Havin' a bad Hair/Hand/Feet Day? Well, I've had plenty of those and now that it's Spring, time to get them all in shape. Austin is the land of Flip-flops so don't be caught with your feet down and out... show them off, and always gesture with great nails as you flip back that great hair off your neck. And pretty soon you'll be able to bat those eyelashes. They can do those too! My personal pick of manicurist's is Jenny Borne. She's the best. I even got my husband to go to her! I've been going there for about 6 years. But if she's not available, and you need a quick fix, Barbara or any of the others can probably fit you in also. They're all super nice and very professional. They provide the best hand and foot massages in town. I've been to some very pricey ones downtown and they go through the motions but take personal calls on their cells during your appointment and I felt like in some I should get up and let them have some personal time.... on my time! But at New Image, the conversation is lively, they give tips on how to care for your toes or hands between appointments and even told us how to use our cell phones.. without breaking a nail! So all in all, I give them all 5* as no matter who I've had cut my hair, do my nails, I've always gotten their full attention as though I was their only client. Other clients have told me the same. Building a good client base is all about personal attention and you get that at New Image. My advice is, if you live in North Austin, give them a try... you won't be disappointed. read more

My husband gets a huge schoolboy grin on his face everytime I say "I have a new girl-crush". He loves the idea of me having a crush on a girl. It will never go anywhere, but I love girl-crushes. So after my very first visit to Jessica at New Image, I came home with an awesomely sexy lookin head of hair and a big ol fat girl-crush grin on my face. Here's why... I have super short hair. Not all hair artists are comfortable with that. Where are the layers? Why can't I razor it? What do you mean don't use the clippers? So I started to go through my entire schpiel about how fine my hair is, but there is alot of it, so don't razor it here, it will stick up there, be careful over here... Jessica listened intently, nodded, uh huh, collegiate thinking rub of her chin and then perkily said "Ok! So we're going to blabbity blah blah, and snip, and twirl, and clean this and lighten that" and VWALAH! I had an instant girl-crush. NOT ONLY DID SHE HEAR ME - she had a vision! For little ol' me and my baby-fine short locks! A nice shampoo, some fun conversation and some seriously GREAT MUSIC later and BAM! Hair, my hair, only better. The service? Terrific. The parking? Jessica ROCKS! I went to another stylist at the salon to get my haircut short. I had brought in pictures of how I wanted it done (of myself with short haircuts throughout the years). She cut, I didn't like it, so she kept cutting, still didn't like it. I left figuring I would give it a few days and made an appointment to come back in a few days to have her keep working on it (which I decided to cancel, because if after 2 strikes, not sure I wanted to give her a 3rd). I lived with the cut for about a week and a half when I called the salon to see about getting it fixed. I mentioned to the gal that answered the phone what had happened with the previous stylist, and she suggested Jessica for a short cut. I booked for later in the week. Jessica was awesome! After one look, she immediately got to work chopping away and working her magic. My hair looks exactly like I wanted it to, and she wouldn't let me pay for her time! Finding a stylist that does short cuts well can be hard to find. I hesitated to write such a great review for Jessica because I don't want her to be so booked up that she's hard to get into, but when I booked my appointment out for 6 weeks, she looked to have enough openings that I can share her. ;) read more

6 years in Austin and I've finally found THE hairdresser to go to! I made my first appointment at New Image a little over a year ago based on a recommendation from an acquaintance (thanks, Tracy!) and was fortunate enough to find a talented, intuitive and personable hairdresser in Marijo. On my initial visit to the salon, she took the time to listen to my concerns about the effects that menopause hormone shifts were having on my overstressed and previously over-processed hair and now, one year later, my hair is in fine shape and the color is exactly the way that I like it. New Image salon is stylish yet has that comfortable, friendly neighborhood feel and the prices are very reasonable considering that I've paid a lot more money at other seemingly high-end places with far less satisfaction. Ember ROCKS! I am so glad she is so close to me at New Image Salon. She literally turned my hair from fried and thin to healthy and thicker looking! She seriously works miracles. I have always had highlights and had been going to the same person for years and not getting exactly what I wanted. I told Ember I wanted my hair very blonde but not all over bleached. She took her time and listened to exactly what I wanted and it came out better than I expected. Ember is extremely talented in styling and cuts as well. The main thing as a consumer is that she really listens to what you want and is able to translate it perfectly! I have been going to Ember for about 3 years now for cut/color. I've had highlights, low lights and all over color and whether I'm blonde or dark brown, she makes it look amazing! I am able to go in and relax because I am confident that she is going to do what looks best on me and do what is healthy for my hair. Recently, I had Ember do my hair/make up for my bridal portraits as well as my wedding day hair/makeup. She had great time management skills and did a wonderful job calming me down, wiping the tears away, and touching up my makeup when needed! Everyone complimented saying my makeup looked flawless. Absolutely LOVE Ember... I've been going to her since I moved back to Texas in August of 2012. She's exceptionally generous with her time, never makes you feel like she's rushing to her next appointment and always has a smile ready. She's a wonderful person and I'm glad to call her my friend and stylist! My search for a great hairstylist is over now that I have found Ember. She looked at my hair and knew exactly what was wrong with it and she explained to me what needed to be done. She washed, cut and styled my hair and I couldn't be happier. Jessica was wonderful. The shop was cute and chic. It was very clean and professional. It's affordable too. What more could you want from a salon? I could repeat all of the great things reviewers have already said about the shop and Jessica, but what mattered to me was that Jessica listened to what I knew about my hair and what has worked in the past and what hasn't. I appreciated that she understood tricks to make my hair look great and was good about explaining why it worked and how it worked. I've been going to New Image for years now and have no intentions of leaving. This is the type of salon that has excellent work without all the pretentiousness. It's cute and cozy. I been going to New Image since I moved to Austin nearly 5 years ago--I don't think I've ever been with a stylist this long. My stylist is Trish and she's PHENOMENAL! She always takes her time to make sure my hair looks amazing whether she's doing cut, color, highlights, whatever. I've referred several friends to their salon and everyone's had a great experience regardless of their stylist--everyone's super friendly and really great at their jobs. But my favorite thing is the price--they are very affordable! Why spend upwards of $300 at a place like Aveda when you can spend half that (or probably even less) for the same great service? read more

The real draw and true highlight from my New Image Salon experience however, is Ember, the stylist that I was paired with. Wow, she is quite the talented stylist and intuitively knows how to get the best look for you as a client. It's been 5 years since I've had a steady stylist that I trust with my hair and gives me great results. I'm always doing the research and still coming up short. Upon realizing it was time for a cut and deciding I wanted about 5 in off my long, difficult hair I went with New Image. I am beyond pleased with the results. I've been going to Jenny Reese in the nail section of New Image for years. Now that I've moved to another state I still come to her for a spa manicure and pedicure every time I'm in Austin. She is amazing - no other nail tech I've been to anywhere compares with Jenny. She is very professional and her work reflects that. I always used to go to a very high end salon in Westlake and pay $100 for a haircut. Eventually I got sick of the drive and started asking around to see who was good up north. I obviously don't care how much the haircut costs if the person has talent. I had several unrelated people tell me to go see Jessica at New Image. So that's where I went. I was shocked at how good she was for less than half of what I was paying before. In fact, it was a more trendy cut! I am so happy I discovered Jessica at New Image!
