We recently stayed there for a family get together. We were told that check-in was at 3:00 pm. Some of us arrived at 3:30. We went to the Big Cabin (Lakeview) and were greeted by the ranch manager. He stated that he is currently living there and would be out in an hour. The rest of our family arrived at 4:30, he was still cleaning his stuff out of the cabin. We waited out in the dark until about 6:00 pm. until we could go in. The cabin stated there were 2 stoves. Only 1 stove was working. There was a lot of things on the kitchen counter, leaving very little room for our things. No dish rags to wash the kitchen dished with. There was not enough bath towels for our group. We rented this space for an event, and unfortunately, the experience was extremely disappointing. Upon arrival, the venue was in unacceptable condition--filthy and not cleaned or prepared as agreed. We had to use our own cleaning supplies, etc. and time to make the space usable. Communication with the management was poor both before and after the event. Despite paying all agreed-upon fees in full before the event, we were later hit with additional surprise charges. When we refused to pay those unjustified costs, they deducted the amount from our security deposit without our consent. We attempted to resolve the issue through multiple emails and disputes, but management was unresponsive and uncooperative. Ultimately, we had to walk away without recovering our deposit. I would not recommend this venue. read more

Staff and property are AMAZING! The venue has been renamed; it's under partially new ownership. It's now called The New Frontier Ranch, and the grandson of the old owner owns it now. His name is Jesse, and he is amazing! We had our wedding here. Ceremony out on the field, reception in the big barn. We started the process last winter, before it changed ownership. Despite some small bumps in the road after new ownership (policy changes after we put down our deposit-some things were no longer allowed or caterers used; but the owner stepped in and made sure the manager knew we could use whomever and whatever was originally agreed upon) we had a great time. There are 3 large cabins on site that hole 10+ people each. Bathrooms are shared amongst all guests, and you do need to BRING YOUR OWN LINENS. They're well stocked with firewood and have a great open kitchen. They also have an amazing view. There are plenty of campgrounds and RV's spots as well. Our guests ended up not using them, but they were pretty awesome still. A few glancing opportunities too- teepee's and bungalows are available. There's a beautiful field they will pull their cattle off on and set up for outside weddings, complete with a stunning view, chair set up, Wagon ride onto the field for the bridal party, and wooden arbor to use. They've got power run out to the field as well for music and a microphone as needed. The big barn is absolutely stunning. It does not need much decoration at all! They have different light setups as well for your selections; including pretty bulbs crisscrossing across the dance floor, lights down the central pillars, and hanging lights along the upstairs banisters. They have chairs and tables to rent, a full kitchen that can be rented, and a bar area for beer and wine. They exceeded all of our expectations. Jesse catered to all of our needs, calmed any and all concerns, and dealt with our irritating DJ too. He went out of his way to make sure we had the best day ever, and partied with our guests towards the end of the night as well. We Cannot recommend This place enough for a wedding. If you like what you see use them! They thought of things and smoothed over small hiccups easily for us all the way to the ceremony and thereafter. We are so grateful for Jesse and his staff. Sooo gorgeous, fantastic paths, gorgeous scenery great cabins and hall area, wonderful campgrounds. Got to watch a pack of elk graze outside my window. Stayed in Aspen cabin, magical experience. The staff and the property = absolutely fabulous!!!! This is a ranch, literally. They raise cattle and sell their beef to stores and restaurants in the area which is really cool if you like (hot cowboys) yummy meat and support local farms and such. The ranch is 30 minutes from town - BE SURE TO FILL UP ON GAS (and any other supplies) BEFORE YOU EXIT THE HIGHWAY or you could get stranded very easily. The roads are very curvey so it takes a long time to drive - it may seem like you are only going 17 miles from Ashland but it will take you every bit of 30 minutes or more to get there. There is no food/gas/beer/anything sold on the property or anywhere nearby. There is no general store. The 2 closest establishments are ONLY restaurants (ma 'n pa type). However at Green Springs you can find beer, ice and a bar of soap but that is about it. They do not sell any other supplies however their food is great and their pies are delicious *side note, if you order a burger - make sure to tell them you want it medium rare or they will char the heck out of it and you will be eating a very dry burger and listen....yes, add bacon, its the best I've ever had. The Large Cabins: There are two rooms with beds on the bottom floor and upstairs of each of the 3 large cabins has room for airbeds - BRING YOUR OWN AND DONT FORGET THE BEDDING. The water pressure in the shower is a small trickle and no soaps or towels are provided. There is a full kitchen available however no utensils or dishware provided The Tent Cabins: 1 queen and 2 single cots are provided on wood floors inside a permanent white tent with bug zipper and fire pits at each one. No bed linens are provided. Bathrooms are a close walk away and are fully equipped with great lighting, electrical outlets for hair dryers and flushing toilets. **THE SHOWER TAKES TOKENS AND MUST BE PURCHASED AT CHECK-IN ***The cabins are NOT close to the barn - expect to drive to/from (walking would be impossible at night time) There is an AMAZING POND!!!!!!! Find it - it will change your life. :) The barn: big, spacious and clean and if you decorate - it makes for a beautiful venue. Tell anyone going here to pack for camping - I was told we were staying in cabins, I had no idea what I was getting into. Bring extra sleeping bags, towels for the pond, flashlights, bug spray and your own food and coffee. I would give this place 0 stars if I could! My family and I stayed here for our yearly trip. However, it was a terrifying and unclean experience for us. We walked into the cabin and realized three of the mattresses had white patches of termite-like or mold-like species! We immediately contacted the host and had a cleaning lady come into observe the place. She acknowledged that those white patches were termites that were chewing on the mattresses. Although she acknowledged it, no further action was initiated by the host to resolve the problem. Our family needed to make sleeping arrangements because of the uncleanliness of the cabin. My parents used to take our Girl Scout troop to the Box R Ranch when I was little. We'd rent a cabin, have a giant sleepover, go for sleigh rides in the snow, and awesome sledding, then wind up next to a roaring fire a few minutes away having hot cocoa. Very special memories for me! I suggested this ranch to a friend as a possible venue for their wedding a few years ago, and they LOVED it. We had a blast, and the event barn/area was a hit. It was the perfect atmosphere for the type of wedding they desired, low-key, western, but elegant. The bride arrived on a stagecoach. That time, their families rented the cabins; we stayed at the near-by Greensprings Resort. Be aware that the cabins are pretty...rustic. They are a fabulous value, however, kitchens are stocked with cooking supplies, wood is stacked conveniently nearby (free), and the beds are clean and comfy. You may have some squeaky little friends in the woodpile, but as long as you're prepared for that little surprise, no biggie! :) I need to take MY kids out there soon.... read more

Our stay at the ranch was wonderful, getting our family together and staying at the venue where we were married was great. However, the unprofessionalism we all received was absolutely appalling. Our family from out of town having to wait for a group of rude young people and their dog living in one of the cabins to move garbage bags of their things out before we could stay there, the nice new marijuana greenhouse in front none of us were made aware of, the filthy dirty kitchen and back cooler full of marijuana oils and sticky residue all over the floor, and the eyesore of a tent full of disgusting pots from processing the marijuana oil right outside the venue we had a wedding at was horrendous. The "ranch manager" Desiree, stomped around in a white dress on someone else's wedding day barging into cabins and barking orders at our wedding coordinator. Their office is a joke, we were asked several times for more money, rules changed several times, they lost our paperwork, we'd drive over an hour to meet at the ranch with no contract because their printer was down. Please do your research when renting a venue. This used to be such a nice facility, until it's changed ownership recently and gone very downhill. However, the silver lining in the whole mess was a woman named Gina whom was extremely kind and did everything she could to help make our stay as great as it was regardless of the poor management. read more

Stayed here in one of the standard bunkalows for the Shakespeare festival. The drive to downtown Ashland can be a long one, especially at night after an 8:30pm show when you're tired and it's dark. But it's a great place to stay to get away from folks without leaving all your modern conveniences behind. There's a great bathroom house with showers, and the bunkalows were the nice compromise between a tent-camping experience and a hotel. Add to it that it's gorgeous there and the folks who run the place couldn't be nicer. Definitely check it out! read more

Very unorganized management. Spent 2 hours touring the venue and visiting with the owner. We were impressed with the facility and very interested in making a booking. When we requested a price list he was unable to provide us with any information regarding the cost of services and had no idea when the venue was available. He would just mention random costs and did not have a written schedule. Although we provided him with our contact information he never bothered to get ahold of us again. We feel fortunate we did not book this venue. It would have been a nightmare working with an owner so dysfunctional. read more
