They had feeding machines that would count each item and give you credit, where you would get a receipt and then have to go into the grocery store affiliated with the recycling station to get your money back. It all was such an effort. Well, here in New Mexico there is no 5 cent deposit and you mostly put your cans and bottles in your green recycling bin for the waste company to pick up. A neighbor told me about this recycling place down in 528. They do not do glass, just metal of all types, including aluminum cans. I had a large plastic bag of cans, and found my way to this place on Frontage Road. The staff greeted me, took my cans, weighed them and gave me a receipt to take to the front office. I gave the young lady my receipt and she then gave me a different receipt to enter the bar code under the scanner and it would give me my money. I did so. I had 2 pounds of aluminum cans X $.35 a pound and I got a whopping $.70, Yes, 70 cents. Two quarters, and 2 dimes. This all seemed like a huge amount of effort for so little, but I made a difference. Plus I was now 70 cents richer. Yeah! Back to saving the next bag of cans.
