Louis Armstrong New Orleans International Airport MSY - Mardi Gras decorations

This MSY International Airport in New Orleans is probably my second favorite airport of all the…read moreairports I've been to (my first favorite is Tampa TPA). There are little details that I noticed upon stepping out of the gates which I really appreciated -- like the glittery floors. I'm a sucker for small details, and those highly polished, sparkly floors just made me smile. They seem to continue all the way down to the lower level and baggage claim, and even at 1:30 AM, they made the baggage claim area feel a little jazzy (well intentioned for this state too!) On the way back, flying out of MSY, TSA PreCheck went very smoothly and quickly. Surprisingly, the gates also weren't that long of a walk. We usually have a long walk to our gate wherever we go, and my husband and I joke that the flight gods always know our itinerary and assign us the farthest gate possible, but luckily not this time :D The other little thing I really appreciate is the bathrooms. I know that sounds so underrated, but even the entryway into the bathroom seems wider and more spacious. Inside, the stalls are big enough that you can pull your luggage through if you need to. They also thoughtfully carved out a shelf along the back wall of each stall where you can stow bags and there are hooks for purses too. The toilets also have a hands-free motion sensor that automatically changes the seat cover for you. I haven't seen that done in decades, but I appreciate it. And in case you're wondering, it gives you a fresh cover each time rather than reusing the plastic. There's a little sign detailing it. My favorite part of this airport is the tremendously tall ceiling and beautiful architecture. The entire airport has a very modern aesthetic, but there's also this beautiful, almost ethereal mural that to me really represents Louisiana. It's a breathtaking installation featuring towering trees draped in what looks like Spanish moss. It captures that exact feeling of Southern magic--the way light filters through the branches, creating a quiet, almost timeless sanctuary right in the middle of a bustling airport. What a gorgeous visual farewell to the Bayou State before heading back home. I love airports that incorporate art and visual storytelling, and this piece really stole my heart. My only constructive criticism would be to have newer chairs at the gates and updated electrical outlets, possibly with more workstations where travelers can comfortably charge and plug in laptops and other devices. Other than that, MSY is a beautiful airport, and I look forward to coming back someday. Hopefully sooner rather than later. Service: 4 | Ambiance: 5

I've experienced both terminals many times and the new one is a tremendous improvement over the old outdated one. The terminal is NOLA inspired with Jazz music, plenty of bars, coffee shops, and of course a Cafe Du Monde. Like all airports pricing for food, beverages, and snacks is on the expensive side. Well, we are a captive audience. Security is a breeze especially if you have TSA or Clear. The restrooms are very clean even during the busiest times. The ride share area is across the street from baggage claim and is well organized.

Worst airline EVER !!…read more Me and 3 others were supposed to fly out of New Orleans march 16th at 5:10am .. We got there at 2am ... they didn't open their ticket counter / baggage counter till 3:45am Not only that but they admitted they were short staffed and had all 5 lines converge into a single line in the middle which made it take 3x longer to get our bags dropped and get to TSA . Also I had pre requested wheel chair help because I was injured and couldn't walk at the time . The clerk at the counter told me . And this is an exact quote " sorry where short staffed today , we have too many call out s , your gonna have to deal with it your self " which they legally have to provide wheel chair assistance .. Well long story short we didn't get to the ticket counter because of their short staffing till right before 5am ... then through tsa and the flight had already taken off .. Their best option was to rebook us on another flight. The next day in the afternoon and we wouldn't arrive till almost midnight ... over 32 hours AFTER we were supposed to already be there ... this would leave just 1 full day for our small vacation so we said no thank you .. give us our refund because that is not acceptable .. But it was their short staffing that caused this issue in the first place . So I emailed them and requested they cover the cost of our non refundable Airbnb because this was caused by what the even consider Controllable issues . They could have atleast offered what they give to those who need to be bumped to another flight considering this was their fault . Which is $2150 per person . But they basically told us to deal with it and accept that they ain't doing jack sh*t for us , they are the absolute worst Not to mention the wheelchair assistance issue . My suggestion is to NEVER fly Southwest Airlines,.. they are terrible and have garbage customer service !!!!

I have never had so many conflicting directions, which sounded like orders, in my life. Not one of the TSA personnel was able to extend anything other than "we are in control and you will obey" to their presentation. I have Pre and this was the first time that the line was longer and slower than the regular line. One TSA agent asked if I had metal in my body. I believe he could have passed me through a different detector. When I said yes, he looked me over, asked if I was sure, I said" I'm certain I do" and he told me I'd have secondary inspection then. After going through the machine, I had secondary inspection. Hahaha. I know that I have metal. Heck, my xray looks like the surgeon left drywall screws in me. I ponder, who isn't sure if they have metal in their body or not? No big. I did secondary. Maybe I've been spoiled by the other places I tend to fly and have grown accustomed to the TSA agents feeling friendly and confident. This security checkpoint is worth walking past and going to another. I appreciate taking the time to screen every person thoroughly. And, it can be done in a professional manner that doesn't threaten those you're trying to protect.

They had us leave our bags and go through the scanner regardless. For some reason, my shoes set off the sensor, which makes no sense since they didn't in any other airport. They had me take them off to go back through, but instead of putting them on the conveyer that all my other stuff came out of, I waited and waited and waited, until finally I asked, and they had come out on another scanner! I'm so glad I had given myself ample time to get through security, but geesh. Some basic organizational skills would benefit them.

Now, compared to the old sky club at the old airport this was a dramatic upgrade. I've been in some small clubs and this one was definitely more spacious. Now, it's not the largest one but still very good. On check in you can take the elevator or the stairs up to the actual club. The bathrooms have no touch entrance (love it)! It has a long layout but not very wide. I was flying out in the morning so it wasn't super busy and there was plenty of room. The food bar had a fair amount of breakfast food, nothing that I could eat with my dietary restrictions, though. The bar is towards the end of the food bar. They had hot coffee and fresh fruit. But my question is, where did all the cubed cheese go???? I haven't seen any in a while, at any sky club. This makes me sad.

It makes the travel experience much more relaxed and enjoyable. I look forward to visiting this lounge the next time I am in New Orleans.
