We love it. There are some super knockout dishes like the lo mein and the fried rice. We also love the wonton soup. A quart is lunch for 3 days! One note--the meat based dishes are going to be more heavy on vegetables. So if you order chicken and broccoli it's going to be considerably more vegetables and the chicken is secondary. We have found this to be the case with all chicken and beef based dishes. Which is also fine because it's delicious but you should just be aware. The service is always super fast (20 minutes means 20 minutes). The location is also very convenient. Walkable since it's downtown but also a lot of parking options if you need to drive. read more

I've been looking for a great Chinese spot for years and finally found it. Ever have that one place you wish you had near your house that you crave their food? Well I finally found it. I got the Chicken and Broccoli, Sesame Chicken, Beef and Broccoli, General Tso Chicken and Fried Pork Dumplings. Everything was excellent. Not too oily, everything tasted fresh. The dumpling sauce is amazing. It's not just a plain sauce. It has a kick too it. Def get two with your dumpling order. Also their egg rolls are amazing!! It's not just stuffed fully with cabbage. The General Tso chicken is very crispy and delicious. I've ordered several times now and love everything we've gotten. The staff is extremely friendly and so is the chef. read more

Haven't eaten here in awhile. Was glad to find that the food is as tasty as ever. I had the General Tso combination plate and my wife had the shrimp with Chinese vegetables. We both enjoyed our meals. One suggestion, don't forget to ask for sauces. We did and I had to eat my egg roll without duck sauce. read more

To me, there are two very defined eras of New China. First, there were the dark ages: a cash only business. This heretical shortcoming forced passersby to mosey on over to the gas station across the street, get surcharged at an ATM, and then return for their Chinese food. Then came the revelation of the credit card machine. It swipes, it takes chips, and pulls virtual money out of the ether (and out of my bank account) to secure the taste of the orient. Cutting out the ATM middle man was One Giant Leap for New China. This establishment has been cemented in Irvington's culinary roster for longer than I can recall and has served us right, time and time again. The food is classic New York-style Chinese food, and may not surprise you out of the box, but you'll revel in the consistency with which they deliver a reliable, delicious dinner. If I had a quarter for how many times I have ordered the sesame chicken from here, I'd have several quarters (enough to buy more sesame chicken for sure). It is simply a bedrock of our village. Though the interior offers no frills and little in the way of environment, it is the perfect location for pick-up-and-go. They even have a picture of a small boy getting hit in the face with a baseball on the wall. He is presumably related to the ownership, and his great shame will live in the memories of customers forever. The next stage in New China's evolution has to be delivery, a cornerstone of Chinese restaurants. Though I live in walking distance from the location, it's still somewhat shocking that there is no delivery option to this day. Compared with Tony's Pizzeria, their next door neighbor, I'm more likely to order pizza on a snowy Sunday for the mere convenience of his delivery offering. It's unclear what defines the name "New China" - as far as I can tell I am not in any form of emancipated China (new or old) in this compact establishment. However, if this restaurant ultimately earns sovereignty and splits into a new country, I will continue to return (as long as they continue to except credit cards with a reasonable exchange rate). read more

Eek!, This food was so bad the beef reminded me of the old Charlie Chapman film where he is chewing on shoe leather. Sadly the rest of the food is not all that much better. Seriously, There was not a single piece of beef in my Szechuan that I could chew and consume. We've tried eating here a number of times with mixed results and have finally hit upon the secret to a successful meal - don't order anything they need to fry in a wok. A few days ago we ordered wonton soup, egg rolls, steamed dumplings, and cold sesame noodles and were very happy with our lunch. In particular, we were pleasantly surprised by the sesame noodles - the riskiest dish - as the noodles were cooked perfectly and the sauce was quite tasty. The place does look like a pit...but the guy who runs it was very nice. There is one table inside but like almost everyone who eats here we got our food 'to go'. Lastly, I don't know when they changed the policy but we had no problem paying with a credit card (our order WAS over $10 order as per their sign). read more

Matthew Castelli Will never return. Ordered two roast pork with veggie lunch specials and received two shrimp dishes. Called back and spoke to a woman and explained the issue. I asked THREE TIMES if they would like me to return the wrong order. Never received a yes or no. I returned to get my correct order which was not made and would not be made until I returned incorrect food. Now had to make two trips to my home and back for TWO mistakes that NEW CHINA made. They check food and THROW IT AWAY! I asked, "after all that you just throw it away?" My brother owns an Italian restaurant and would OF COURSE ask to see incorrect order, but would then tell customers keep the wrong order AND what you wanted as sign of good faith. Lady at New China gives me ONE free soda can and tells me to take FREE sauces. You clearly do not know what good customer service is. New China just lost a customer. Two mistakes by restaurant...customer inconvenienced twice...no truthful way to make it better. read more

Horrible service when I called they were rude and would charge me extra just because I couldn't eat pork for religious reasons

I would like to say that me and my girlfriend order from here all the time and it has always been good. Generally we order the chicken lo main, house special curry chicken and boneless spare rib combo. The prices are a bit higher then other local spots but it is Irvington so it really isnt a issue. They sometimes put onions in my girlfriends fried rice even after we ask them not to but all in all it by far better then any spot in the area ive been able to find so far. The restaurant appearance does not truly portray how good the food is !! I am pleasantly surprised by the quality of the food at this Chinese food restaurant. I had the Pad Thai, skewers and mango shrimp !! Those dishes were delicious !!! Tasted authentic and I would definitely come back for more. Used to come here quite a bit in high school for lunch when we were allowed to leave campus for lunch. You can't go wrong with the General Tso's chicken lunch special which is what I always got and is a great value. You are always better off going with take-out since the restaurant is so tiny with only one table, but I enjoy the food there. read more
