$22 comes with Jollof rice or Attieke & onions
    Sadia H.

I'm a huge fan of Senegalese cuisine, this was my first time ordering grilled fish from the Ivory Coast & it's not at all similar to my favorite Senegalese dish, theibodien. This is a small hole in the wall restaurant, there are a few tables to sit and eat in. There were a group of African men chatting & eating while others were waiting for their orders while parked in front. My order was to go, and it was ready in 10 mins. I ordered the grilled while fish. The fish here was basted with a sauce on the grill so it's recieved wet and moist, like a BBQ & it comes with a side of onion & tomato in oil, which I didn't much care for at all. It's a boney fish with flavorful skin, it's not spicy but comes with a spicy sauce on the side which I enjoyed. I ordered a attieke & sweet plantain to go with. The attieke is a grated cassava dish which was served plain, flavorless with a Maggie cube in the center & the plantains were fried. I found both the sides to be disappointing. I didn't enjoy eating the fish without a side, the flavorless oily onion & tomato sauce doesn't go well with a moist fish, and it didn't pair well with attieke or the already oily fried plantains. I wasn't sure what to do with the Maggie cube, I crumbled it on the attieke to give it flavor but it was too salty. I washed the meal down with a bissap drink with cost $4 & was very sweet. The total meal for nearly $40 & needless to say, this experience was not enjoyable for me. I believe in supporting minority family owned local businesses, and I do hope to maybe come back and try another dish from their menu that perhaps will be more to my taste. Happy Yelping!

Fresh salad (ample sized for a side) couscous with a oniony oil topping - delectable pair.

Avery unassuming front, but deceptive to the quality of the food and service. We had a friend from Benin visiting, and she located this spot to have lunch. The menu is written on a whiteboard (or printed for takeout). Our friend made the orders for us; a whole grilled whitefish, grilled tuna, stewed goat, and couscous, salad, fried plantains and the African ground Yuka "Atticke" as sides. The portions were generous - we had to have several take home containers (plan accordingly). Most of all, our West African guest clearly gave a 4-star approval of the meal. In spite of the "B" condition , we opted to dine in. Sometimes , this is the adventure that we all need to take; open minds for a serendipitous, if not authentic , dining memory.

    Lamb

Ordered lamb with jollof rice. I was ok with the small portion of lamb and significantly larger portion of jollof. It came with a deliciously very spicy sauce and spiced onions. The jollof wasn't as great as other West African jollof. I'd recommend take out instead of dine in. Next time I'd try something else on the menu.

This restaurant is dope. It's a real shame Manhattanites focus so much on downtown when some of the island's best treasures lie in Harlem, including New Ivoire. New Ivoire caters to the Ivorian community of NYC, and my friends and I were the only table of non-Ivorians present when we went for dinner. My kind of place. The grilled fish is some of the best I've had from my experiences with NYC's West African restaurants. The fish had some of the tastiest cheek I've ever eaten. Another must is the peanut stew. Simply delectable. Their cassava, plantains, and jollof rice sides are all 5/5. Their lunch specials look amazing, but I have not tried them yet. PS: If you are in the market for a Côte d'Ivoire national football team jersey of Drogba, there is a guy who hangs out here who can hook you up.

A line of taxi cabs forms a fortress in front of New Ivoire, a line that stretches down the block and gets even larger as day turns to night and midnight hungers need to be fixed. This 24-hour joint is obviously popular with the West African cab drivers in the city, and I would definitely rather see them sitting here having friendly conversations instead of avoiding them on the street while biking. They sat around large tables alternating their attention between the food, the rambunctious conversations, and the soccer channel on television. The owner would sit with them at times, giving the place a very friendly local feel. As newcomers we did not stand out at all though, even if my spotty French was not quite enough at times to describe what I wanted. At lunch, the restaurant has a rotating menu of three or more items, different on each day. The following two items were available on Mondays. The sauce arachide ($10) was very similar to other West African mafes, but had a more subtle approach to its peanut sauce, allowing other flavors to surface and creating a splendid soup for its beef. Served with a heaping plate of rice, the dish is definitely more than necessary for lunch. Another choice for the sides was a plate of yuca that appeared in couscous form. The owner recommended it with the second dish, the sauce Claire dindon ($10), and was spot on. It's a soup with turkey and tomato, but spiced with pepper and very oily. Both dishes brought back great West African memories with a small colorful pepper in the center. I also grabbed what appeared to be a homemade lemonade ($2), and expected it to be infused with something sickeningly sweet like vanilla. What I found though was in addition to this insulting sweetness a strong burning ginger was in there, which I could not finish despite the great taste.

Pros: Portion size is ridiculous (see pictures by me) Authentic feel Cons: Food is extremely oily Spotty service (I asked if there was cous cous kinda of side, instead of rice, and the owner said no -- but while waiting for my food, I saw two folks having this) Overall, this place has 3 stars from me, because it offers something new. When you see native folks eating here, you know it is legit.

If you enjoy a lot of heat, you'll probably love it. The service was good, and my drink was nice as well. Even though the pepper soup packed a serious punch, I still enjoyed the overall atmosphere and experience. Looking forward to coming back and trying more items on the menu.

My fiancé ordered a Yassa Yassa Grilled Chicken Bowl and I ordered a custom bowl. The delivery was very quick and it got to where we were faster than I expected which was a plus. Service was very good! I got a call saying one of the sauces I wanted was out unfortunately but they were helpful in providing me with alternatives. The Yassa Yassa bowl was very delicious, full of bold flavors, and a beautiful contrast between the spicy aromatic jollof, the sweet plantains, and the tangy onion sauce. The chicken in this bowl was definitely a little overdone and could have used more flavor. For my custom bowl, I got a chicken suya bowl with jollof as my base, plantains and the kale stew (Efo riro ) as sides and initially wanted the peanut (mafe) sauce which they were out of so I also tried the yassa or onion sauce. My bowl was absolutely delicious! Same bold flavors as the first bowl but the chicken was juicy, tender, and well spiced. Made all the difference! Both came with a nice chimichurri like spicy sauce called rof which I really enjoyed since it added a spicy, herbal, bright kick to the bowl. This place has amazing flavor and is very filling! I love the fast casual nature of it and how nourishing it feels. This is basically a Chipotle but West African inspired. The portion of meat was very generous in each bowl which was nice. The jollof was amazing! Highly recommend trying one of their suya meats since the seasoning is incomparable! Will be going back again for more bowls in the future.

I've had this restaurant on my list for a couple of years now being a Caribbean gal and all, and I am always looking to support Chefs that have similar roots to me and are doing big thanggggs, and finally, I was able to dine at the infamous Tatiana making my foodie bucket list dreams come true. Shout out to my super cool hubby who made one call and was able to get us a last minute reservation that very weekend we were in town. Thanks hubby and thanks JB! So - From the moment we arrived and paid our bill, we received exquisite service, with complimentary champagne provided when we were seated, tasty dishes sent out for us to try and even a visit by Chef Kwame himself. Seems like a hardworking and respectable person and it's nice to see his dreams come to fruition. I noticed that he made his rounds visiting nearly every table and allowing photo opps for folks to post on their social media channels. Made it a nice, memorable touch and to me it shows his gratitude to his diners / supporters. I def made sure to get a pic too of course. All the staff were sweet and attentive and made us feel like VIP. Neo, our server, was great! Food: My faves were the curry goat patties, hamachi, brown stew chicken, rice and peas (reminds me of my uncle's), and the jerk lamb rib. Vibes: Super jumpin'. Gave me lounge vibes with R&B hits playing all night long. I couldn't stop singing, then chewing, then dancing, then sippin' lol The only negatives were that the bathrooms were not well maintained toward the mid-to end of the evening. I broke the seal thanks to the alchy flowing lol, so I visited the unisex bathrooms a few times and they got progressively grimier thanks to some dudes who couldn't control their stream and pee'd all over the seat and floor. Gross. I am sure that was just a rare occurrence though. And another negative is the reservation process in general. The Resy booking site to book Tatiana is super annoying, making it extremely difficult to make a reservation in advance for the dates/times you actually want to visit. I've tried on many occasions but have never been successful w getting a reservation even when I time it perfectly. Apparently I am always seconds off or something. Seems like bots have taken over the booking site or wondering if Tatiana intentionally blocks tables for celebs/VIP where the only way to get in is to know someone or wait in their line (which I simply won't do). I personally hate calling people for favors to get in to places, because I feel like I shouldn't have to put in so much effort or get others involved in my plans, so definitely put a sour taste in my mouth. However, Group bookings seem to be more promising, which makes sense as that automatically brings in more revenue. Seems like a lot of trendy NYC restaurants are like this though. Being from LA, I am able to get a reservation at any restaurant I want to go to with at least 3 weeks advance notice (even n/Naka which is notoriously hard to book), but in NYC, snagging a reservation at a popular place is a royal pain in the backside. Makes it hard for an out of towner like me to plan a proper itinerary... Nevertheless, Tatiana by Kwame is definitely a fun, upscale Afro-Caribbean restaurant to visit (if you can score a reservation) with bumpin' R&B songs, great dining room service and delicious eats. Great for a fun birthday dinner with friends who like food. Looking forward to trying his newest dining venture, Maroon, in Las Vegas next! Love that it's only a 45 min flight away from LA. Yay! The setup inside this dimly lit restaurant had a bunch of steam tables offering various beef and chicken dishes, a handful of rice options, and a bunch of salads/fruits. Having no idea what we were looking at, we asked the friendly owner for some advice. After some contemplation, two of us made a plate with all beef over some jollof rice, and another with basically all chicken items over a different type of flavorful rice. We knew it was too much, but our goal was to figure out what we would come back for. Honestly, I did not enjoy most of the chicken because it's sitting in steam trays getting overcooked. Not saying they were terrible, but it all fails in comparison to all the great beef offerings. OMG! You really can't go wrong with any of the beef dishes. My cuisine rating is really based on the various beef items, the yummy veggies, and both amazing rice. Felt like I had to be cautious going through the spinach. The big fried fish pieces were simple and tasty but had a similar but lesser problem. A bit of a first world problem, I know, but it makes the experience just slightly less enjoyable. The hibiscus drink was perfumed with floral sweet and sour. Service: Service was immaculate. The wonderful staff behind the counter asked if it was our first time and had us sampling all the different rices and stews/soups to make sure we liked what we ordered. Ambiance: Very much a hole in the wall in East Harlem with very few tables. Simple but effective. The predominant foot traffic was all the food service drivers coming in and out of the establishment (which there was a healthy flow of).
