Chicken Wings with House Special Fried Rice.

Came to this spot really just to add another review to my Yelp a day Google page but I have to say this place did not disappoint. I normally don't go to into bar themed places but this spot does it's job as a restaurant. Despite some of the reviews here, I can't really complain. Other than the waiting time, the food is delicious, it's fairly affordable and the service from the woman taking orders was efficient. The vibe of the place is kinda foreign from what I'm used to it's comfortable. I'll be here again soon.

This review is ONLY for takeout. I like the food from here. I don't know what Yelp means when they categorize this place as "Modern American" because really it is a cross between West Indian/Caribbean and Chinese food. So not "American" at all. I've never actually stepped foot in the restaurant so I cannot comment on service, decor, cleanliness, efficiency, etc. They do take a long while to deliver. Anyways, I'm a huge fan of the fried rice and pepper chicken. The pork, jerk chicken, and chow mein is delicious as well and I've heard good things about the pepper shrimp. We've ordered catered portions for bbqs and what have you and the food has always been plentiful and well made. It's located right on Liberty Ave - if you're in the area and in the mood for this type of food, I would say New Thriving is worth a try. They also deliver!

They do have very limited seating here, as the restaurant is small and most people order to go. I love coming here whenever I'm around Liberty Ave. to try all the things I don't normally get to eat throughout the year. The food I've had here is very good. Everything from the saltfish and bake, curry chicken, fried rice, pholourie, cassava ball, salara (coconut roll), etc. have been flavorful, seasoned well, and appetizing. Service can be a bit slow and disorganized, but the employees are kind and do their very best to get to you quickly. July 25, 2026 BEWARE…read moreOF WHAT YOU BUY HERE. If it looks hard, it's hard. If it looks dry, it's dry. Sad experience. The Paper Bag Chicken Fried Rice is literally served in a brown bag. My sister, brother, and I were driving down Rockaway Blvd. in Queens when I spotted this Caribbean restaurant called Simply Caribbean. They had an A in the window, and the food pictures looked very good, but they were very deceiving. My sister went inside before me while I sat in the car looking up their reviews on Yelp. They had good reviews for the Paper Bag Chicken Fried Rice. I went inside and saw the food sitting out, and it looked both undercooked and overcooked at the same time. Against my better judgment, we should have just left, but my brother placed his order for salmon. He said it was overcooked, so it was dry. My sister ordered rice and peas, which were way too spicy for her to eat, along with her hockey puck oxtails that were hard as a rock. She took a few bites, couldn't eat it, and threw her food in the garbage. I ordered the Paper Bag Chicken Fried Rice. The server said it's like Chinese-style fried rice, so I thought I was going to get chicken throughout the rice--not what I received. I got four cut-up, dry pieces of chicken sitting on top of a whole brown bag of rice with shredded, dry cabbage on top for decoration. The brown bag rice had good flavor, but the presentation and the dry chicken were not for me. I was like, what kind of food is this? I called them to make a complaint. They transferred me to the cook, and I told him about the experience I was having. He said, "Next time..." I stopped him right in his tracks and said, "I won't be coming back here, but I will alert people to the fact that you, as a cook, don't taste your own food that you're selling." First time and last time coming here. You try to support local businesses, and this is how they support their community. SHAMEFUL.

Hence, "Simply Caribbean" is a Guyanese restaurant located in Queens, NYC. Must say their chicken fried rice paper-bag experience was such a vibe. Lots of food, the fried chicken was sautéed just right and served with cabbage, corn, cumbers, and with Guyanese hot sauce on the side. Highly recommend trying this. And of course, you must try their mauby - it's a popular Caribbean drink. The staff was so chilled and approachable. They have a sitting area too, but it seems like mostly everyone was ordering take out.
