarket is a BIG dissapoinment. Just went there 07/03/2011. Especially with the cashier who like cash then credit card. Well no offense but " What is ur problem if I paid with credit card? The sign said VISA and Mastercard. The cashier lady said u're wasting my time. Lucky I don't really busy today so I can wait for you to swipe it". After She gave me my receipt she said "next time just leave ur credit card at home". And I was like "What???". Well I believe this is last time in this New World Mall. I think they need to rename it with New Cash Mall. What a BIG dissapoinment. Alright mall, kinda small and a few stores but nothing too special and the stores are just ok. Prices are ok, quality and items in general are ok, and service are okay. Just average but I do like the food court downstairs (cash only) lots to choose from, pretty cheap and really tasty for most of the food that's available there. Found this "shopping mall" to be mediocre. Really cramped, dirty restrooms. The same repetitive fast fashion and Asian beauty stores on two floors. Not particularly cheap groceries. The parking garage was nice, especially as the first two hours are free to patrons who spend $30 or more at the grocery (J-Mart). read more

Lots of cheap looking stuff here. The food court downstairs, though...great!! There's a supermarket here, also, which was great...featuring tons of Chinese items for very reasonable prices. Steer clear of the stores, but hit the food court, supermarket, and the dim sum joint upstairs. read more

This urban centre of capitalist sprawling witholds an Eastern food market, an intrepidly sized chow court, and a multitude of inane looking stores. Amidst the throngs of Asians who come here to dine and buy are the asian cuisine flaired food joints that feed thousands of mouths each day with varying degrees of quality. There is a mega market called Jmart - a provider of all asian exotics imaginable, the basic foods (milk; fruits; bread; etc.), and the most intriguing plastic shopping carts. There's an odorous fish market with fishmongers chopping up seafood right before you as you order - in an organized queue where yelling is required just to snag a bag of fishes. The same goes for their expansive butchery. The narrow aisles are pocked with ramen from Japan to duck sauce from China - take your pick and experience the strange flavor of an overseas product. Behind the flies and horrid smells of the place, the pricing comes out moderately and still satisfies, even with the masses of people. Even more people are in the food court below, constituting a mostly Chinese demographic. Grab a seat when one is emptied, because hundreds of other hungered diners are on the sharp lookout for cheap food too. There's a shoe shop, a gamestop rip off, and a new dim sum place I have yet to try in this mall as well. Parking is close by, but was designed by primates. read more

First of all, if the Parking Garage did not ruin it for me and my family, this would have been a 5 Star Review. Pros: Food Court is Great (5 Star). The supermarket is good (4 Star). The retail shopping is great as my wife and mother in law were going store to store shopping all day (5 Star). Cons: Parking Garage (1 Star). Hard to find a spot. Hazardous to drive in there as there were 2 car accidents today 5/24/2014 and no police was called. And after I pulled up to the toll booth, the parking attendant made me Run to a cashier in order to Validate my Parking Pass; as I forgot to do it at the F@ck!ng CASH Register!
