The hot food bar is always worth a stop. Their plov (beef or lamb) is a great deal at $9.99/lb, and the meat is unbelievably tender and flavorful. It often runs out later in the day. The samsa are massive, flaky, and come stuffed with pumpkin, beef, lamb, or chicken. The manti and bilyash are also fantastic. You really can't go wrong with any of the prepared foods. They also carry a wide variety of Central Asian and Eastern European groceries, including seasonings, teas, sweets, pickled vegetables, honey, and more. The bread selection is another highlight, with fresh Uzbek non or lepeshka. The space itself is pretty small and cramped, so it feels more like a quick "grab what you need and go" kind of store rather than a place to casually browse. A line of only a few people can stretch to the back, but the cashiers do a great job keeping things moving. Tashkent also recently opened a location in Manhattan that I checked out, and it's a larger space with even more selection.

Washing it did not help remove the bad oder.The oder became even worse when the fish was put in the pot to be cooked. We live out of town,it's impossible for us to return the smelly fish to the store within 1.5 hours of purchase as requested. So we had to throw away the smelly fish. This is not the first time we've bought unfresh food from this store. It happens to foods on sale quite often there. They need to improve the quality of foods they sell.

They also make ready-to-eat snacks and onigiri, though not as extensive as Sakura's. I speak to the owners in Chinese, so obviously they love me, but my friends in the area come here frequently too to grab their favorite Asian snacks since they offer a diverse selection and at reasonable prices. They don't have the most eye-catching storefront, so it can be very easy to miss if you aren't actively looking for it.
