Mithai purchases from here have been a miss in the past so we don't buy sweets from here. Amul and Vadilal brands are easily found in the frozen section. Lines are longest in the evenings with only two cashiers at the counter. Garlic has been a hit or a miss at times. Samosa at the hot snacks section is just okay. My bf comes here regularly for vegetables and other grocery items, and the quality of products here is overall fine. But there is one rare item I am addicted to, the fruiti-o mango nectar, which is tucked away at the corner of the refrigerated section in the store alongside a couple other unique flavors. The mango juice I was particularly looking for was well in stock when we stopped by this past Sunday. It is so yummy, and not too sweet. When we first arrived, the tantalizing aroma of fresh jalebi being fried outside the entrance caught my attention. I didn't even know what it was, but I saw the sign and watched the guy making it, and I wanted some. Like many markets they also cook a range of food here, though I didn't see it happening in the store so I'm not sure where. Unfortunately the scent of food can be smelt throughout the store while shopping, so it's like being in a restaurant where your clothes absorb the strong odors of ethnic dishes, and it will follow you home if you're in there too long... I think since the place was kinda crowded the weekend before xmas, it was a combination of the people and the food actually. But at least they had the juice we wanted, along with veggies we picked up as well. Service was sufficient, and we got outta there before it was too late. read more

Looking at items is a problem since someone is always trying to get by. Aisles can only be occupied by 1 cart or 1 person. Lots of variety. Over 50% of items have no price. Checkout times maybe long as many people buy a cartful. Parking lot is also an issue. In the morning, little parking exists. A lady with skin disease complained that I took one samosa fromm the oven without tongs. There were no tongs in the oven and i needed one samosa. Later on, one the counter lady started telling me about using tongs.they pointed to tongs hidden on top of some shelf that is never cleaned. If the tongs is in the oven, I use it. I didnt find the tongs, so I used my hand to take one samosa that I was buying. I have seen many people use their hand, when there are no tongs. it is the job of the counter lady to provide hygenic tongs. Instead, they are gossiping and expect the customer to go treasure hunting for the tongs . I have been going to this store for over 27 yrs - even before these counter ladies were born. The customer with the skin disease that complained , was touching all the vegetables with bare hands even when she had skin disease on her hands. The ladies at the counter were touching vegies with their bare hands. I only picked one samosa to buy it and didnt touch anything else and these women in this store were shouting at me. That is because there was no tongs in the oven. They had no opinion about the customer with skin disease spreading her disease on vegies or the tongs sitting on unclean shelf. My go to Indian grocery store. Despite the poor parking and crowded store on the weekends, I would still try to make it there over any other grocery store. The best prices on groceries must try their snacks made by the store. Love their Samosa and cakes as well. Despite the long lines there are always ample people at the cash register. I do shopping here when I don't have a choice but recently got a few golgappas (deep) which are obviously bad with no expiration date marked. There is bad smell and it tastes bitter too. I called the shop and they were willing to refund but I chose to put the review because this needs to be looked at seriously. All the 1 star reviews share similar concerns. Red flag for sure for the heath department and there is no accountability either. I had a similar experience few years ago with an expired batter. New India Bazar is good, I don't know why the reviews are so bad. They kind of became victims of their own success where too many Indians flocked to the shop with limited parking space. Their vegetables are good, dairy products are good. Spice section has lot of options. It's quite crowded. There is a temple nearby and when people come to the temple they come here too and it gets really crowded. But there is no problem with the quality of merchandise. One star removed for parking space issues. Actually looking at the New India Bazar reviews I realized that you shouldn't trust yelp reviews too much. read more

This place over charges for any small snacks that come from India. I bough a pack of fried peanuts and they charged me $6.99. The peanuts tasted stale and had a really bad smell to it. When I was checking it for the expiry date, I saw the price on it which said Rs. 20. Are you serious, $6.99 for a Rs 20 pack? I will leave a photo of that. Moreover, they do not even control the amount of people in the store according to the Covid guidelines. To be honest, this used to be my go to place before. I have been coming here on and off since 2013 .. if I'm not wrong. Last few years it seems that people really don't care if you are not form India...( May sound rude). There is no smile of appreciation when you spend your money here. Only question asked " Do You Want Plastic Bag".., it's 25 cents ok. I bought few packets of Laddu and square sweets and some vegetables from here and upon reaching home found out that there was small molds in the square colored sweets. I know returning the expired product here will be unwelcome, since they don't acknowledge customers.., I have decided to be more inspective before buying from here again. Pros: lots of variety... carries pretty much everything you might need; competitive pricing. cons: parking is super painful; very crowded interiors (narrow aisles etc.), long checkout lines and lots of waiting. Produce quality questionable. recently bought a box of Indian mangoes (Alphonso) for $35)... I was told no returns absolutely. believe it or not every single one of the 10-11 mangoes was bad on cutting (check the attached pic)... one or two bad ones I could have lived with.... but every single one rotten! obviously I did not take it back as I knew they would not do anything with the feedback. Last year too I remember someone was trying in vain to return mangoes because they had been passed off totapuri mangoes as a better/sweeter variety! Lastly pretty much everything you can buy is the store brand (Veer)... and very few items from more reputed brands... I can understand they want to improve profitability... but wish the quality of the veer brand items was a bit better than it is! BEWARE OF CHEATING - This place over-charges you for certain items you purchased or blatantly adds extra items into the bill. Not just for a few dollars here and there, but my bills have $10-$25 added on top of the right amount. I noted this several times after coming home so i started reviewing bills right away so I could point it out- they simply say "sorry" it was by mistake. This place is no exception, but I would still recommend for few of their items which I find as decent picks if you carefully check for expiry dates of the packages & choose before buying. Generally, items such as green sprouts, Indian cooking masalas/ other ingredient necessaries, Dal packets and very few vegetables & leaves like green chillis, bottle gourd, lime, curry leaves are good to buy. I find some of their pickles, grand sweet varieties, light savory snacks, frozen items & other refrigerated items, interesting & useful. Seasonal Indian festive attractions like diwali decorative diyas, rangoli powders, puja accessories, rakhi bands etc are also made available before every festival. Otherwise, I'm not impressed with rest of the Veggies & Fruits as they are not fresh and are in poor condition half the times I've visited. Surprisingly, staff are helpful most of the times, but the store gets extremely busy during Weekday nights & Weekends. Due to this, to find a good parking spot becomes difficult. There have been times when people have to patiently wait & park. Items are pricey compared to other Indian grocery stores in the bay area. So, for any bulk purchase, I would suggest one to visit Fremont as the rates offered by similar stores are less and works out cheaper. There are rooms for improvement. Deal breaker for me : everything is so closely arranged that you cannot have more than one cart in one aisle. I just couldn't believe this. I went in off peak hours and found it highly inconvenient to even walk and turn inside. I cannot even imagine what happens at peak time. 3. The store employees are in their own world totally ignoring you. They will walk into you as if you are in their way. I understand that work place will drive any one mad. Couldn't take pictures as I felt claustrophobic and wanted to get out at the earliest. Will highly recommend the El Camino location instead if this. You come here to buy $0.39/lb. yellow onions or $0.25 cilantro bunches, not to expect white glove service from the cashier. The produce section may seem limited, but has everything you need at rock-bottom prices. I do not cook Indian food, but I do pick up fresh mint ($0.79 a bunch), spinach ($0.69/bunch), bell peppers ($0.79/lb for green and $1.29/lb. for red) and whatever else I need when I am in the neighborhood. Sometimes I buy naan or rice, but I haven't explored the dry goods/chaat in the store. The real reason I go: this grocery carries real Cadbury bars - the ones made in England, not the trash licensed for production by Hershey's. No need to travel to Cost Plus or obscure Asian grocery stores for Fruit and Nut, Caramel, or Aero and Crunchie. Don't forget the $0.75 vegetarian samosas (still a deal even if they don't come with any of the chutneys or sauces) at the counter. They're in a foil-covered tray, so you have to know they're there. I was walking past the store on a late Saturday morning when I saw them loading in trays of hot food and pastries. I'm a disciplined person but i couldn't resist the delicious smells and ended up buying a samosa. The prices aren't marked but at check out, the samosas were only 65 cents each! What!!!! It was still hot and didnt taste bland even though my Indian friend told me later i forgot to put the special chutney (sauce) on it. Not too spicy, just how I like it. So recently I noticed they started cheating on pricing of the grocery bags. It happened with me twice in the same month. In spite of me getting my own bags they charged me for two bags and stated the same each time "Oh we forgot you got your bags, we thought we gave you so we charged". I am a regular at this store, they mostly have all Indian groceries and they recently updated their vegetables aisle, which gives a lot of room for people to move around with their shopping carts. The staff is helpful when you need something specific and cant find it in the store. Their groceries are mostly fresh too. Only once I bought milk from them which was expiring the very next day, I realized it after I reached home, bummer! Overall, its a good store for Indian groceries, carry all masalas generally needed. I am not going there again. Some people working over there are crazy. One of the Girls working at the cash register charged me for an item i did not purchase. When pointed out, she told me it was not billed. I came out of the store because there is no place to stand next to the cash register and add all prices up. I did the math and learned that I was overcharged. I went back in and saw that it there was another girl at the cash register now. I pointed it out to her, explained everything. In the meantime, the other one (original cashier) came back. She got angry with me and started accusing me of getting out of the store and hiding that item to extract some money from them. The item in question is fresh figs. Firstly, these guys don't even carry fresh figs for god's sake. Secondly, I have stopped purchasing fruit from New India Bazar several months ago, because their fruits almost always go bad within 2-3 days.
