We stumbled upon this small restaurant, easily overlooked compared to the larger and mansion-like Chinese restaurants nearby, when we stayed in Southampton (of the Titanic fame) in a B&B right around the corner. Right in the heart of the city, surrounded by Oxfam stores and Ladbrokes and gelato shops, this fast food provided the BEST Chinese and Malaysian food during our trip to UK.
I would even give the food a grade higher than the Malaysian restaurants in Philadelphia or NJ. The char kuew tiauw is authentic it almost transported me back to Asia. The fried rice is perhaps just slightly above average, but I gave them high marks since they use less oil and salt (as requested). The rendang meat as part of the nasi lemak has the appropriate marinated level of curry around it. The store closed late and opened early on Sunday, which was a blessing since we want to get one more dish for the road before heading down toward Brighton that weekend. The portions are generous, the service was prompt and friendly, and price is unbelievably low for any restaurant in England.
If you happen to travel to Southampton and want a sure bet away from the usual British fare, this will surely be my recommendation. read more
