Good Products Cannot Make Up for Terrible Customer Service!…read more
I am extremely disappointed with OKKA Foods Market at 1524 Kings Highway. The products may be good, but good products alone do not make a good business.
I loved Rainbow Shops, which occupied this location for years. Since OKKA opened, however, merchandise has taken up substantial sidewalk space on BOTH sides of this corner property. Between pedestrians trying to pass and people waiting at the nearby bus stops, it creates needless congestion. Public sidewalks should remain accessible to the public.
My most recent experience was the final straw. My mother is hospitalized and asked me to bring her an avocado. I'm not good at selecting ripe produce, so I politely approached an employee wearing the store's uniform. I apologized for bothering him, explained my mother's situation, and asked if he could help me choose a good avocado.
He didn't look up or even acknowledge me. He simply said, "NO."
I was stunned. I wasn't asking for special treatment, just basic assistance selecting a piece of fruit in a FOOD MARKET!
I walked out upset, but I didn't want to arrive at the hospital empty-handed. I asked other workers outside, but neither helped. Instead, a COMPLETE STRANGER, a fellow customer who overheard me, kindly took the time to help me. She showed more consideration than any of the employees I approached, and I am grateful to her.
To give credit where it's due, the avocados were excellent. My mother loved them! But that doesn't change my decision.
You can sell the freshest, most delicious produce in Brooklyn, but customer service, courtesy, and consideration for the neighborhood matter, too. A business earns loyalty through how it treats people, not just what it sells.
You earned a sale that day because I wanted to do something nice for my hospitalized mother. But you lost a customer permanently.
I will NEVER shop here again.
One star. And that's being generous.
