The AC worked extremely well. Had all the amenities (tv, coffee station, microwave, fridge, hair dryer). The inn staff said they were fully booked. I didn't hear my neighbors so that was nice (usually you hear people next door or out in the hallway). My friend was in the other building that only has 2 floors (no elevator). So, if you have trouble going up stairs, make sure to request to stay in the building with 3 floors. Free breakfast and parking! The breakfast was really good (scrambled eggs, hash browns, sausage patties, the bacon was really thin, biscuits & gravy, a fruit & yogurt bar, toast, waffles, fruit, cereal, 4 types of juice, tea, really good coffee.) I overheard another guest say he has stayed at other places & this is the place they always come back to. We tried to use the hot tub but for some reason the water wasn't hot. If you're a AAA member, there's a discount. Yay! I'd definitely stay here again.

Wanting to enjoy the property, we stayed up -- made a fire, used the hot tub, ate some food -- and finally headed to bed way past our usual bedtime. When I moved a pillow to pull back the blankets, I spotted a bug. Assuming it was just a random outdoor bug (since we were in the woods), I snapped a quick photo to ID it online while my boyfriend tossed it outside. To my shock, results came back: bedbug. A second site confirmed it, and when I posted on Reddit, the unanimous responses were: "definitely a bedbug." We hadn't even gotten into bed yet, but our suitcases and clothes had been at the foot of the bed. Knowing this could be serious, we immediately looked online for next steps. We double-bagged everything, cleaned hard surfaces, and checked the mattress. Under the comforter, sheets, and two mattress covers, we found multiple bedbug casings along the mattress corners. Needless to say, we did not sleep. I messaged the hotel right away and at 8am the manager, Scott, arrived. At first, he was very apologetic and kind. He offered to put us in another hotel in town, cover laundry service, and said he was bringing in an exterminator right away. This reassured us -- temporarily. When the exterminator arrived, he looked at our photos and immediately said: "Yep, bedbug." About the casings, his words were: "Definitely a bedbug infestation." He used the word infestation. But after inspecting the cabin with the manager (where they spoke in hushed voices, which felt odd), their tone shifted. Suddenly, the story became: "We don't know if you brought them with you." That is simply not possible -- we never got into bed, and the casings were under multiple layers of bedding and mattress protectors. There's no way we introduced that kind of activity in just a few hours. From there, the offers were downgraded: no outside hotel, no outside laundry service, just another on-site cabin and laundry done there. We thanked them for the offer but didn't feel comfortable staying. This was supposed to be our final night of a two-week family road trip through the PNW, and we had originally planned to drive from Ashland back to the Bay Area after checkout. But since we hadn't slept, we were absolutely exhausted and knew that was no longer an option. As a family, we decided not to risk staying in another cabin (since bedding is likely laundered together). Instead, we scrambled to find alternate lodging. With very limited options in town, we ended up paying way too much for a musty old hotel and had to buy new clothes at Walmart, since ours were bagged up and stored in our car's rooftop cargo bin. The manager promised a refund. Almost three weeks later: nothing. When I followed up, I got excuses about booking through a third party. I only received money back because the booking site stepped in -- not because the hotel did the right thing. To be fair, we liked the cabin at first glance. But then we found the bedbugs. Bedbugs are a serious health and sanitation issue, and the way this was handled made everything worse: initial kindness and accountability, followed by denial, retracted promises, and a refund that only happened through the booking site. Even the exterminator they hired didn't seem particularly professional, which makes me question whether the problem was ever truly resolved. From what I've read, it's not an easy pest to eliminate, and based on what I saw, I'm not confident this was taken seriously. Bottom line: BEDBUGS and poor management response. Avoid this property until there is proof the infestation has been fully and professionally eliminated. Travelers deserve safe, clean accommodations -- and this was the opposite.

For the hotel, the room has a fireplace with logs provided, so smelled strongly like a camp fire - pro or con depending on one's point of view. The in-room jacuzzi style bath was particularly fun and a highlight! The room is well-worn but in a way that feels almost in theme to the rustic mountain lodge. We've been before and will return again.

Do not ever stay at The Bard's Inn in Ashland Oregon. I…read morewould not have taken the time to write a review of the small, dark room and unsavory breakfast, had it not been for another instance involving the owner, Jon Warren. This past April my husband and I were driving from California to Canada and on the way spent one night at The Bard's Inn. In the room's armoire I hung my favorite jacket (nothing else), and forgot it there. Later the next day I called the hotel to let them know I'd left it behind. Front desk staff searched but found nothing. I asked to speak with a manager and at first Jon Warren was pleasant enough. He interviewed his cleaning staff and reported that they found nothing. I asked to make a lost property claim with the hotel's insurance provider. Mr. Warren told me his hotel did not have an insurance provider. I asked how this could be possible - isn't liability coverage required by the state, the city? I requested that Mr. Warren research the hotel's coverage (thinking perhaps that as a manager, not an owner, he might not have the knowledge, but I later learned he's in fact the owner, but didn't identify himself as such). He called me back a few days later and stated that a search was again made for my jacket, but it wasn't found. I was confused. This had already been established. What I'd asked for was the insurer information, so I asked again. At the this point he became downright hostile, insisting that his housekeepers don't steal, etc. To be clear, I never once used the word "stolen". Instead, I said I left my jacket in the armoire, and then it was gone. (The only other places it could've been - in our car or my suitcase - it was not.) At this point the story becomes complicated. I sent a certified letter to "the Proprietor", (still not realizing that the owner was Jon Warren), requesting compensation, or the ability to make a lost property claim. I contacted the City of Ashland, and the Oregon Secretary of State Business Division. Responses came back that there was no record of an insurance provider, nor, perhaps, even a license to operate. How is this possible? This is the second time this year I've left something valuable behind in a hotel. Last year I completed aggressive treatment for cancer, and since then I am very distracted by anxiety, and have trouble concentrating. I mention this because I don't want readers, who might come across my review of a similar issue with Hilton, to think I'm running some kind of racket... (I was able to submit an insurance claim with Hilton.) If Jon Warren had not been so downright rude and hostile, I would not be going to this trouble, particularly since it's not exactly conducive to my health. What possible motivation could I have for making up the case of a missing jacket? The Bard's Inn is independently owned by Warren Resorts, yet it can only be accessed online via Best Western. Meanwhile, Best Western stated to me that it isn't responsible, yet the Warren family conveniently hides behind BW anyway. Stay away from the Bard's Inn. Aside from the fact the hotel is not guest-focused, it may not even be insured or licensed.

The deck outside was a great place to eat lunch, and the starry view from the skylight made it oh so romantic. If you are into earth friendly camping, you will enjoy this place- it has an outdoor shower and composting toliet. We loved these amenities, but some may not. :) Another note is that it can really only accomodate two. Perfect for a couple's getaway. It was just private enough, since it is a bed and breakfast type setting, the owners live in a house far enough away for you to have privacy, and close enough to be able to ask questions. They recommended an awesome hike close by, provided everything we needed to be comfortable, and were easy to communicate with prior to our trip and during. It was amazing and I can't wait to go back! VERY affordable too. Our trip to Ashland wouldn't have been half as cool if we had stayed elsewhere.

It has a huge Willow Tree in front, a pond with ducks, a gazebo with a beautiful garden area and pond with fish, and is just so well done. We watched deer in the morning while we ate our breakfast! Lisa was so nice and took good care of us! Cookies when we arrived, a handwritten note, truffles in our room. Super friendly and helpful when we arrived. Every detail was so wonderful. There is a pool also but it was closed due to the weather being too cold but I'm sure it's amazing in the summer. Parking is good also. The inn is not too far from downtown and they offer a delicious breakfast as well. We had apple cider crème brûlée and sweet potato hash with chicken apple sausage. Good coffee too! We complained about the gas smell and she said don't worry about it. Why is this woman in business! Even though we had rented the whole house for the weekend, she called us at 11am and demanded that we drop everything and move our things out immediately because she wanted to show the house to someone that afternoon and wanted to have her cleaners come in. When we tried to talk with her, she complained and whined while her guests, including a 94 year old gentlemen, moved things to accommodate her. Awful woman and an awful drafty old house.

Deborah Delaunay has done a fantastic job of creating an elegant, functional, and wonderful place to be when wanting to really experience Ashland. All within 2 blocks: the Ashland Food Coop, the Oregon Shakespeare Festival, the Ashland Armory, the creek and the downtown plaza. Its just crazy good!
