It is often difficult to plan a party when you live out of town and a cake is key to party perfection. I gave instructions for what I wanted and just told her to make it pretty and it was. I take my birthday cake VERY SERIOUSLY. The buttercream is the most important part. This place promises buttercream and they deliver it! We live out of town and needed a cake for graduation, which can sometimes be tricky. We called New River Cakes and talked with a lovely lady that knew exactly what we were looking for in a cake. We arrived in town a couple of hours before the graduation party and picked up the cake. The service was delightful, the cake was beautifully decorated and it was one of the most delicious cakes I have ever had. Everyone at the party was raving about it! I would not order a cake from the place ever again, We ordered my daughter sweet 16 birthday cake from here and was very disappointed when we got the cake it looked nothing like what we had ordered my husband even showed her a picture of what we wanted for our daughter party, it was also supposed to have a raspberry filling it didn't. After emailing the owner of our disappointment in the quality of our daughters wedding cake, I received an email from the owner who in no uncertain words told me we were to picky and it was "only a cake" and to never contact her again for a cake. The cake arrived too early, was sweating, the bow fell off and we had to put it back on with toothpicks, it looked nothing like the picture we had provided. The fondant was so tough it was not editable, and the cake was leaning so much we were afraid it was going to fall in the floor and we were shorted 2 dozen cupcakes. I did not ask for any refund in my initial communication, I simply was voicing disappointment in a cake and cupcakes that we paid over $600.00 for. When I posted the owners unprofessional email to me several other folks voiced the same disappointment in thei cakes. My family and I have been continually harassed for almost a month now, called liars, pigs, that we would eat from a pig trough, called my son a fat boy. This from the owner and her sister. Due to the unprofessional actions of the owner and her family I would not recommend this business to anyone. They are bullies and as stated in the email to me, she doesn't need my money so I guess that makes it alright to continue to harass my family. I will not order from this business again. I had originally ordered 4 dozen cupcakes and a 4 tier cake for my wedding. I ended up changing the order to 6 dozen cupcakes and keeping the 4 tier cake. The morning of my wedding she delivered the cake 9 hours before my wedding and it began to sweat. We called her and she said it would be fine. We dropped the temp in the reception hall, pulled the shades down, and turned the ceiling fans on to ensure the room was cool. A few hours later, it began to lean, and the bow on my cake eventually melted off. My wedding coordinator was able to put it back on with tooth picks. The fondant was also do thick I couldn't cut it with my fork, and we actually had a few guests choke on the thickness of the fondant. We contacted the business the Monday after the wedding regarding the melting cake (not wanting a refund, just wanted her to know what happen) and the message we got back was a long message with the end stating she didn't need the money and we needed to not be so picky over a cake. After getting back from the honeymoon, we found out we were only given 4 dozen cupcakes, not 6. My mother contacted the business and asked for a refund for the 2 dozen we weren't given and her messages were ignored. After not hearing from the business for a week, I contacted the BBB and filed a complaint on how we were treated as paying customers. The business owner's family began to insult my family by saying we didn't need cupcakes, unless they were sugar free, and that we needed to hit the gym. I am not going to even start on the product this business provides. If it's your thing then so be it. I am leaving this review based on the professionalism of this establishment. Simply put, there is none. If you choose this establishment you'll need to 1) make sure you keep any and all records of agreed upon services provided. 2) count any and all cupcakes/cookies/cake pops/etc. provided. They will claim delivery of such small items when there was none and not refund money when such delivery had not been made of said item. 3) make sure any and all communication is in writing. Conversations via any other form will not be honored. 4) money is not a concern for this business. As stated in a provided photo in the above photo links. 5) be prepared for this business to not take your special event seriously. Again, reference photo in the photo link above. 6) when communicated with regarding the dissatisfaction of services provided and lack of full completion of said order this company proceeded to name call the customer. Telling the customer they are a "herd" of overweight people feeding from "hog troughs" and need "sugar free" items.
