I contacted Healing Haven to ask if an exception might be made, and the owner called me back and said she normally didn't make exceptions after expirations, but that this time she would. It's like a combo of Swedish massage therapy, passive stretches like Thai massage, acupressure and more. At the end, I was completely relaxed yet deeply energized because she was able to move and release my blocked qi (energy). I will be back for sure, and recommend you try it, too!

I was out of town for work and experiencing some tension. Between the work stress and bad weather my body felt very tight. I googled a local massage therapist and called Healing Haven, where the receptionist was very accommodating. At 6pm she managed to squeeze me in for a 7pm appt with no hassle. I got there early to fill out forms and my masseuse was waiting for me with good energy. She took her time to ask me questions and get to know what I wanted out of this experience. I asked for a deep tissue... and I definitely got that plus more. I felt like I was beat up (in a good way). She got in every crevice of my neck, back, shoulders and arms and worked out every kink that was present. We started around 6:50 or so and she went over to 8:15. I was only scheduled for an hour massage but she worked on me until I was complete. (Who doesn't love extra massage time?) Would I go back? Most definitely!!! I only wish that I could take her along with me on every business trip! Kudos to making my experience great Shannon L. Winter and Healing Haven! :-)

The staff was friendly, welcoming, and professional from the moment I walked in. The salon has a clean, upscale atmosphere that feels relaxing without being stuffy or pretentious. The whole experience felt like a little extra self-care, from the comfortable environment to the attention to detail. Definitely a step above your typical haircut. I'll be back and would recommend Ape + Canary to anyone looking for a quality haircut and a great overall experience in Rochester!

Alex was my massage therapist and he was very professional and courteous. This wasn't the regular run-of-the-mill massage (they get boring and monotonous!). Alex takes the time before the massage to go over any ailments you may have and goes over possible massage approaches that may help. For example, I experience frequent headaches/migraines, so he did some facial massage work. We also did some breathing techniques during the course of the 90 minutes. The heat of the hot rocks was a nice addition and really soothed my muscles. I walked out of there feeling better than I have in weeks. He also takes the time to talk to you after the massage to tell you what he noticed during it, and what to do different to feel better in daily life. He could even tell me what shoulder I wear my book bag on lol I would totally recommend this place even if you're just going for relaxation.

Then I met Alex. He is respectful, knowledgeable, kind, generous and a terrific practitioner. His only fault may be that he cares more about your well-being than you probably do. He really wants you to do your part in keeping your body happy so he will make observations and suggestions that you can use to maximize your health. The suggestions are reasonable and doable. If you participate you'll make strides, if not you'll just enjoy a great massage and get some temporary relief. He studies and practices true therapeutic massage. Do you want to feel better? Do you want to move forward with more knowledge? Do you want a partner in your striving for good health? Then Alex is your guy. If you want a fluff and buff go to someone else. Not because he can't do that but because it would be a waste of his considerable talent and knowledge. I've moved away from Rochester but I still travel an hour and a half to get a massage from Alex.
